So cool! My great-grandparents came up to the Bruce in 1852 and made a homestead near Arkwright. I lived in Port Elgin for 30 years and still visit at least once a week.

My mother grew up in Port Elgin and returned when she retired. I spent many a summer enjoying its many charms & gifts at our cottage there. My son & his family have continued the saga.
Thank you for posting this video.

Had a cottage here in the 80s and early 90s. Some of the best times. Best beach in ontario. Wish the mini train that ran from the main beach and up towards north shore road was still there

As much as our town has changed, this video is a good reminder of how much of it is still the same.

Enjoyed watching this and was happy to got to visit there more than once. Dad was born and raised there before heading west to teach school.

Great video. Blast from the past. The old church at Chippewa was beautiful. Sadly it was burnt down.

Three churches were burned down that night, if memory serves me correct.

I live in the area. Its very different but you can see some of the exact same buildings downtown...I came here 1st in 1998 w my Dad so its been really neat to see some remaining landmarks💛

      Thanks for your knowledge Pam.
I think the township commission for architecture may have something to do with preserving the core image.
      Cheers.

cute and interesting but imo lacks some early historical trivia ( except for that bit at 4:00 and then that bit at 9:00 about John Spence ) .. like the 1840's when the Saugeen ( Chiefs ) were selling this area to the British while the native were struggling with the Manitoulin Island treaties and then the early pioneers like Proudfoot and others who brought with them the bank interests which led to the railroaders connecting it all to the Hanover and Guelph and Toronto area... 21:00 ... time will tell if the European invasion will have been an act of refinement by some who sell themselves as civilized while working every angle to control and manipulate nature and this bountiful earth...
