I’m from Metro Detroit. Used to go there 99-00 every weekend before I turned 21 with my friends. Jokers, Dante’s, Windsor Music Cafe, Reactor. But my best memories of Windsor are going to the old Windsor Arena to watch the Spitfires play. Man that place was insane!
My wife died 3 weeks ago. Our love started in windsor. Seeing all the places where we would meet after school. Downtown was awesome "fast eddies" man i wish there was a time machine so we could go back and fall in love again, i'd hold her little tighter and kiss her little longer. Thanks windsor for giving me my true love. We moved to los Angeles later on in life but I'll tell you, nothing beats windsor in the 80's and 90's.
Sorry for your loss!!
I'm sorry for your loss. May god bless you both❤️
Sorry for your loss
I'm sorry for your loss, Windsor is a wonderful city and lots of great memories live there.
I'm very sorry for your loss I can't imagine loosening somebody you love like that.
Sorry and you're welcome for sending all of our 19 year old's over to celebrate our "21st" birthdays...especially back when the exchange rate was 2 to 1 in the dollars favor.
Love,
From Detroit

It changed so much.
I remember those buses, very cool to see this retro video. And I also noticed Ferry st. had a rail track for a streetcar.
Al capone had links here during prohibition .
Most if not all Capone got his booze from Canada. Most enterprising Canadians living at or near a border crossing had "rum runs" Even low wage border guards were in on it. Prohibition was so unpopular "rum runs" were everywhere.

I get where you are.
I cannot fathom why.
As a person currently experiencing their childhood in Windsor, this is a weird video to see
I was born in windsor and still live here. I experienced my entire childhood here most of it was on west side along the projects on curry avenue.
Who is the guy presenting?
Who is here after watching Peter Santenello Detroit?
I have lived in Windsor for most of my life, and yet, it has never felt like home to me. To say that I hate it here would be a huge understatement. I think I would rather live just about anywhere but here. The only good thing about Windsor in my opinion, is its close proximity to the US border. I used to love shopping and dining over there. But unfortunately, due to Covid, we are basically locked down. Canada is no longer a free country, but I don't want to get into all that here.
Must be something good keeping you here.
5000% agree with you
This was a sad read. Sometimes it’s not our location as much as it’s ourselves. Hopefully you can find some inner happiness.
I have found people either hate it or love it. In my experience, most people loved it. I was born here more thaan 70 years ago - left for 40 years plus but came back in retirement. It's home!
I too hate it moved away and don't regret it for a second.

Due to Liberal policies and municipal mismanagement the city is unfortunately a shell of what it was in this video.

Born and raised in windsor and it has its pluses and minuses . The 80s and 90s were a much better time in the city, not much left here now especally for young people , jobs , fun , housing all have major issues currently for young people looking to make a life .as far as a retirement community goes, its tip top here for old people.
It’s the opposite across the river. The 80’s 90’s and especially the 00’s were really blightful in Detroit. Recently, many younger people are moving downtown and the city is regaining life and is gentrifying old neighborhoods for cheaper housing. The outskirts are still extremely dangerous though
@@trowwzers5057 for sure I was scared of Detroit in the 90s , we used to go over time to time for shows or events, but exactly now it's way differnt down town especally. Got family in the states so we visit time to time as well .

I worked in this town for a year. No offense it was quite glum.
Thats the Windsor I remember ad grew up in before I moved away after college... sadly it is quite a sad place now
wow, such memories, miss those days back in 1989. Could move across the border freely. Now its like a fortress ever since 9/11 . Use to cross with goods and they didn't care. Now you practically go through a security check for every single thing. Sad how the times changed how close we use to be with our southern neighbours.
The Canadian customs or the America custom which one?
Liberals filled this town with blight and homelessness. The robotic thinking of local NDP voter's just prop up the madness year after year.

Too bad life in Windsor has changed and a lot of it and not so good thanks to some of the stuff that the mayor and councils of past have really messed this city up the cutbacks and services etc and the passing off of responsibility from the city to homeowners like cleaning the alleys and making sure that they're clear which homeowners do not have the ability to keep allies clear in the winter time as well as cutbacks in the garbage services and other things Eddie Francis Drew dilkins they helped flush the city into a abyss of problems

What a interesting video it's great 🙂
I work at an antique store in Windsor and I always have older people telling me how nice the city used to be. Unfortunately I'm not old enough to have seen it personally, but I love seeing these old videos or hearing stories of the city back then. This was really cool to watch :)
pray to Jesus that trampled death by death and He defeated satan by resurrection, nothing can be stronger and more powerful than this.
@@lauragreen8468 Uhh.. Alright Laura. No idea what you’re on about but I hope you had a happy Easter? 😬
I'm an antique, born in Windsor in the early 50s. It was a nice small city, having distinct neighbourhoods: Downtown, Erie Street, Ottawa Street, Walkerville, Drouillard Road, to name a few. The decline started when the automotive industry tanked in the 70s. Being a one horse town, the impact hit nearly all businesses: parts manufacturers, retail and service. Over the next 20 years, the slow decline became evident in stores closing in the downtown core and nothing moving into the empty spaces, at least nothing permanent. Some genius made city council approved a casino that would revitalize the downtown core. I guess they never were at a casino! Gamblers get off the bus, sit themselves down, get served 'in place', go back to their rooms (maybe), return to the floor, go back to their room to collect their luggage and get back on the bus. Going out into the city would reduce their gambling time. I left in 1999 when the company for which I worked transferred me elsewhere.
I miss the good old days of the 50s and 60s.
Thank you for your interest and Mike for posting these videos. 😊
I moved to Windsor when this video was produced. Strange nostalgia seeing the skyline without the casino. An odd sadness thinking that these narrators are now dead.
Probably dead... maybe just really old
I had the same sadness when thinking these narrators probably passed away. I was born in 1989 and that's when this video was made.
pray to Jesus that trampled death by death and He defeated satan by resurrection, nothing can be stronger and more powerful than this.
Was this done in the 80s? --Just saw the closing credits, 1989, I was 16 years old walking those streets.
Me too! :)
Lived in Windsor for nearly 17 years during the 90’s and early 2000’s. I hated it at the time and couldn’t wait to leave. I’m in Alberta and I miss the warmth of the long summers and flowers that were able to grow. I miss the lakes of Ontario the most. A lot more to do there than where I live now. Thinking of moving back to Ontario again.
Things have changed, sorry to tell you. House prices have sky rocketed, homelessness has Increased to a massive scale and jobs are no where to be found. The city itself is now really only known for being the bridge between US and Canada, Windsor isn't even considered part of Canada in the minds of the residents.
And you miss the pizza ....everyone does . Galati cheese
Born and raised wouldn't live any where else
So this is just on everyone's recommended page that's from Windsor, wassup y'all

How old is this documentary?
35 years old now 9f 2024
The Detroit river is 800 meters wide at it's narrowest point.
Windsor has changed a lot in demographics since this video was made. The narrator would hardly recognize it any more. People are still nice here. It's just different.
I saw another video it was dead downtown but it's a retirement town so what can I say.
Full of Arabs now.
You're racist to talk now of anything

I have lived in Kitchener for most of my life, but from 2017-2020 I lived in Windsor while doing my MSc at the university. I miss it, mainly for the good times I had. But I also miss the smell when walking near the river. My apartment was on Riverside Drive so I always got that smell coming through my windows on a nice crisp day :). I now live in Sault Ste. Marie, so quite the contrast haha.
