- John Paul Jones and Diamanda Gala collaboration for Sporting Life LP. Here the band plays on the John Stewart show. I am guessing this is in the last few months of 1994.

I love singing this one when sitting around the campfire with my friends ...
Just imagine you’re in a talk show and the pit of hell opens up and a banshee starts screaming, holy shit.
Thank you for this treasure.
lol!
Saw this tour and met both JPJ and Diamanda, JPJ signed my 1st LZ album cover and both him and her were the nicest ppl. A night i'll never forget ! :)
I think this is the most light that has ever been shone on John Paul Jones.
The audience had to be blown away. pretty sure they would not have expected that, just as sure they never forgot it. Diamanda is a beautiful dark sun. Nobody else on her level.
A dark sun is the perfect description. She has an incredible stage presence If she were a dark goddess i would worship her.
Thank God
If Marilyn Manson had a twin
@@aussiehillbilly Marilyn Manson isn't able to hold a candle to her. She shits more talent than he can dream of. Don't get me wrong, I like MM but you can't compare bubble gum to sacred genius They are not of the same realm.
@@Cakegrrrl well they're both agents of the Cabal. And they eat their own eventually. Satan won't save them from themselves
SO Brilliant. She vibrates at a different frequency than the rest of us humans.
Perfectly spoken

I remember hearing about Diamanda back around this era but I never did get to see her live. JPJ knew what was going on with her and to me, this is a masterpiece. I don't care what she's saying, her voice is such an amazing instrument.
I love the music of DIAMANDA, awesome! So different, free and powerful
Holy shit. MTV was something else in the 90s.
you are technically right...just like mcdonald's, victoria's whatever, etc.....lots of things that are...not this
Haha, yep!
This video contains an MP3 audio format and yet Galas has the ability to rip the flesh inside my bones through
This is brilliant. I hate the word underrated-- I think what people mean when they use that word is that some music is not for everyone. That is why it is neither featured in the radio top twenty, earns Grammies or is otherwise praised and fawned over by pop media. I first came across this over 10 years ago and was instantly mesmerized by Diamanda Galas' vocal range and unique quality. The intent of this comment is not to sound elitist or better than thou. The reason, I believe, that some people resonate with this type of music versus the 4-4 120 BPS sound is because we we all operate at different frequencies. You either like something or you don't. The more educated among us can explain why they like it. I can't. I just love this!
I remember watching this when it was broadcast, and I remember her walking away from the host which made me laugh. It wasn't until a long time later that I found out it was Jon Stewart. I saw the trio play live in San Francisco and have seen her solo three other times.
That’s how you’re supposed to treat Jews
Very cool JPJ appreciated and supported her
Progression very zep
BASS, DRUMS AND VOICE... AMAZING!!!!!
Best trio
Holy shit a brick Batman john Stewart reppin ms. Galas in 1994 is some serious cred. Casting talent on point John! Serious stuff!!!
Absolutely amazing, actual Magick! Free Jazz tenor saxophone players hit similar notes, incredible.
magick absolutely
@@darladinglesdon't be a dicckk 😂😂😂
In 1994, Hootie and the Blowfish had the best selling album of the year. Odds are most of the audience was not prepared for this song....
The 94 was for sure more prepared for this than 2023 audience would be.
You're not wrong, but Nine Inch Nails "The Downward Spiral" came out in '94 too... and debuted at #2 on the charts (which is also kind of impossible to comprehend these days).
She's a Real Life Banchee !!!
I dig her ❤🎉❤
Wow !!! She really expresses the way a lot of us feel these days.
John Paul Jones: We gonna play rock and Roll!
Crowd: where is the guitarist?
John Paul Jones: well, it's right here!
Crowd: But this is Diamanda Galas!
John Paul Jones: ;)
john stewart: continue's' to pout in the corner because the camera didn't need to be on him
diamanda is inhumanly amazing. saw a solo show in early 80s In Brooklyn. one of a kind
What an actual dream
Wow Cool
Back then, it really must've all been about pushing the envelope. It's kinda hard to believe shit like this used be on tv. Sick twisted bitch!
P.S It's all meant with love.
I saw them at Irving Plaza in NYC and was blown away. What a show!!😂
Greatness. The Sporting Life is one of the best rock albums ever made.
3:36 That is the sound of the feedback of an electric guitar leaning against an amplifier at full volume. Difficult to imagine that a human voice could immitate that so precisely. Makes you wonder if Diamanda is human at least in the respect.
What yoko ono wishes she could be.
Hmm... come to think of it, you may be right about it, although i like some of Yoko's output too.
@@theo9952 feel free to name one. Every time I’ve ever heard her open her mouth I become a worse person for a short time
@@-Swamp_Donkey- Putting her early screeching stuff aside, I actually like nearly all of Yoko's solo albums. Her songs are quite decent, interesting and lyrically she always has things to say. Positive things. I really don't see why anyone would become a worse person by listening to her music.
awkward at the end there when jon stewart comes up to thank them and shake her hand or something and diamanda just walks off lol
Yep she was like fuck this guy lol.
4:14 - mindblowing. She could cut glass with her voice
For sure. And her legato (f.x. at the beginning) sounds quite similar to classical indian singing.

1:55 !
The best of both worlds
Morning after I saw this I went and seeked out her entire catolog
She is an amazing vocalist, let alone her compositional and pianistic skills, but the truth is that i can hardly take more than a few minutes of it. I find it kind of too disturbing. There was a time though when i managed to endure a full live performance of her. That was in Athens Greece in the mid eighties. But i was much younger then.
Jesus I’d be screaming like jar jar binks for how excited I would be ❤😊
Anf shes so beautiful.. crazy
Absolute best thing I've ever seen!!!!!!!!
And people think Mariah Carey is talented? Diamonda Galas and Mike Patton are the only vocalists I've ever heard with the ability to wrap their voices inside and around itself, singing multiple notes at once, but separately. It's INSANE talent!
i truly believe that Mike Patton is the greatest modern male vocalist. so interesting that you put him next to diamanda... I think is is fitting
beautiful
the host with his neat hair and sweater introducing a nice little piece that most of the audience don't realise is entitled: Kill me! Looks like Koumbaya stayed at home.
Incredible!
Wow, i have no words.
Eccezionale 👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️♥️
Я удивляюсь: насколько точно на записи в 1995, насколько точно сейчас. Слов нет!
Buena shet. Vine por recomendación de Pablito Saldarriaga.
Either John Stewart was ahead of his time and supporter of alternative artists, or his booking guy hated him with a fiery passion.
My friend played one of her albums for what normally would be a lot of trick or treaters. No one came.
JUST BRILLIANT
Would LOVE to see the REST of the 2nd song in its entirely that ran till the end of the credits!!
The song is called Do You Take This Maan. I would love to see it too..but seems not easy, they aired it like that I guess
Amazing
fantastic
props to the bassist getting along everything
That's John Paul Jones. Easily the most successful person in this video.
I vaguely remember that of throat work action when I was in the red light district in Amsterdam. My God was amazing!
are you rested yet?
Way to wave your red flag, buddy.
After first 1:20 I would be scared !
ive never seen this , i love her , i bet all these people don’t know who she is
Incredible. Beyond.
So ahead of the Time. John Stewart seemed scared lol.
fantastic
Just real people living life without a screen in sight.
I really want to see do u take this man
Amazing!!
Sounds like she is trapped in Hell Forever unable to abide the fire but she must.
San Diego's finest = #DiamandaGalas
Would love to see her play a show with Magma
wow what an idea... but yes I believe that'd be amazing if very weird
I prefer watch her playing with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Devin Townsend... The song: Black Sabbath;)
challenging music but quite emotionally engaging if you listen with an open mind. And at least Jones is using his gift, unlike Jimmy Page.
Saw this tour come thru Chicago. Mindblowing
Ha, I was there too, at the Park West. Fantastic show.
@@dougsworld5324 Park West is IMO the best place in the World to see a concert. Definitely in Chicago.
@@SLAYERSWINE1 LOL I took your picture with Ade in front of the Park West.

PJ Harvey meets Yoko Ono…but in a good way
I came here after i read a restaurant in California cannibal something idek now😮,she shook me 😮😮, but on the restaurant event page it listed her preforming and i had to see what kind of art8st is down with performing in a place that serves human meat😢
This is all i needed to know
you possibly might be referring to the cannibal club in la
Suggestion to a little Band:
Diamanda Galas - vocal
Tony Iommi - guitar
Geezer Butler - bass
Devin Townsend - guitar and vocal
Gene Hoglan - drums
How about all except Diamanda. Devin is actually good.
@Douglas Farnsworth Imagine they playing 1970's Black Sabbath or Diamanda Red Death live... Pure Jam;)
@@alchemist1111 In my opinion, she is better than him. Even because he plays guitar and her, piano. Only Mike Patton can do something in her style...
@@alchemist1111 😨😂😂😂
anybody which episode this is? Probably season 2 but I'm not sure which episode
Is this for real? If so, brilliant!
And look at the length of her mike ...
Larga vida a mi reina Diosa Diamanda Galas mi. Amor te amooo 🤘🏽🤘🏽🖤🖤🖤💋💋
Its true. Es una D i o s a .
like a latter day Yma Sumac...
this is Hell.
no, but Galás created the auditory equivalent of it with The Satanic Litanies, and I mean that as a positive.
INSPIRATION
Essa deve ser a 4, 5 vez que lhe encontro nos comentários.. ver aí a notificação, e adivinhe quem é o doido?.
Loved her in Galaxy Quest!
She is performing at The Cannibal Club in LA, a "restaurant" that serves human flesh.
skotsimi hahahaha . John Stewart wanted to say Skotose me (meaning ''kill me'' in Greek)
yessss!
I'd like to hear a duet with her and Yoko Ono
DIAMANDA GALAS BIZARRAP SESSION WHEN
After this, The Immigrant Song is a walk in the park for her
Che Sun Ra la illumini!!!
This exists.
YES
Fucking gorgeous...
Damn banshee!
Cool
Diamanda Galas could make Freddy Krueger get hide beneath the bed;)
Nobody does Byzantine hard rock like Diamanda and JPJ.

No need for a guitarist this is the two piece.

0:17 "Scotsimi" lol
Music from nightmare
sounds like The Jesus Lizard if they replaced David Yow with Yoko Ono.
Qué voz dé morra
Sounds like she should do a duo with Yoko.
That would be amazing. But I'm thinking you were trying to be funny rather than making a serious suggestion.
She's taking Robert Plant to school.
Yoko Ono was her voice teacher and lyricist. Her star (and only) pupil.
That’s a boldface lie
@@justinthind5513 Nope. Plain type.
that's a doubtful yoko-motive
