Thank you so much for taking the time to experiment with different methods! I wanted to try making these this year, but there are many recipes to choose from. This was the first video I've seen that suggested using a bread knife and blotting the oranges before baking. Genius. Thanks again! 😁
Very informative video. I appreciated the comparison of different drying methods. Going to include Oranges into Christmas Swags & Wreaths 2024 season . Thank you for sharing knowledge.
Great tutorial! Making today using the parchment paper directly on the oven rack. Granddaughters and I will be making yule ornaments. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for creating this video with a different ways of making me dried oranges! I am completely new to this, and I just came across your page when I looked up how to dry out oranges for simmer pots, and I am so thankful that yours came across because I would've done it the drying rack way inside of the oven, not knowing about the parchment paper idea! Thank you so much again! Happy new year
None at all! It worked beautifully. Dabbing the slices with paper towels before placing them in the oven makes a huge difference as far as any juices that release during baking.
Thank you so much! I baked them at 200 degrees F. I have full written instructions on my blog that are easy to follow: bloomintheblack.com/dried-oranges/
You know, I've never really tried pricing it out! I just took a quick look on Etsy and it's definitely cheaper to make your own but that said, it's not a high ticket item. I'd probably weigh the effort you want to put in against the cost vs. cost alone. I'd estimate it was about 30% cheaper to make my own before shipping costs.
I did 200 degrees F for around 4 hours -- it all depends on the thickness of your slices! I have a blog post with detailed instructions if you want to check it out: bloomintheblack.com/dried-oranges/
I put the oranges on parchment paper. I'm not sure what butter paper is but if that has a wax coating, don't use it! The time varies based on how hot your oven runs and how thick your slices are. Flip the slices every 30 minutes and look for them to turn slightly translucent and dry. This will generally take anywhere from 2 - 6 hours. You could use these to decorate the outside of candles, but of course, exercise caution when they are lit since the oranges are flammable.
Sure! I mostly use these to decorate with, but you can also use them to garnish cocktails or hot tea. Another idea is to combine them with cloves and cinnamon sticks then simmer in water on the stove to make your house smell nice! Just keep an eye on the pot to be sure it doesn't boil over :)
It’s actually ground cloves! I only did that to some as a test to see if it would make them smell even better. If you are using them for aesthetic purposes, I would definitely skip adding cloves. If you’re making potpourri, the cloves are a nice touch.

Yup, I do struggle with having very oily skin. I hope you don’t have that problem because it’s a real pain. Regardless, I hope you found the video helpful and my face wasn’t too distracting.
Loved this video because you pointed out where things weren’t so good. I found it so helpful in deciding which method to use
Hey Patricia, I'm glad it was helpful!
Great job ! Definitely attempting this for my fall decor this year .
Yay! You won’t regret it 🧡

Love this! What temperature did you set your oven on for the parchment paper/ rack option? Thanks Amy! 🍊🌲
Thanks Amy! I did 200 degrees F 👍
@@BloomintheBlack Great, thank you so much! Have a great day
Using the parchment paper directly in the oven did you have leaks from the oranges thru the paper to the bottom of the oven?
None at all! It worked beautifully. Dabbing the slices with paper towels before placing them in the oven makes a huge difference as far as any juices that release during baking.
@@BloomintheBlack Thank you so much for your reply.
What temperature did you bake them in the oven on?? They certainly are beautiful thank you❤

Thank you so much!
How do you find the cost with drying your own ( buying the fruit and using gas or electric) compared to buying slices on Etsy? Curious.

How long did it take in the oven? On what temperature?

@ thank you 😊
Did you put an orange on butter paper and then put it in the oven for how many minutes, and does it help to decorate candles?

200 degrees F!
Why did you put black pepper on the orange?
It’s actually ground cloves! I only did that to some as a test to see if it would make them smell even better. If you are using them for aesthetic purposes, I would definitely skip adding cloves. If you’re making potpourri, the cloves are a nice touch.

Mate foundation and a light dusting of face powder will cut down on the shine.
Was it really necessary to say that? Very petty. Shame on you!
