Couldn't have said it better. This is one of those stories where the absolutely glorious mess of a trainwreck just kept me morbidly fascinated despite the fact that I wasn't emotionally engaged/connected with any of the characters hahah. I also can't wait for the next one, the set-up for the sequels is so strong!
I've had my eyes on this one for months, but the not so memorable characters is such a non-Abraham thing that I kept postponing being the book. I'll trust you on this one and get my hands on it soon. I'm almost done with Empire of Silence, first entry in the Sun Eater series (been meaning to start it for years), and it's quite good, totally different from what I expected but in a good way so far.
I think if you’re ok with something that’s more about the atmosphere then I’d definitely recommend it to you! Empire of Silence is one I’m definitely going to get to at some point. Glad to hear you’re liking it!
This is one trilogy that I'm still mulling over if i want to start. I'm a baby when it comes to space opera scifi. You're right in the technology being more than what i care to read about. I just don't care abt it. But i love Dune because they can still fight and have creatures and abilities but i don't have to care abt the technology. I'll wait and see how it goes before i totally nix the trilogy.
@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD that’s really fair but I will say that it’s not super space oper-y. It definitely is but the scale of this book is quite small, so it feels more intimate than, perhaps, one would expect. I think it’s probably a safe bet to wait and see though, as I have a feeling it’s going to expand out in the next book.
Another excellent review, Zara. Definitely think I'll be getting to this sooner than later, but maybe after I've read Dagger & Coin. One thing I've learned from watching booktube for about 5 years now is hype is subjective and hinges on which circles you run in, so I've barely heard anything about this book, despite my love of Long Price Quartet. Nice to see a SF series being discussed that isn't Red Rising or Sun Eater though 😂 I'm still planning on tackling The Expanse at some stage, but have 0 idea when. Btw, how's Farseer going? I've 3 and a half books of RotE left 😢
Thanks Rogue! How far into Dagger and Coin are you? I really want to pick up that series… maybe next year. Farseer is going great! I finished the second one last week. Loved it! Going to start the third one tonight probably, and I’m hoping it’ll keep me good company on my long flight on Monday. My review of the first one will be coming out in the next few weeks. It’s an hour long… 😂
@@bookswithzara Not yet, but hopefully soon. I just wrapped up Rain Wild Chronicles and I've picked Dandelion Dynasty back up so maybe after that and RotE are done. Royal Assassin is so good! Hopefully you'll like Assassin's Quest, I definitely appreciate it more in retrospect now that I'm going to be starting the final Fitz trilogy soon.
@@bookswithzara Disregard my previous comment on what I'm currently reading, I couldn't help myself and picked up the first book in the last RotE trilogy last night and I'm already a quarter of the way through 😅
The Expanse is incredible. Binge read the series last year. Tv show is good too; I will even say the show is better than the books. I’m glad to this new release got mostly positive reviews
I'm really excited to watch the series, eventually. Debating whether to watch it first or read the books first. Probably will end up watching the show first.
I love Daniel Abraham’s writing and read his solo books after loving the Expanse series. Will read this one soon.
Nice! I really need to read Dagger and Coin at some point. Have you read that one?
Good review! Lots of my thoughts echoed
Be sure to catch the Livesuit novella coming October 1st!
@@kaizacorp ohhh nice! Had no clue this was coming out. Thank you!

Exactly! I hope we get more character development in the next book though.
