  • Hello friends! I wanted to share this tutorial with you for how to make a dried orange garland. It's super easy, and you only need two things to make it!
    Supplies:
    Oranges
    Cord of your choice (I prefer waxed cord for garlands because the cord doesn't fray, and the oranges don't slip around)
    amzn.to/3d9ScqJ
    I've already made three of these garlands, and I love the pop of orange they are adding to my autumn decor! I hope you will give this tutorial a shot - if you do I would love to see your finished creation! Tag me on instagram at @madebyhandbyallison

    Thank you for this. I followed a pin from a very well-known & usually very reliable source that instructed the slices to be one quarter inch thick with oven setting at 250° for 3 hours on cookie sheets lined with parchment. 3 hours later the slices still were not dry & the rinds were browning & separating from the pith! So thank you, thank you, thank you, for sharing this! I can now reenter my kitchen with confidence & make the beautiful garland for my tree I've wanted all along! Merry Christmas!

      try using like a spatula or something to hold your oven door open a crack. Sometimes the lowest setting still isn't low enough, they're not really designed to dehydrate. Remember to flip every 30-60 minutes, I also move them around on my tray (my oven doesn't cook very evenly, so ill switch the slices from the center of the tray to the outer side)

    Does this last year after year or does it need to be somehow preserved?

    • @fernwitchofthedarkcastle
      @fernwitchofthedarkcastle 3 года назад +9

      Keep them in a cool and dry location and they can last up to a couple of years! They go pale and brittle when they’re beginning to get too old.

    I want to try and make these for our Christmas tree. I’ve heard cats don’t like oranges and it’s one way to keep them out of the tree, so my question is does it lose it’s orange scent once dried? Thanks.

    • @madebyhandbyallison
      @madebyhandbyallison  3 года назад +3

      I’m afraid it does lose its smell - I suppose you could put a few drops of orange essential oil on each slice, or other ornaments you have!

      As long as you don’t eat them they should last indefinitely I believe! But they can be eaten up to two years after drying if done correctly
