Delta Dawn was written by the late great Alex Harvey, and it was about his mother. She suffered from mental illness and killed herself when he was 12 years old. Alex was a singer/songwriter who wrote several hit songs for Kenny Rogers and Tompall and the Glaser Brothers, among others. He's now gone on to that mansion in the sky, but he left us one of the greatest sing-alongs in musical history. RIP, Alex.
