    I got to see Joan live, less than year before she passed. One of the best nights of my life. She roasted me and my husband (we were literally in front of the stage) to death and I loved every second of it. She then ordered us some shots of vodka (we are Russian) and threw her hair extension at me. I of course keep it to this day.

      They were both so quick-witted, these old ladies were able to come up with so many surprising, raunchy jokes on the spur of the moment. They were both so good at "thinking on their feet" when it came to comedy

      @@nathanfitzgerald6651 Yes, and it's no surprise at all that Joan Rivers had such a remarkably sharp and quick wit because that's what she was known for, but Betty White was known as a comedic actress and not a comic per se, like Lucille Ball, who always said she depended on other people's funny writing and physical comedy to get laughs. Betty probably could have been a standup.

      @@nathanfitzgerald6651​​⁠ a favorite Betty white clip of mine is a talk show a decade or so ago, they said they couldn’t get William shatner to “come” with her (to the show) and she quickly replied that she wished she could get him to as well and it took the audience a couple seconds for it to sink in, and the laughter just started to roll louder and louder. Great clip, hilarious bit. She could have been a standup with her quick wits. I miss her.

      She literally did- I actually have pondered a few times how she felt with the other major names of her time gone so long…there must have been a certain amount of gratefulness and even gentle pride, but also much sorrow. May she enjoy her new life with the Ancestors 🙏🏾💜

    Betty White and Joan Rivers were natural comedians. The reason so many loved Betty was her positive and kindness and how she treated everyone with compassion and kindness. Rest In Peace Betty, you will be truly missed but will forever be loved and make people laugh.

One of the greatest things in life is to be able to see and appreciate the beauty others bring into the world, even if we have not sat down and had a glass of tea with them. And when the life of the giver of beauty is over, it does touch my heart, causing me to tear up.
      Today I am sad for the family if the 10th grade hockey player who tragically died playing his sport, and I didn't even know he existed until today. The gift he had to give the world hadn't even fully started yet.

      @@h.r.3319gotta agree … i’ve been a Betty fan since i can recall, that’s 55 yrs. One of the _VERY FIRST_ things i remember about her from my childhood is her fervent
      ❤️ of dogs. It’s something that many ppl liked & admired about Betty. Can’t imagine claiming to be a big fan but not knowing one of the main reasons that ppl ❤️’d her. Personally i find that odd & insincere. Just me? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I miss the comedians, comedic actors and comedy I grew up with in the 70s and 80s. Seriously - there's nothing remotely as good as them now. To watch those two going back and forth and obviously having a blast doing so is great.

      @Jeff Morse, I agree. And the way we restrict comedy so no one is ever offended. Dean Martin roasts were technically clean. But they said stuff on network tv that might not be allowed on cable today. Ethnic jokes to each other. Sammy Davis got pounded, Jew jokes, black, Italian, Irish. They used to do Sinatra and Mafia stuff. Then the guy's like George Carlin, so many great ones. Would Archie Bunker have been allowed in today's correct world? Giving a good joke, and taking one are now difficult to do. I miss those days too my friend. 😄🤪✌️☮️👍

    Pick a finger............ Joan's late-night show was a riot, shame it ended too soon. I'm old enough to remember Betty and Allen doing the game show circuits, they too were a riot. Both of these ladies have brought so much joy and laughter to us all.

      @@arronmalt Hence our need to understand the difference between a joke and ridicule. A joke takes the audience and subject into consideration. Betty and Joan are able to crack those jokes because they know there is no ill intent.
      Ridicule, however, *is* ill intent. The humor is made at the expense of the subject rather than with the subject's view in mind.

    Two things I always admire in others are intelligence and a sense of humor. These two ladies had both. It's heartwarming to see them together and roasting each other when you know there's nothing mean about it. They were just competing to see who could come up with the biggest zinger! Love them both.
