    The wheel turning backwards is quite normal when the prop is locked
    ( in your case with a seized engine )
    In this circumstance if 1 wheel goes forward the other 1 has to go backwards.
    This can happen on land rovers on certain circumstances like when jacking up etc as the handbrake is on the prop shaft.
    Hope that was of some help to somebody.
    Looks like a good shell rear arches , tire well and general panels look bloody good be interesting to see it on the ramp

      My friend had a d reg Sierra 1.6L with the bigger lights which were long range driving lights. The base version retained the smaller front lights with the slatted grill until the end. It was only the L & GL that got this upgrade. There was an LX release after the upgrade. There were 3 faces of the mk1 Sierra in Europe but in Latin American version which had the single headlight and slatted grill but had the indicator front fog light combo of the ghia

    Had RED 1.6L in 2006 my dad built up the engine, brakes would let go at times and needed to pump pedal. It would stall at low speeds or slowing down due to vacuum leaks, so pretty much had to use all 3 pedals to slow down and handbrake too just in case I had to pump the breaks. At work the road was very steep, car 1.6 was so underpowered it killed 1st gear. Ended up using 2nd to set off from Stationary, along with all vacuum leaks and brake pumping. At work 2nd Gear wouldn't cut it on the steep road with 4x passengers so always reversed it up hill 200 yds, with people cracking up everyday seeing this madness. Eventually 2nd gear was on its way out, burnt the clutch after using 3rd gear all the time. Never let me down until it told me (smelled clutch and let go) that its time to say goodbye and rolled up on to street parking called scrap man to take it. What an adventure.

    • @joebryant5722
      @joebryant5722 4 месяца назад

      Funny you mentioning the 1.6, we had a red one as well. Lovely and big/comfy but it was so obvious that the car was too heavy for just a 1.6 petrol. Why oh why did't they just have the 1.8 diesel? and then all petrols at 2L+. It also made them very, very thirsty. As you say, imense amount of gear work involved to compensate.

    • @Narendra--Modi
      @Narendra--Modi 4 месяца назад

      @joebryant5722 I passed my test in 94 driving a Cortina Mk3 and that was a 1.3, looks like it was a trend of underpowered engines that carried on to Sierra.

Trust me, works alot better than just having to drag it. it will put alot greater pressure on the system and dont forget to drown the pistons with WD . and dont forget, while in gear....clutch in clutch out, clutch in clutch out. @@JohnSmith-rw8uh I know the Windsor is a small block v8 but it's not an engine easily accessible in the UK . Our gift from Chevrolet here came in the form of Rover's infamous V8 which is right on the size and weight limit for many older British home market cars. i've seen a Granada stablemate to the Sierra with a Rover V8 engine installed but not a Sierra. That doesn't mean there isn't one in existence but its a person's own imagination that is the limiting factor. Rover V8s are harder than ever to find now dead or alive but basically this is because they've been out of production for at least 30 years and we're the coveted choice of engine for custom and hot rod builds in England. They've been tuned raced restored and classified to rarity and big money price tags are the norm for a complete engine.

    Rather than oil or wd40, next time you are working on a seized engine, try pouring evapo-rust down the bores. I've seen it get through the threads of a bolt better than penetrating oil, and since it gets rid of the rust without eating the metal, it should free up the rings without any manual effort.

  • @BrendanPerring

    Hello lads. Such a shame water got in the head, that engine is finished. The block might be reusable, but everything else will be rusted solid. Are you going to try score a direct replacement or go big with something like an Essex V6? Good on you all for rescuing it and putting in the graft.

      I agree water ingress has defo rusted/welded the rings to the bores and will need rebore+new pistons + rings as well as a crank re-grind and shells at minimum and that is just bottom end, if the engine number matches the car docs/chassis number then I would look at geting a full engine rebuild (not a job for novice) if not try and find another motor as the body seems to be in a good state, well done for getting her out although there was a couple of times I was thinking NOOOO dont do that 🤣 🤣
      uk towing tips : towing in gear with a seized block can and probably will bend/snap the con rods and/or crank so try not to do that.
      hazzard lights on a moving vehicle are a magnet for the blue light cash extractors😁 they are for stationary only not when being towed 😉

    then it will rock back and forth in 30years only one engine has beat me...

    It has the dreaded VV-carburetor. There's a large rubber below inside that carb that must be in order to get the engine to run.
    These engines are very sturdy. Shouldn't be to hard to get it running.

    You can buy still from Ford a crated Lima engine, the Lima is the American made version of the Ford UK Pinto. Of course the MK1 Sierra's were really good to build into, taking any Essex or Cologne V6 in its hole, you can even buy from South Africa a set of engine mounts and shove a Windsor or other big beastie V8. South African police had Sierra's with Essex 3.0 engines in which under Ford "rules" would make that a Savage, facelift brough the 2.9 Cologne with the best of the SAP's Sierra's being 2.9i 4x4 estates with full Connolly leather interiors in the same period when London old bill were getting rusty Metro's, the South African police specials like the Cortina 3.0, the various Sierra's are awesome.
