  • Hey everyone!
Perfect games are one of the most rare feats in sports. Every pitcher's dream is to throw one. However, there are a few pitchers who essentially did throw one, but they are considered "unofficial" perfect games for one reason or another. So, I hope you guys enjoy the video! And thank you to everyone who has subscribed from my recent video with SRS and from my Craig Kimbrel video.

In the Harvey Haddix game, Joe Adcock hit a three run homer to win the game for the braves BUT the runner on first walked off the field when the winning run scored from third. So Adcock passed the runner on first going to third base and was out for doing so. Thus his 3-run homer was only a 1-run double.

The chart of historical MLB feats shows 2 Home runs in same inning by the same player has been done 54 time. But it should have showed the probability of one player hitting two grand slams in the same inning off the same pitcher. Done once by Fernando Tatis Sr. This historical feat will never ever be done again. That feat would be interesting for a video 😁

It's rare to see a perfect game or no-hitter that have gone into extra innings. It's only been done 14 times. But thoughout the Pirates' franchise history, they've been involved in four. The first being in 1906, the next being Harvey Haddix's game vs the Braves, the third being one tossed by Francisco Corvoa, and the last being in 2017 with Rich Hill.
Hill's, to me is the most interesting game in recent baseball history. He was pitching a perfect game through 8, and a no hitter though 9. The Dodgers had four guys with ERA's under 3 in their bullpen, and instead of pulling Hill out of the game for the 10th inning, the Dodgers decided to let him go. With the way most starting pitchers are used today, and how often teams go with deep bullpens, it's probably the last time we'll ever see a guy start the game, and still be pitching as they go into extra innings. It was a perfect storm for Hill because he was under 100 pitches going into the 10th.

    • @SportStorm23

There should be a new designation for these things, like “perfect 9” or “no-hit 9” to indicae when a pitcher goes the full 9 allowing no hits. This seems to be even rarer than an actual no-hitter though, so maybe it’s not worth the trouble. I’d hate to see these accomplishments lost to time simply because we didn’t have a name for them so they could be easily tracked.

  • @jpsned

The tricky thing about asking if a pitcher retired more than 27 batters, even in relief, would it be considered a perfect game is that the word 'game' I think screws things up. If by definition a perfect outing meant retiring 27 batters, then it would be possible for a relief pitcher to do so.. or for a starter to throw a perfect outing even if the game went into extras. Because its a perfect game it really seems like the game should be over after 27 outs..or if it goes into extras then a team who retired every batter should win.

Usually the best pitchers don't get a perfect game going. They challenge hitters too often, because they believe they win every time. I could see Gerrit Cole throwing a couple of no.hitters in his career, but I don't think he would ever be cautious enough to throw a perfect game. He is (in my opinion) clearly the best pitcher in the game today and I enjoy watching every pitch he throws. When he is painting corners at 99, with some backdoor action...UNHITTABLE

A no-hitter has a chance to happen twice per game, once for each pitcher. A 4hr game has a chance to happen 18 times a game, one for each batter. The 163 times rarer takes into account the frequency each of these could happen.
