My Huge Pork Rinds Review and Taste Test (Unbiased)- Thomas DeLauer
I went to the grocery store and bought all of the available pork rinds and ranked them by factoring in the price, ingredients and taste of each! Enjoy, and I'll see you in the comments!
I'm putting much more of my content and communication via email now to make sure you get the information that I provide (RUclips has some new algorithms on health related content). Join my newsletter here: www.thomasdelauer.com/life-optimization-tactics/
Just signed up. I buy UTZ origin pork rinds 510 g.jar from Costco. It says fried pork skins, salt as ingredients. So it could be fried in anything ? Not good?
Great video Thomas! Please try to get some pork rinds from Pork King Good and review those as well. Very clean ingredients and they taste great. Would love to see your reaction and review of that brand too.
I think it’s totally fine to make a personal choice not to consume MSG of course but as a guy who loves science you must admit the science against it is weak at best. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6952072/
The best best pork rinds are made by US Wellness Meats, extremely clean and fresh and tasty but they have been out of stock for a while now 😢
Ok i know my question has nothing to do with this video but i am going beserk on your channel feeding myself with all this amazing info. Ok question #1 do spices break a fast?
#2 if i love do to intermitten fasting and i dont lower my calorie intake is it still good?
Thank you again for your amazing videos i have currently lost 13lbs and i feel amazing. Your vidoes are changing my life and i am super greatful
Keep up the great work
If ever you answer i will be even more greatful😉
@@ketonobull1649 They are fried in veg oil. I won't eat them.
Pork rinds are my go to nacho replacement. Melt some cheese on them & throw lettuce, pico, guac, sour cream, shrimp & sliced steak on top😋
Omg I’m going to tryyyy
duuuude! ssllliurpp
You….you a genius
Dude never thought of that. That's a good idea 💡
Well there goes my 10% body fat...
I only eat the Mac's Original. I love them in Hot Sauce! I also use them in a yummy cheese burger salad. Beef, Cheddar, Mustard, Mayo, Tomato, Pork Skins sprinkled in!.
Same here. I love the original and buy them by the huge tub-full. I use them in my homemade Pork Panko for “Fake & Bake” pork chops or frying seafood. The Golden Macs is my favorite for just munching or dipping in queso.
Yeah, just bought 2 big jugs of Mac’s Original, because I’d be in a world of hurt if they stopped selling those babies. They’re perfect for my palette.
Man I'm a pork rind addict
Haven’t even gotten to 2 minutes and I already like the format
Gotta say, Thomas, would be interesting to see more taste test videos. Maybe tasting keto ice creams or other keto foods!
rebel has birthday cake and peppermint chip.. great for the holidays
I initially watched this video because I love pork rinds. Then when I decided to go to Walmart, I remembered wanting to buy a healthy dry snack, and pork rinds seem like a decent choice. I bought Mac’s Salt and Vinegar pork rinds for $1.78!
Edit: I ate the whole bag the day I bought it.
GREAT Review. I lived in south Texas. The local pig farmers made their own. Them things had meat on them. If you put them in a paper bag the bag would be soaked in grease.
Sounds like heaven 😍 🥴🙌
Those are pork cracklings. But yep nothing compares
A lot of the bbq restaurants in NC do that too. As a child that was my first experience with pork skins. Big, chewy slabs that we covered in hot sauce. Just delicious!
I enjoyed your pork rind review and hearing you crunch. 💯👍And your comments were pretty funny too. 😂
I just found this channel by randomly looking up pork rinds. I really enjoyed this video. I am now subscribed:)
Epic is king in my family. Thanks for doing a pork rind review. I lost 100 pounds on a Dr Atkins variant, and I only wish Epic had been around for that victory. Kudos!
mac's original with potted meat as dip has replaced chips and salsa on my carnivore menu
I dip mine in guacamole sometimes
Ooooo...why did I never think of that?! I love me some deviled ham. I may need to grit my teeth and hit up Walmart 😒 Anyone know if Food Lion or Piggly Wiggly carries Mac’s? They’re not in the 3 stores I usually shop or ALDI.
@@Lucinda_Jackson Piggly Wiggly Alabama
@@kkangelita6015
Maybe I’ll check mine. I have only been inside a grocery store twice since March - once in Food Lion to buy one or two items I can’t get anywhere else and once in Harris Teeter because I had forgotten a couple of ingredients for a recipe and they changed their pick-up to a minimum of $25 🙄. But I might be willing to do a quick dash in for those and to restock those couple of items I can’t get elsewhere. I’ll check out PW tomorrow and hope they carry them in North Carolina, too!
@@kkangelita6015
Thank you!!!
The Macs in the green bag with the attached fat is my favorite if I don't make my own. I can get pork skin from my local meat market and I fry them out in lard I get from a local farmer.
Also my favorite :)
That’s some pork rind dedication!
In Florida Publix we have Baken-ets. Fried pork skins and salt. They are the lightest crispiest ones I’ve had.
Jane, yes, I agree! I actually bought a bag of those at a Dollar General here in northeast Ohio where I live. Frito Lay makes them, and they were really yummy!
The honey mustard flavor is awful. But the spicy hit sauce is delish. But it has MSG
They ARE excellent
Pork rinds saved me, it’s the perfect potato chip replacement. I’m addicted to chips as my go to snack but pork rinds eases those cravings
All over the net they are saying Maltodextrin will kick you off keto because it has twice the insulin response as sugar. In this review, you don't seem worried about it. Whats the truth?
My favorite brand of pork skins are Macs, don’t know what I would do without em
Pork Rinds dipped in sour cream, is literally why I stay in ketosis.
@Dylan Box. that’s interesting. I’ll try that tomorrow!
Will give it a TRY!!
I make homemade mayonnaise (with light olive oil) then I make homemade ranch and dip my pork skins in it. Soooo good I eat this almost every day !
@@pamcolding5925 ...you are a legend.
1502s are my favorite. The salt content is some of the lowest I've ever come across for pork rinds, yet they're still super tasty.
I love how you have so much helpful information out there! Can you do something for those of us that prefer a kosher diet? (IE: Pork rinds are out!)
Honestly one of the best practical nutrition advice channels I have come across, I can legitimately make a complete grocery list from Thomas' recommendations and be very confident in my choices. The competition are taking a loss every video he puts out hah !
Better Made Pork Rinds ( made in detroit Michigan) 4oz $3.29 only y pork and salt ingredients
4505 jalapeño cheddar are my absolute favorite of all pork rinds! Unfortunately my grocery store only carry the classic chili flavor now….so I use those and and cheddar powder and dried jalapeño to them. Epic is my second choice for snacking. Macs are super cheap and I use for crumbs but couldn’t snack on. Loved this video! Thanks for trying them all for us!
Yes, I did just watch a 20+ minute video on pork rinds. And yes it did improve my quality of life! LoL
I started, but then this guy started reminding me of my great aunt with all the sick health knowledge. I had to stop.
MSG is completely fine for you and probably naturally occurring in pork rinds. You need at least some flavor. Do you know what the best use is for the "cleanest" pork skins? Packing material.
😀
Love pork rinds. I try every brand I come across, but I have to say, my dad's home made chicharon is the BEST! My favorite dipping sauce: ACV with minced fresh garlic and crushed fresh Hawaiian chili peppers 😋
I’m an ACV and hot sauce kind of girl!🙌🏽
Thomas, this is by far your best work.
My favorite chiccarones come from the Food City near my house; produced locally. The only downside is you have to eat them relatively fast as they're not filled with additives to preserve their lifespan.
Canadian here. As far as I know, we only have Old Dutch pork rinds and Baken-ettes pork rinds from I think Fritolay. First video of yours I've found. I really am liking your style of presenting all this information!
2024 update: we also carry Chicharon fried pork rinds by Lapid Choice
Canada doesn’t have many choices like in USA in everything 🥲
@@mariehylak8318 Great, now I want pork rinds again 😂
The plain Walmart brand pork skins only have salt as an extra ingredient. I purchased a medium sized bag for $1.48. Tasted pretty good.
00:01 "Welcome!" Cracked me up. 🤣
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love your 'YUCK' face! Thomas, I appreciate the more casual direction that your videos are heading. They're much more approachable. Obviously, we love the science too! Thanks for your content and keep up the great work!
what are you thoughts on putting a hot sauce on the plain pork rinds? and plain are good for guacamole dip instead of tortilla chips.
I love the Baconheir Pork Clouds. Very clean also
The 4505 in the red bag are insanely good. When they have them at Costco I buy like 5 of the HUGE bags.
I get the Macs original plain pork rinds and toss them with browned butter and pure dehydrated cheese powder. Tastes absolutely amazing. Honestly, they are better than any other corn based thing in both flavor and crunch. Handily beats smartfood popcorn or cheese puffs.
Thanks so much! If oils aren’t listed in the ingredients, can it be assumed that the rinds are cooked in their own fat?
Wondered the same thing.
You can always just get the plain pork rinds and season them yourself (maybe add a little oil so it'll stick). I personally like curry seasoning on them. I've also just sprinkled cheese on them and tossed them in the oven. Fantastic. Cheese and meat always go together, no matter the shape of your meat.
Really good video my man, you got a sub here 💯🙏
Love the Max brand...I also use them as a replacement for breadcrumbs. I love them on baked pork chops.
Looks the same as the day after I fast: Opens 10 bags of pork scratchings
I just knew Epic was going to be a finalist. I buy them all the time at Whole Foods.
Salt and vinegar is my favorite savory snack flavor. Blue Diamond almonds are awesome in that flavor. 4505 are pricey, but are the cleanest tasting pork rinds I've ever had. So good.
Where do I get the biodiesel-fried pork rinds? Those sound awesome.
Macs plain in the green bag are my go to. You can also get two large bags in a box in some stores. There is a brand called Mr Porky’s made in Bartlettesville TN that I get at a local grocery that are very good.
Pork rinds have helped me lose over 30 lbs and keep it off. They are my low carb snack of choice.
The Epic Baked w Sea Salt are the best tasting. $16 for a box of 4 bags on Amazon. Tried the 4505s with Sea Salt in a taste-off and they tasted like eating packing peanuts. No flavor at all. Go w Epic - you will not be disappointed.
Worth every penny!
I just love this channel. I've never had pork rinds before.
I love light fluffy pork skins but without fail in every bag of em I buy there's those real hard ones which I hate! If they could make the whole bag be the light and fluffy ones that would be awesome!
Thomas can you use pork rinds for breading instead of bread crums
Aldi has my fave pork rinds!
Clancy's! I like them also, but have not tried many brands. I'm glad Thomas did this video so it's narrowed down.
We finally have an Aldi where I live, I'm so excited because I know that's one of Thomas' favorite places to go - so now I can go look at/buy stuff he recommends from there. :)
And a bag is only 95 cents!!! They are just pork skins and salt. And cooked in their in fat, nothing else added.
Mine as well!
Agreed
Has anyone else EVER bit a chip/pork rind and put it back in the bag?!? CMON MAN! 😆
I would figure he’s going to toss the ones he doesn’t like and finish the ones he does like himself so what difference does it make?
On the picture in the background - Life is too nice, be short....LOVE IT, us shorties will inherit the earth!
I like dipping my pork rinds in apple cider vinegar with some Himalayan salt.
Making your own salt and vinegar - smart!
Amber giving thomas the look while loading the cart 🤨...😂
I really want to try pork rinds. Thanks for the reviews!
I've been enjoying the Mac salt and vinegar pork rinds for some time...when I can find them.
interesting comparison. curious what you think of Utz brand, I've been getting these very cheap and the ingredient list is fried pork skins and salt but doesn't say what they are fried in. I found them at Walmart and they were $7 for two 18 oz tubs.
thanks for doing this! would love to see more keto product taste test videos
You're making me hungry young man. I've been watching your great show for the past year and I can't thank you enough for the great information you provided. From us here in Montana, Steve and Karen.
This is the first time I've seen Thomas eat something
I try to avoid things with maltodextrine. It's one of the main things I look for on labels.
My Top 5 (in no particular order):
-Epic Crackilns. (maple bacon or
jalapeño)
-Southern Batch Spicy Dill(fav flav)
-Epic Baked Him Salt
-Epic S&P (love with guac)
-Macs reg ($ saver/parties/nachos)
Your turn?
Hi Thomas! I love chewing gum , could you do a video on the the best brand that is keto friendly?
Hello, I'm the same, my stepmother who also does keto say sugar free gum is good, I instead use the Listerine pocket Mist spray, it's has No Suger, No Calories and Non aerosol mouth spray. That's I use instead to keep the mouth fresh.
Loved the comparison test! Hope to see more👍
Salt n vinegar is the bomb I put it back last time when at Walmart bcos” of the ingredients will pick up next time I go to Walmart 👍❤️
I buy the Carolina gold nuggets on Amazon. They are like little dried pork chips in it's own oil. You cook them in the microwave. They are firmer (a little hard actually). But they are great for chips, eating and grinding for cooking. They have slightly neutral taste and no stinky smell. I get a big bag and freeze them.
But freezing isn't required.
Macs also makes Golden Cracklins....fried out pork fat with attached skin, salt...$3~$4 for 8 oz bag, so still more economical than the Epic or 4505 but unsure about the quality of pork used. Positive is they are one of the "beefiet" chips and can hold up to pretty much anything you want to dip them in (love them with fresh guac), but have to be careful as you could easily break a tooth!
Hi, I'm new in your channel and I have learned so much, I'm also new to keto and starting a new life stile. my question is, what about the Chicharrones that they make in the Mexicans meat market?
I think I will continue with barrels of Utz pork rinds. I LOVE'em
Spot on with the nutritional content, awesome
Mac's Golden Pork Cracklins butchers cut double cooked at walmart are good. 4.50 bag but good flavor texture.
Porking Good pork rinds are my favorite. They’re super soft and the flavors are really good
I'll always opt for Epic pork rinds over 4505 simply because I don't want that added sugar.
I am going to give keto a try, Jan 1 2021, I love pork rinds, bonus.
Regarding 405 Pork rids, when it went on sale early this year at Costco, I saw a guy with a whole cart full of it. The stuff were literally falling out of his cart.😂
The cashier thinks: " Oh no, do I need to warn the nearest Pig Farm"?
Brims pork cracklin dippers are the best😋😋😋
Pork king pink salt and vinegar. Tastes waaaay toooo good. I can’t control my portion so I can’t buy them anymore 😭
They are fantastic! All of their flavors are awesome! Best pork rinds I’ve ever had.
Is your family waiting outside the car so you can film this ? 😳 “Hang on honey , I’m almost done but watch those cars driving past you “😂😂😂. Totally kidding with you but can say my husband would have never gotten two seconds into the video before I hit him in the head 😂😂😂
No he had on a grey shirt in the grocery store and in the car. Outside the car a red shirt. That was probably an old clip or a generic family in a parking lot clip.
I've replaced popcorn with plain pork rinds drizzled in melted butter and sprinkled with Himalayan salt. Oh my gosh it's good.
😮 That sounds delicious!
Can you do a video on nutritional yeast pros and cons
I think he did that a couple of months ago. I remember him cooking and using it on veggies
That was great have you ever checked out the ones at Sam's club wondering how they are as far as ingredients
I like the spicy ones, who makes the best spicy one?
Just add your own spice.
@@Jj.1897 how do you get it to stick?
@@357Dejavu just sprinkle it all over. Usually the spicy ones sold in stores have crap on them.
Went shopping a few mins ago and bought Epic black pepper. Loved it. Looking for the Al Pastor item though! Thanks for the tip!
Turkey Creek Pork Rinds is amazing too.
4505’s are soooo good. The sea salt flavored ones only have: pork skins, sea salt, rendered fat
Thomas,. I just can't get enough of your videos!!! Thank you for all you do!!!
Love your videos!!! I can always count on you for your honesty and your knowledge on Nutrition!!!
Thank I'm hooked on pork rinds now 😳
Overall good review but FYI MSG isn't any worse for you than salt and you can get it from seaweed and tomatoes.
In fact "tomato powder" on the ingredients for the Krave pork rinds might as well have been MSG.
I used to think pork rinds would be disgusting. Then I bought 2 bags for my sister, who loves them, I tasted 1 (Mac's Salt & Pepper) and I was like WOW! I ate the whole bag. She didn't like the salt & Vinegar and gave them back to me, and I ate that too. Now I'm craving some more like crazy but I'm in Jamaica and they don't sell them here. Ordered some online. Waiting with my mouth watering while I watch pork rind videos on RUclips.
honestly i never ate pork rinds in my life. After watching your vids i bought a bag of the simple and clean variety. pork skins and salt. not bad. im a crunchy snack guy so i would drown myself in simple carbs with this. Usually entire bags of tortilla chips or " healthy" rice crisps. I likw these cause they are cheap. Things like BRADS kale chips are soo expensive. would love to see the top 3 crunchy snacks to eat low carb gluten free
Green peppers turnips napa cabbage🥒🥬🌶🥦🍄🍆🥑🥗 r my going to's lately down 40lbs
If you have a dehydrator (or a lot of time to do it in a slow oven), cucumber chips and zucchini chips are good. You can even flavor them - chili lime, ranch, taco, etc. Then there are always pepperoni chips or cheese chips (like Whisps) that you make yourself. You can flavor the cheese chips any way you like, too, and you can use pretty much any cheese. I’m a fan of parm I grate myself (or if I’m super lazy and willing to close my eyes) Kraft shredded parm in the bag because it’s very finely grated and light and fluffy like when you do it yourself. I just use a McCormick Italian seasoning grater and grate some on the little piles of cheese before baking.
Too many of the flavored ones have maltodextrin or dextrose. I just get the plain and use a keto friendly dip. I grind up most of them for crumbs, anyway.
Thank you for that comparison. Very helpful sir.
Baconets ingredients; pork rinds, salt and lard. From Walmart
That's what I eat 👍
Just go to a mexican meat market and get them freshly made. They taste so good!!
4505 is my go to brand. Costco has the bulk size. But one of the Natural food stores has the different flavors like Jalapeno Cheddar that I really like too! Thanks!
The Epic pork rinds are available at my local warehouse store at a better price. 8 oz for 8.99 versus grocery store 2 5 oz for 3.99 , warehouse store is BJ's on east coast USA
Whau, so many options. And where I live there is none, zero, nill, ZILCH pork rinds available. Would looove to bit on some. 🙏🏻😋
Tossing packages in the back seat...cracks me up!!
4505 is my favorite.
They are so clean tasting. Love them.
4505 in the cheddar jalapeño are delicious! My husband likes the Bake-Ens hot.
