These were absolutely everywhere in the mid-late '80s. Just part of the UK street furniture, along with Mk2 Cavaliers, Mk3 Escorts, Montegos, Astras and Maestros.
People were even judged on what trim-level their car was !
My dad had a 2.0 GL Sierra, so just escaped being branded a pauper. Not that he would have cared.
and now they’re thin on the ground, who knew ay!
@@Joshwaa___
Yes, odd that Austin 1100s and Rover P6s still seem to be plentiful to buy but std Sierras, Montegos Maestros etc just gone.
@@lewis72Stolen, written off, rusted away or scrapped. Rovers and Austins were owned by shall we say 'steadier' people.
@@idiotdetectioninprogress
Many Sierras were rep cars, so they were used and abused for 3-5 years then sold as cheap transport, with few bothering to invest in their maintenance.
Just a beautiful machine so many memory’s of these sierras ripping around the British streets an icon.
I agree to that 😊
So good to see a mk1 Sierra getting resurrected , I own a mk1 2.0 Ghia Sierra that was stuck in a lock up garage for 28 years , it took me from February 2022 until August 2022 to get it running and on the road , keep up the good work , these are great cars .
I think you can actually see the Sierra smile 😁. Looks fantastic 😍
I really enjoy restoration videos of normal average cars that are "throw away" cars. Great to see them being saved!
me too! i only post what id watch my self!
Those wheel trims its like going back in time to a much better time my guy 😮💯
😎
Now all it needs is a running heart. This kinda content is just what I like. 60 quid well spent, I prolly would've looked out for a oem ford alloy that needed a bit of tlc. But gotta say, the hubcaps suits it as is. You can get lost on these old cars. At the end of the day it's a 4-door sedan family car & to get it like motd etc .... Wouldnt waste any money on it. When it runs pass it on to someone who has a nostalgic heart for these models ... Nevertheless, great job in -1 degrees, freezin ya hands brrr. Its al for the algorythm & views ey ;) People have seen enough of fancy cars on youtube ... Gimme a beater, junker, shitbox, high milage etc
My old man used to have the exact same car but 2.3 diesel with light grey interior. So many memories ... keep the good work, these cars deserve to be saved!
Keeping it up!
Tou could make a whole series on this car and your chanel will blow up.
i’m planning on making more :)
Hell yeh 🎉
it’s comin!
new viewer, really enjoying this series, would be good just to see you get this on the road for the bare minimum. dont worry about the dents, i really like to see real world classic cars, just being used like they would have been. full restore to factory does not do it for me (you would never want to drive it). sorts the little rust bits out, and touch up (try to keep org paint). well done, stand back and admire your work!!
That’s literally exactly what i’ll be doing! getting the important bits done, second hand standard engine, get the thing running and driving and pretty much leave the outside alone!
Sweet work Josh - another yesteryear good old barge lives another day - and she is so definitely worth saving- can’t fault you mate
💪👏👍👍👍
Thank you!
Looks great, pretty sure the door mirrors are off a later model year though, a friend of mine, god rest his soul, had a Y reg one and the mirrors were different, minor point I know, strange how I remember that.
You’re right, this particular car is an 84 model year and actually the wheels trims are from the earlier model year. Feel like a party pooper saying that as they were £60!!
Looks well josh ideal candidate for a focus st170 engine sleeper they do fit no problem 👍
Standard for this gem!
Cleaned up awesome great video can’t wait to see it running again
I had a brand new Sierra that colour in August 1983. A823 HRN. 1.6 Pinto engine. Very interesting video.
Looks fabulous. Being a 1.6L, these wouldn't have been cared for anywhere near as much as the Cosworth, XR4i or XR4x4, so probably rarer that those now !
you could be right!!
Really nice example, love the colour and amazing how well it turned out with some much needed tlc. Good job! Really nostalgic for me, as I passed my test in one of these (Y plate 1.6 GL) back in 1991 when I was 17. The Sierra still has an aesthetically pleasing shape IMO. A bit dated now but still a handsome car.
Brand and new
Thanks Josh Well done mate for all the hard work looks million $ just Fantastic love the Sierra
Glad you like it
Brings a tear to my eye to see how well youve done on this motor. very well done an look forward to the follow up nice one
crack on
Thanks!!! stay tuned!
Toatly awesome video love seeing old cars look like new agen with just a good clean wen it's got engine back in n running it'll make a beautiful classic 👌 grate job lad keep up the grate work
From dan at
Notts modified car channel
It’ll be fantastic! cant wait!
@@Joshwaa___ grate work
Looks better than I thought it would!!
My Dad had a couple of these in the 80s as company cars. I always liked them, but they did rust for fun and he had the lacquer fail on the bonnet of one.
Great work can’t wait to c it running again
Came out looking great for a shed find josh and those cleaning chemicals seem to be good nice fresh engine to get in and it'll be a dream car again ...because you got the comfier looking seats I think sq used hole in the dash be where the storage and fuel computer would have been quite easy to find in a scrapyard and should have a plug down the back of the hole for it ....👍good channel ...
Thanks for the comment! i have sourced a cubby hole for the dash :)
No fuel computers back then lol, analogue clock and cubby hole is what goes there :)
Yessssssssssssssss
Superb. Those wheel trims are legit L spec & are worth every penny to keep it authentic. Can't wait to see u drive it down the A14.
Proper stuff! i can’t wait either!
Brings back so many childhood memories, seeing this car, my grandfather had this exact model sierra and the same color and my uncle had the sierra ghia 2.3 v6. thank you great work you are doing.
Reminds me of my B reg 1.6L that came in Ocean Blue. Ex John West company car.
Fantastic cars! I've had two sierras, my dad had a Sierra, my uncle had a Sierra and my step dad 3 sierras. I would love another one. The body has faired so well for being stood so long.
Massive respect for washing a car in -1 . Worth buying the trims, you are increasing the value all the time. And it looks good
Thanks 👍
I’m very impressed with how it turned out
Brilliant 🤩
Just need to repair/repaint the bonnet, wing and scuttle panel and probably the sill panel
Brilliant going mate 🤜🤜
wow such a nice paint colour underneath all that crud nice and clean again ❤
i had a 83 1.6L HBM249Y pierberg twin choke, for a 1.6 pinto it was a flying machine, the head gasket went on me and i had good sense to flush and check all cooling system pipes and where the small pipe from the water pump went into the header tank the steel pipe was blocked which wouldnt let the bleed system work, looking forward to seeing it running again.
Washing tip: always jetwash first. Then citrus. Then jetwash again. After that you could shampoo but id go foam canon... car detailing is therapeutic to me though... 😂
Awesome job mate! Literally washed life back into it. Defo leave it totally standard with its battle scars. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the engine going back in
Id love to see it left as it is, looks perfect, with Cosworth running gear in it.
Interesting vid. A tip ,use liquid wrench in the cylinders, that stuff loosens better than WD 40 it only displaces water. The good stuff actually eats the rust. Cheers man
Thanks for the info!
Love the sierra. My dad had the same one just red. Seeing the interior and remembering all the memories....
Recently bought my self a mk3 sapphire 2.0i clx 1993.
Mint condition but problems with misfire and lack of power.
They say 88kw N9C is a good engine but not in my books. Pintos are much more reliable i think.
Great job mate so nice to old motors like this getting a new life
This thing is such a survivor... normally they've completely dissolved. The condition of this is pretty amazing.
The car is looking nice now. Can’t wait to see it on the road.
Looks amazing good work deserves to go back on the road original as possible.
Loving the Sierra video's!!
Even got the 'Aidan Templin music pack' for the car cleaning video! A+!
Great video josh, weldone.I understand that you have to concentrate on your bread and butter vehicles first, but looking forward to next video of fitting new engine in the sierra🙏🙏🍺🍺🍺
working on it! coming soon!
Turned out pretty well, I had a 1984 sierra 2.0 GL when it was 7 years old, and there was rust starting to show even then!
Cannot believe that your car will be 40 years old next April, will then be tax & MOT exempt 😁
That is a stunning job mate and the car is gorgeous
Great isn’t it!
Keep on with this car and if you need to spend on it do it man, this car is iconic and you will make your money back do it right and don't stress you will have buyers cueing up for this beautiful car
You have done a cracking job. She looks stunning!
She is Smiling !!!!!! 🙂 yay. Please please look after her :-) !!!! She is so mint
Great job and full days work you put into it Josh. She deserved it and now looks like she should. Well done 😄 Love your Channel.
Thanks so much!!
I would drive and show that car almost as is , good job , awsome transformation i love the car and i love tye colour
Looks great, what a difference. Defo going to be following you to see how far you go with it but so far very good progress 👌
Nice to see Sierra looking good after wash
Cleaned up very well great work Josh 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
There should be a quartz clock and cobe hole shelf. Where you have a hole in 1.6 L Ford Sierra dashboard!
Need to source myself one!
Fantastic turnaround
Amazing job buddy ! V10 going in 😜😜
Car looks fantastic. What a great effort. Only recently discovered your channel. I'm slowly going back though it. Marc from 🇦🇺 Australia
👌👌
Also love the skyline behind you..
new episode out on it tomorrow:)
Amazing happy looking Sierra now.. Great work done👍 Someone that watch ur Channel that works with polishing and cleans inside cars should do a propper one for the content! Well done mate💯👊
Awesome thank you!
Good Evening Josh. You should be very Proud of Yourself and your Friends, Rescueing this very rare Example of a Ford Sierra 1.6 L A reg. What you have done for this vehicle, she really Deserved and needed the TLC, to bring her back looking Amasing like she does. I really Enjoyed seeing your Detailing and Cleaning her Inside and out. You are really Good. Do not worry, You are doing so Well on your own. A Brandnew 1.6 L Engine with a 5 speed manual Gear box would be Good. New Brakes and Tyres. Brand new Exhaust System to give her some Excellent sound and Kerb appeal. She needs a Brand new In car Entertainment System and some Good quality speakers, Pioneer 250W per speaker and a Good Power Amp in the boot to give it some Awesome Kick. How does that sound Josh?
Thanks again Jonathan! it’s come out great hasn’t it! can’t wait to get it running good and back to how it should be after all these years!
Well Done Josh. You will be able to get this rare vehicle back onto the road. Then you can enjoy driving this Gorgeous vehicle. 😃😃😃👍👍👍@@Joshwaa___
Mate I would do the ignition and wet vac the seats get it running and put it in a classic auction you will get big money I reacon
Best car ya have there, get her up and running
I’m working on it :)
That's an impressive coverage from your "lance"! Lol. I feel like you need to invest in some none slip boots mate.
If it was mine. I'd leave the looks, but! But put a 2litre zetec on bike carbs, lowered slightly with a few suspension and break upgrades
This video has brought me here, I've subscribed, I've had 4 Sierra's! Nice to watch a car channel that isn't sponsored by Carvertical! Looking forward to future content 👍
haha it does seem everyone seems to be sponsored by them, they must pay them the big bucks 🤣 i have never checked a car before buying it in my life haha
@@Joshwaa___ Same 😂
We used to just use an old fire extinguisher as a foam gun, fill it with soapy water and put a schrader valve in it and just pressurise it slightly.
This looks beautiful! Its transformed wonderfully over this video. You've done a great job with this Sierra, seeing the FB post is what led me to your channel. The ONLY thing that I want to ask is HOW is this considered Green? Honestly asking, even after all the cleaning, waxing and buffing that's Sky Blue to me.
i meant the other way round 😂 noticed when i was editing hahah its defo blue!
wheel trims probably added another sixty quid on to its value..👍
I had one identical to that in 1997, Y reg Crystal green 1.6L 5 speed. I ran it for 6 months and drove it to the scrapyard when the MOT ran out. It was rot free being a German built car but the lacquer was knackered and it was just a worthless old nail.
would be worth a few pennies now!
I need a tissue 💦
it’s coming!
Can't wait for this one 😊
I reckon the design looks better now than when this model first came out.
Oh absolutely! better with age!
Coming along nicely mate
thanks!
It's so basic, love it.
This is gonna be a classic gresswells video when we look back from the f40
hahaha here’s hoping!!
That would be so satisfying.
Love the Mk1 sierra so glad your fixing it up do you think you rebuild the original engine in the future to keep it original?. Still looking forward to the first start with the new engine
It’ll be a good day!
Can’t wait for the video where you put a new engine in that car🙏🙏🙏
Was sat thinking the suspension seems high on the front then I remembered there no engine in it haha
At last !
Well done!
had to be!
Should put a 4 cylinder beams engine out of an altezza into it but leave the outside standard
Highly recommend vax spotwash for the seats and carpet
the hole in the dash was clock, and little coins or put items in.
The dent on the bonnet is about where the dudes wife's would've been laying when they were....well you know 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is looking great I'd say paint it a nice pearlescent colour new wheels and tyres obvs. Shampoo and clean up the interior. I think the inside of the dash you can have double din head unit.
She looks well happy sitting in the sun all clean
josh u can dress up the other 2 trims, by rubbing down and a light skim of filler, wheel spray and they will look as good as new
Can hardly notice when you’re 2 steps back! i’ll leave them !
I had the same colour 1985 1.6L Sierra - it's Jade Green. Mine was a lovely car and convinced me to buy the same again 2 years later, but this time a 2.0GL, which proved to be a heap of cr**.
Throw a new clutch in it!!! It looks like this could be on the road sooner than you think!
It is a nice car! Get it sorted and I'll swap you my Fiat Panda. Lovely colour. You got really lucky with this. I want it!!!
That big hole was two cabby holes. It was just a gap for a bit of storage. But you could put a nice Android system in that and give it A modern touch.
All that Sierra needs is a set of nice alloys and it'd transform it, even a set of BBS would do. Wheels can make or break a car.
Would be nice! back to standard for this one!
Looks well my dad had a 2.0 gl same year….. lots of memories
Take the back seat out look for that big old nest.
Josh i wish i could work on my own .
Airride, 15 inch steel wheels with moondisks....
Car looks great! Looking forward to the engine refit.
