"What are you doing here fruitcake?" I was crying.
"I HOPE EDDIE MURPHY ROBS YOUR HOUSE" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭 Man that had me in Fits of Laughter 😅
"Even though we're eight centuries behind, I'm fed up with you!"
Master of improv
Super funny
Lol
Don Rickles a legend, he does not need a script, he deconctructed sketch comedy and made a boring sketch funny in 30 seconds! We miss you Don, RIP.
Whomever wrote this skit is a VERY smart writer. “Put Don in a lame skit and let him rib the actors, jokes, lines in the skit”. This is how u let Don shine. U let him be himself!
A great lesson for today.
DAMN right bro
Dick Lewis did the same thing more or less with his show Daddy Dearest
It was an ok show with a pretty basic premise but Don was pretty much free to do his thing on there my g
Rickles was amazing that night. In each skit, he just went off book and started insulting the other actors. It was hilarious. Completely out of control. One of the best episodes ever.
We were so excited to hear Don was hosting SNL, we knew it would be one of the best, if not the best episode ever!
Such a great improvisation. I was awestruck by their reference to sketch Relocating Witness LOL
This is absolutely brilliant
Yes!!! The best part!
"I hope Eddie Murphy robs your house!" Classic Don!
He cracked up Piscapo with that one.
I wonder if it had to do with Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood. Also, at this time Murphy did taped appearances.
And his comment about Brooklyn: Was that intended as a jab at New Jersey?
Yes i agree Super funny classic
The "die by yourself" line was like throwing a hanging breaking ball to Babe Ruth.
It’s all Don in this episode. So many ad libs and hijinks with Joe Piscopo in almost every sketch!!! Lol
"MAY I SAY SOMETHING AS AN ACTOR .....YOU STINK" Absolutely Classic Don
The rest of the cast played it totally straight and they gave the entire sketch to Rickles to make work with his amazing delivery and ad libbing. He had a few lines scripted and the rest was all his lightning quick mind.
From the moment when Fruitcake entered, it was all ad libbed by Rickles to the end. One of a kind.
Not straight at all. They all broke down.
I just discovered that Don Rickles was on SNL.. quite possibly the funniest episode I've ever seen!
and that's ELAINE from Seinfeld!
@@boblozaintherealworld3577 she was a regular cast member but only for a season or two.
1:03 he doesn’t get why the audience didn’t laugh, and he asks Julia to help out since the crowd is in a coma...
@m perkins She was a regular cast member for three seasons.
ILL TELL YA DIS!
You're a stunning lady, "with surgery..." - a perfectly-timed zinger by the best improv comedian of all time (along with Robin Williams)
I just came from the Witness Protection sketch. My belly hurts again! kkkkkkkkkkkkk
I know!!!!! Easily the best SNL sketch ever!!!
Die alone!?!?
I hope Eddie Murphy robs your house!!!
😂
Good night! We are fed up!
I can't tell how much of this is scripted, and how much is just Don. But I imagine, if anyone was allowed free reins with improv on SNL, it would be Don Rickles
thelostpiranha oh yes, the lighthearted, positive comment on youtube. Fuckyou
And of all the people that shouldn’t be given free reign to improv, it is Tom Green, and then Don Rickles a close second. Cringe city.
Rickles was awesome. Romeo and Juliet meet SNL meet the Borscht Belt meet Vegas. What's not to love. And, and, a young, nubile Julia-Louis Dreyfuss. Bonus!!
Great skit! I about "dropped my pants and fired a rocket"! 😃😄😅
Amen. His yelling at Joe Piscopo about the detective sketch is hysterical!
And you can tell they’re all having the time of their life. Joe Piscopo must be loving it because he’s beet red when he finally turns around.
Don Rickles 10/10!!!
How could anyone not break character with him...
I loved that skit and the reference to the earlier one. Brilliant improv comedy.
Don made this sketch so much better! So glad he hosted
oh shit! thats julia louis-dreyfus playing juliette! i totally forgot she was on SNL, but i didnt know it was that far back! shes an OG!!
Also Mary Gross from SCTV. She was on SNL for a few years in the early '80's. The great Michael Gross from "Family Ties" is her brother.
Not that much of an OG. She was in the 80's version. Right before the Original OG's.
@@Humanoidfreak 80s version? im confused.. the show started in 74. I say 'OG' because she was part of the cast when SNL was still a baby, before they even hit double digits. This is season 9, out of 46? Thats sounds pretty OG to me, yo.. and this was before her seinfeld days, she was just a baby too. JLD - baby OG!!
@@housevisand My bad. I meant the 8th season in the 80's. Where all the original cast left (Akyroyd, belushi, curtin, newman, Radner, Morris, & Chase). But yeah i get what your saying now.
@@housevisand I totally agree. Of course in Julia's case 'OG' also translates as, Oh, Gorgeous!
One of the best sketches from SNL along with John Belushi and Jim Carey. They sat the standards for comedy.
Belushi was wildly overrated. Just look at his work after just two seasons on SNL, a lot of which wasn't that good. Samurai Delicatessen got old after two sketches. Just the same bit over and over. All he had was Animal House after that, and he wasn't even a lead in that. Rickles was good, but a one trick pony. He was just the loud mouth guy who insulted ppl. Wow, what range. You really need to check out more of the better comedians from the last 20 years.
People say he made an unfunny skit better. I think that was the point. I think everyone else got regular Romeo and Juliet scripts and they just threw him in to break character and roast shakespeare.
Friar don is so funny!
"Friar Donaldo" is a crackup.
BAHAHAAAA!!! EMBEDDED TRUMP JOKE!!!
Rickles is the don of comedy!! Breaking all walls🤣🤣
Great line
"in puppy love over early Julia Louis Dreyfus SNL RUclips clips anonymous"
They're laughing and that makes me laugh
Love this sketch super funny classic
Best SNL ever....thanks go...thanks Don 🤣
Lmbo 🤣😂🤣 "you're nuts you're only 14yrs old where are ya goin huh"??
JLD so cute cracking up :)
***** i bet your cute when your cracking up to :) eyooo
She’s...amazing. Simply, amazing.
I thought she was good even way back then. She has said that she didn’t do very good work on SNL. I disagree , she was always good in small parts or starring roles. And I love her laugh!
@@johnvastola7748 Agree! She was terrific, one of the few bright spots on snl, along with Murphey and Piscopo. She must be modest about it. And, she's absolutely gorgeous.
@@waynej2608 oh absolutely
Rickles banging on about the slapping is the best part. "I don't forgive so easy!"
Season 9 needs to be released on DVD.
Now this is what I call COMEDY Dons Humor and Insults are what Define Comedy In its true Form He truly was The Greatest Comedian Ever hope your Resting in Gods love Don You are and Were The GRANDMASTER OF INSULT COMEDY 👌🏾
Don was just describing Rudy Giuliani LOL
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 THIS SKIT IS LEGENDARY
A Jew schlepping it out as a Friar. That's genius, absolute genius.
Rest in peace Don Rickles you frikkin legend. Reminds me of one of my good friends from my theater days , some nights during rehearsals he would have the whole team laughing for hours.
RIP Don...
Holy crap. Comedy anarchy. Rickles simply does not give a shit. Amazing.
They really should've brought Rickles back when Michaels had returned to the show.
Julia is adorable ❤️
And this is why Lorne never let The Don host. Lorne would shit himself halfway through the first improvised line, even though just one of Don’s ad libs are funnier than the entire current staff’s wiseass output.
Full marks to Dick Ebersol for letting The Don go unleashed.
SNL should do more Improvs.
Julia Louise never aged!
Shes as beautiful today as she was back then
Touché
Wonderful, thank you.
Holy shit hahaha😂 « I hope Eddie Murphy robes your house »
Lmao
It's amazing how many people are talking about that line. I think the joke had to do with Eddie's Mr. Robinson character. Also, Eddie at the time wasn't doing the show live.
Julie Louis- Dreyfus and Rickles 🙌
And, Don got to kiss her. Lucky s.o.b.
I absolutely adore her. I know Don would have roasted me for saying that btw lol
2:40 Elaine trying not to break character
Oh God this is so hilarious 😂
Pure GOLD
2:52 - EPIC - his spontaneousness Broke the 4th wall!!!!!!!!!! Don Rickles!
"Die by thyself!" Baha!!!
Super underrated cast - one of my favorites. Brad Hall, Gary Kroeger and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were a funny trio, Mary Gross was hilarious, Eddie of course, Joe was funny too...it's really too bad the entire cast that didn't quit after 1984 were let go. Would have been nice to see Gary or Mary in the cast in the latter half of the nineties - all funny people that deserved a longer career.
Also, as far as I'm aware, most of what Don says in this sketch is improvised. This entire episode is a grand and amazing mess.
Errol Flynn on a bad swing! HAhahahahaha!!!
Super funny 😄😄😄😄😄 classic
I think billy idol was the music that night, and Don even jumped on him as he introduced him! LMAO
Shakespeare would've loved this!
Don is a loose cannon in a good way.
Truly one of the most funniest sketches in SNL HISTORY.... the ad libbing is priceless...interesting Rickles is never included in anniversary shows...Lorne Michael's is petulant snob...
You got that right! Makes me sick.
Love how they kept the Shakespearean accent and Don didn’t 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ahahah that funny moment ahahahah LOL XD
Just imagine the jokes at the time dressing Don! Uff! 😂 Don:Whate are you turning me? I am on fire !!!!
I'm dons biggest fan and I never knew about him on SNL
He hosted the Jan 28, 1984 episode with Billy Idol as the musical guest
Then that makes you Don's SECOND biggest fan, because I remember Don co-hosting 'LIVE with Regis and Kathie Lee' back in the 90's, and Jim Belushi was a guest that day; he and Don were reminiscing about when he appeared on SNL and just did what he wanted. :D
@@warreng3238 hell no! I’m his number one fan period you "hockey puck" !
Joe was laughing at Don. And I loved Don mentioning the other sketch where Joe kept slapping him. See, that's what the current SNL needs to be funny.
Super Funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've never known if Don had actual lines and went "fuck it," was given lines but told he could improvise, or basically had no lines and just made shit up. Whatever the case, he's the only SNL guest I can remember who's done this and, whether it was sanctioned or not, slayed what would've been a suck-ass show. Long live the Don.
By most accounts he was a terrific guy. I'll wager he would not have done anything in an ensemble situation like this without the green light.
@@mikestevenson576 Lorne Michaels is apparently notorious for not wanting people to improvise, but perhaps he made an exception for Mr. Warmth, who, it's true, was almost universally beloved and respected. Having said that, I will now take my cookie and go away.
@@randalwung8715 Lorne Michaels was not involved with the show at the time of this episode. When the bell rings, I will go to history.
@@mikestevenson576 Well that makes everything more understandable (as you were typing yours, I was up in your room, stealing your jewelry).
@@randalwung8715 This show is from the Dick Ebersol era. Without a doubt, Rickles would have driven Lorne crazy, and I can understand why - this had to be one of the most chaotic nights ever for SNL. How do you even time the show when there is so much ad-libbing?
There was one that Don Rickles did the Robin Hood sketch on SNL that almost everybody break their character, even Joe Piscopo lose his shit...it was funny asf.....
"And I hope Eddie Murphy robs your house!" - This is legendary, Don was so great breaking character & bringing up those slapping jokes, a master of timing. ❤
Lorne does not allow improvising. This skit was done under Ebersol's watch. Lorne, please reconsider!
Oh it would be a zillion times funnier if they improvised
Lorne doesn't even allow the people to crack up, which they should do. Half the time it makes the damn show memorable.
I can't believe I'm only now seeing this! Don The Man Rickles!
Elaine was in a sketch with Don Rickles!?!?
DEAM!!!!
epic don
Rickles with Elaine from Seinfeld?
I think Joe Piscopo sounded like Orson Welles in this sketch.
Hahahah fuck me dead my gut is so saw rickles is funny as hell
Rip to a great comdiean & Actor Don Rickles we still miss you
So right you are. No one to take his place. Absolute shame.
@@dougbrowne9890 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
JLD and hubby Brad Hall!!
Top class Don, agreed. But does anyone else get hints of Jack Nicholson in 'A Few Good Men'? Potentially an inspiration for Jack? Unless my dates are wrong?
Wherefore means why, she is contemplating her sordid fate, why must you be a Capulet Romeo? Given their families are fated to be rivals and their love forbidden.
Is that really Julia Louis Dreyfus? She would have to be like 15 here.
Don you get your cookies at last R. I. P
Crazy....Great.....
"...as Rabbi Elekura said..."
And they’re all so ‘’Jewish ‘’ they let it go.
2:00 Um, did he say I'm f****ed up? Sure sounded like it.
'I forgot' is how I heard it.
"afore God, I am so vexed..." - from Romeo and Juliet
Julia is so beautiful
Aw yes, Shakespeare in the original. Gotta love thee, or thine, or thy, whatever.
Good lord, The Don’s burn on poor Mary Gross at 3:15. “You’re a stunning lady, with surgery.”
Can you please upload the sketch where Julia plays Linda Ronstadt?
Yes!! I'd love to see that. Julia playing Linda makes sense, as they're both gorgeous.
She looks just like her
Lol Rickles is the 🐐
You people talk funny!
What are the words of this high vocabulary english?
Julia looks like Jasmine.. she so pretty
Lorne to the cast: here's your script, and your script, and your script..
Lorne to Don: just fuck around.
This was Dick Ebersol's time on the show.
@@sha11235 yes. Lorne Michaels said he'd never allow Rickles to do what he did. I think it was genius.
@@brianmcfan Michaels sounds like a real stick in the mud.
Rickles= Zero fux given
Rickles with this hair looks so odd!
All of them do
who plays Romeo, can anyone tell me?
Brad Hall who married Julia
Gary Kroeger.
Gary Kroeger. Brad Hall plays his father. Brad Hall and Julia were dating at the time and would later marry.
Rickles just destroys the entire skit....but kills in laughter .....they wouldnt dare let him on this today
jld was gorgeous
