yeah and a lot of the contemporary ones are just a misunderstanding which some ppl rly hate, i don't mind necessarily but it does get tired at a certain point (especially if it was stupid lol)
getting a video every other day sounds amazing! I appreciate that you invest so much time into making them and can only hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoy watching them 😊
For a fun little read Steinbeck's Travels with Charlie, it is about his traveling the US in a truck camper with his French poodle Charlie, and his observations on America. And Charlie is also quite a personality. Also the Wayward Bus. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. :)
If you liked East of Eden I would strongly recommend Grapes of Wrath! I have read almost everything by John Steinbeck and I have to say his bigger books are his most excellent work!
Hey Emily! 😊 I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel, Books with Emily Fox! Your book hauls and cozy vibes really resonate with me. I love how you share your genuine thoughts on what you read-it feels like chatting with a friend! I’m reaching out because I’d love to connect! I have a book in mind that I think you’d really enjoy, and I’d be thrilled to chat about it if you’re interested. Looking forward to hearing from you! Happy reading! 📚✨ Sargin
I am so happy you loved Atonement. I read it when I was 18 (16 years ago) and to this day it remains in my top 5 reads of all time. Very beautiful story.
I read the Neopolitan Novels when the translated versions came out and recently reread them after returning from Napoli. I’m also following the series on HBO and can’t help but feel totally a part of and immersed in the worlds of Lila and Lenu.. Extraordinary!
Shadow of the Wind series is so amazing! Especially when you finish all four books and get the whole story. It's one of my favorite books/series of all times.
especially the romance books are moving up on my tbr because I have been looking for some good romance. I have tons of recommendations for all kind of other genres but there arent many people that i trust with romance recommendations
I still haven't read East of Eden, but if you're interested in more Steinbeck The grapes of wrath is great. I wanted to read it for years and even bought it and then a college teacher I hated recommended it and made it sound boring and that made me not read the book for years and when I finally did I read it in two sittings even though it's 600 pages. It may be a little boring at first, but it's one of my favourite books ever
I second this recommendation. I've read several of Steinbeck's books/novellas (The Red Pony is good) and I loved East of Eden but not as much as I loved Grapes of Wrath. What a powerful book. Can't recommend it enough.
The only Steinbeck I've read so far was "Of Mice and Men," which was a weird little book. I have a few of his others so I'll have to give "East of Eden" a try.
I’ve read the Neapolitan novels twice and will definitely read them again. They are my favourites. Listen to them on audiobook as the narrator Hilary Huber is fantastic ❤
I DNFd Shadow of the Wind because of the sexism, I’m surprised you pushed through and it’s even in this video, now I’m contemplating if I should give it another chance 🤔 And then I added and moved up a few other books you mentioned in my TBR
One of the books booktube introduced me to that I loved was Sorcery of Thorns and just recently the author announced a special edition French only version that has annotations from the character Silas as well as the companion novella included. If I were French speaking I'd be all over that.
I will say it again, if you like Atomic Habits, you should read The Power of Habit by Duhigg. It’s the book that inspired Atomic Habits and is sooo much better. It reads more like a science book than a self help book, and gives real life examples of how corporations use the science of human habits in order to get the people to do what they want…such as keep buying their product or keep going to their casino, etc. So good. ❤
Highly recommend On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan. About a newly married couple, on their wedding night, and how their upbringing set them each up for this wedding night.
I took a class on Steinbeck for my master's in Literature. A lot of his writing definitely stays with you. His most popular are Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. I do recommend the 90s film of the latter with John Malkovich. So good!
It's so exciting to see you posting so often! Also this is so random, but when you watch TV shows in a foreign language, are your subtitles in French or English usually?
I read East of Eden and Shadow of the Wind years ago and loved them. Brilliant Friend is on my nightstand ready to go. If you want more Steinbeck, I thought The Grapes of Wrath was even better than Eden, just get through that first chapter and you're good to go. The rest of his work is novellas, pick any and you will probably enjoy it! Thanks for the video!
Oh good!!! East of Eden I want to read that next year. I agree I’m really not a romance reader I can’t say why it is I picked up beach read to begin with but I ate it up! I stayed up late into the night I had to finish it! I was sooo invested! It made me rethink my aversion to romance which the irony of that concept was a fun thing too. Atonement! Good to know I saw the movie too I think that’s why I havn’t picked it up yet it’s collecting dust on my shelf. And I’m like but… I saw the movie! 🤷🏻♀️
I just read Funny Story by Emily Henry and I absolutely loved it and recommend!!!! I read The Shadow of the Wind and I couldn't understand the hype 😂 (it happens) My brilliant friend is in my tbr with High expectations for this one!
I thought Atomic Habits had some good golden nuggets in there (like the habit stacking or the idea that 'winners and losers have the same goals, it's about strategy') but I could not get over the fatphobia. Weight loss and dieting is used as an example of a good, positive achievement on literally every single page. There are so much more interesting and productive things people can achieve and it really put me off. I'm about to read Atonement and One Dark Window so now I definitely can't wait!
I read East og Eden last year, and picked up Grapes og Wrath this year. I think East of Eden is my favourite, but I really enjoyed The Grapes of Wrath as well. The dialogue is written in dialect wich was a bit difficult in the beginning since english isn’t my frist language, but as I got used to it I found that it helped tell the story. There is a scene in the end that is a bit strange, but maybe the meaning of it went over my head.
I feel like there's a lot of miscommunication in Beach Read sadly, which made me not enjoy it as much. And what's with that doughnut scene??? I'm enjoying frequent videos! :D
I think you would like the book Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain. It’s historical fiction, which I know isn’t your favorite (mine neither), but it is about the eugenics program in the US, which I think is a topic you would find interesting. It’s a really great book.
I was also pleasantly surprised by Atomic Habits and agree that East of Eden is fantastic. I was surprised to see Shadow of the Wind on this list, I thought it was just ok and the sexism definitely stuck out to me too.
I want to read a novel or story having a love triangle with both equally good love interests. However, female lead who is insecure loves the main lead and vice versa and she never notices the pure love of the second lead. There should be suspense and mystery. Any suggestions?
6:00 Claudia makes an appearance and makes me smile. I love the video, Emily! Okay, I know this is not the beauty channel, but gurl, I LOVE your lipstick, can you share the name.
I do hope you keep posting like mad... but if you don't, it's good too. I'm thrilled because I'm sure it comes from your health getting better and I hope this keeps going for you. You do seem better! I so agree about Emily Henry's Beach read and Book lovers! ❤ They are my favourites too (but I haven't picked up the last two yet). I' m intrigued about the Steinbeck one... 🤔 Makes me want to pick it up. I feel like I'm more reading along the line of "popular books not worth the hype" these days... 😅 Think I will read Atomic habits and I'm glad my mom died next... 😂
I will never understand the hype around My Brilliant Friend. I don't DNF, so it was a chore to finish the book. 😅 Shadow of the Wind, however, is one of my favourite books ever.
I didn't even know there's a third in the series by Abby Jimenez, but checking it out now, the premise sounds kind of not for me. I do wonder what your issues with the second one were if you feel like talking about it.
If you ever want to read a real shocker then mommy dearest will blow your mind. It’s a chonky monster but such a crazy ride and you don’t need to know much about the author or Joan Crawford if you’re not familiar with them.
The popular WWII suck but there are still good ones! "Daughters of the Night Sky" by Aimie K Runyan is good and about Russian. Women night bomber pilots.
If you loved Shadow of the Wind that much but not the 2nd book, I'd highly recommend going on and reading books 3 & 4. Book 2 is a prequel and has a completely different tone than the other three books, for reasons that are given in Book 3 (unreliable narrator but why he's so very unreliable is told then) - but Book 3 picks up right where Book 1 leaves off and you can read Book 2 in basically any order, or even skip it - Books 1, 3, and 4 need to be read in order. If you want I can give you the spoiler as to why (not really such a spoiler as it's told fairly right away in Book 3). I was totally confused by Book 2 until I went aha! when what really went on in that book was revealed in Book 3.
Does your East of Eden book have deckled edges? I saw a 2nd hand copy and left it on the shelf because of it. I don't like them. Would love to read it though.
What popular books did you find were worth the hype?
The Fifth Season comes to mind right away as worth the hype.
The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline.
Usually, I find really popular books to be a bit of a let down, but this one was actually really good imo.
Piranesi was fantastic!
The bear and the nightingale, Scythe, Nettle and Bone, The night circus (though this last one is a hit or miss)
I actually love more "haters to lovers" 🤣 enemies definitely sound more serious and it never is like that in the books, it's always a stupid reason 🤣
LOL you're not wrong. I feel like it's much harder to make up a good reason in a contemporary than a fantasy setting.
yeah and a lot of the contemporary ones are just a misunderstanding which some ppl rly hate, i don't mind necessarily but it does get tired at a certain point (especially if it was stupid lol)
Rivals is also a better word than 'enemies'. It can be a really fun dynamic.
getting a video every other day sounds amazing! I appreciate that you invest so much time into making them and can only hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoy watching them 😊
I'm so glad you're posting so often ^_^
I was surprised to see romance books! Definitely adding them to my TBR. I am also very skeptical of romance books, but I trust Emily 😊
If you don’t love them too there’s always a chance they won’t work for you but… still a higher chance than normal that you might lol
For a fun little read Steinbeck's Travels with Charlie, it is about his traveling the US in a truck camper with his French poodle Charlie, and his observations on America. And Charlie is also quite a personality. Also the Wayward Bus. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. :)
Travels with Charlie is so good. A great, fun travelogue.
Besides a big thank you for the book recommendations, I just wanted to mention that this lip color looks phenomenal on you!
If you liked East of Eden I would strongly recommend Grapes of Wrath! I have read almost everything by John Steinbeck and I have to say his bigger books are his most excellent work!

It looks to be the #1 recommendation to try next... I'll be looking for it!
yes atonement is so good! the writing is STUNNING
The only Steinbeck I've read so far was "Of Mice and Men," which was a weird little book. I have a few of his others so I'll have to give "East of Eden" a try.
I’ve read that one too! They’re quite different
I just bought My Brilliant Friend…can’t wait to dive in. ❤️
I’ve read the Neapolitan novels twice and will definitely read them again. They are my favourites. Listen to them on audiobook as the narrator Hilary Huber is fantastic ❤
I DNFd Shadow of the Wind because of the sexism, I’m surprised you pushed through and it’s even in this video, now I’m contemplating if I should give it another chance 🤔
And then I added and moved up a few other books you mentioned in my TBR
If you weren't feeling it, I wouldn't bother giving it a second chance. Too many good books out there!
One of the books booktube introduced me to that I loved was Sorcery of Thorns and just recently the author announced a special edition French only version that has annotations from the character Silas as well as the companion novella included. If I were French speaking I'd be all over that.

Thank you for putting the lip details in the description 🔥🔥
I absolutely loved Book lovers !! So mature and so beautifully written.
I read East of Eden and Shadow of the Wind years ago and loved them. Brilliant Friend is on my nightstand ready to go. I completely agree with most of your recommendations and am adding the ones I haven’t read to my tbr straight away!❤
I just read Funny Story by Emily Henry and I absolutely loved it and recommend!!!!
I read The Shadow of the Wind and I couldn't understand the hype 😂 (it happens)
My brilliant friend is in my tbr with High expectations for this one!

Steinbeck: Of Mice and Men, Cannery Row. My favorite is East of Eden.
Thank you so much for uploading more often! It’s been really great❤
I read East og Eden last year, and picked up Grapes og Wrath this year. I think East of Eden is my favourite, but I really enjoyed The Grapes of Wrath as well. There is a scene in the end that is a bit strange, but maybe the meaning of it went over my head.
I've had One Dark Window on the shelf forever...still in the tbr, but I still bought the 2nd book because of the reviews of this one.
I feel like there's a lot of miscommunication in Beach Read sadly, which made me not enjoy it as much. And what's with that doughnut scene???
I'm enjoying frequent videos! :D
I really dislike self help books but enjoyed atomic habits so much. Love your RUclips channel and just listening to you talk. ❤
I also loved all of the ones you mentioned that I've read, which means I need to get going on the other ones you talked about... :D
I think you would like the book Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain. It’s historical fiction, which I know isn’t your favorite (mine neither), but it is about the eugenics program in the US, which I think is a topic you would find interesting. It’s a really great book.

Some of these are moving up in my TBR! Thanks so much :)
I thought I heard a kitty meowing and there she is! So sweet ❤
Great reviews Emily. 🎉
Love Atonement so much, so happy to see it here!
Dude, you have been on *fire* with all this posting!
did you watch the first chapter of the final season of My Brilliant Friend?? I'm so excited to be back in Naples!!!
Ohh can you read The Kentree Series ( Kentree’s Stolen Souls & Haunted Halls. Smaller author, but I’m so curious to see what you’d think.
Atomic Habits pairs well with The Power of Habit. They cover 2 different sides of the same thing in a way that really compliment each other.
'she forgives him but I don't' HARD AGREE on some books and things like that
I might try East of Eden…. It was a favorite of my grandfather
Book Lovers is my favourite Emily Henry book.
I loved the book Look Closer by David Ellis and The Silent Patient - does anyone have any other book suggestions similar (or not) for me please 🙏🏼❤!?
I liked Atomic Habit but in the audio version. Not sure I would have been able to read the actual book.
I am learning Spanish and I started reading The Shadow of the Wind in spanish as well, as it is the original language. Wish me luck! 😂
Was just about to catch up on one of your older videos 😂❤
Binge watching session 😂
I recommend stephen king's the stand. It has everything you need
I will never understand the hype around My Brilliant Friend. I don't DNF, so it was a chore to finish the book. 😅
Shadow of the Wind, however, is one of my favourite books ever.
I didn't even know there's a third in the series by Abby Jimenez, but checking it out now, the premise sounds kind of not for me. I do wonder what your issues with the second one were if you feel like talking about it.
steinbeck’s novella “The Pearl” is good 👍🏽
i started east of eden but never finished it... maybe this is a sign i should 🤔
“I’m glad my mom died” was amazing!!
If you ever want to read a real shocker then mommy dearest will blow your mind. It’s a chonky monster but such a crazy ride and you don’t need to know much about the author or Joan Crawford if you’re not familiar with them.
Your bookshelves look really nice vs. last year. Getting rid of the old books, getting books that reflect your tastes look better.
Yes another Emily video ❤
This is my Netflix
The popular WWII suck but there are still good ones! "Daughters of the Night Sky" by Aimie K Runyan is good and about Russian. Women night bomber pilots.
The Shadow of the Wind is my favorite book -- I don't think I've read anything like that!
Wheee lets nerd out over it! Just fascinating
I loved Atomic Habits but somehow failed to do anything from the book 😅
If you loved Shadow of the Wind that much but not the 2nd book, I'd highly recommend going on and reading books 3 & 4. Book 2 is a prequel and has a completely different tone than the other three books, for reasons that are given in Book 3 (unreliable narrator but why he's so very unreliable is told then) - but Book 3 picks up right where Book 1 leaves off and you can read Book 2 in basically any order, or even skip it - Books 1, 3, and 4 need to be read in order. It does and I hate it 😭
@@BookswithEmilyFox I'll have to find a copy published by Penguin or I'll read it in French. 🤷♀️ 🖤🐧
I feel like we would be besties irl because nothing enrages me more than misogyny 😂
I’ve still yet to read an Emily Henry book 😭
Grapes of wrath!
Steinbeck
Just like you said about modern classic am very suspicious the same way with beach read. I read it and I don’t get the hype!!!!
Surprised you didn't mention the greenbone saga lol
I just read the first chapter of shadow of the wind. I loved it. shame about the sexism
Thank you for the video
Good day How can I write to you?
Dear God! The Shadow of the wind is modern gothic literature!!!! 😢
Wilhelm Fields
Dickens Ridges
awesome!!
Good afternoon my dear friend
full support
I got the entire Neapolitan series bc of you! Can’t wait to read!
❤️📚🐱
finally
East Of Edén was boring and unnecessary long for me
