Etta James is my favorite female singer. I just love, love her voice. It sounds like gold. Otis and Etta are 2 of my favorites. I love a lot of them because they bring back so many good memories. I can't get enough of this real soul music. This is such lasting music. I can't imagine what the young people will listen to as they get older😢. Man listen to joe simon, especially when he sings " choking kind". To all ofthos singers nothi gbut love
Joe Simon, who sang the 1972 hit Power of Love and was sampled by hip hop group OutKast, died on Monday December 13, 2021 in his hometown near Chicago, US music magazine Billboard said. Joe Simon's age is cited in several spots as 78 and in others as 85. His 1975 track Get Down, Get Down (Get on the Floor) Simon’s highest entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number eight. Simon was awarded a Grammy in 1970 for best male R&B vocal performance and this year, he was nominated as an inductee in the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.
I have a picture of JOE SIMON and my deceased Mother live in Dothan Ala. I loved him at a young age and I knew he would become a Preacher after hearing him sing, HOLY SPIRIT let me know. I wished I could meet him too.
Beautiful! I discovered Mr. Simon kind of in a different way I guess. I am in my early 40's but have been called an "old soul." Grew up in the Midwest and always preferred "the oldies." Where I came from in the Soul/R&B genre on the 📻 Motown was King. Loved all of the major Motown Artists. Even seen Gladys Knight & Mr. Al Green when I was much younger. I remember hearing "Sitting on the dock of the Bay" & "Mustang Sally" and thinking this is a different sound than Motown...That deep dived me into the Stax/Volt-Atlantic labels. I REALLY LIKED Southern Soul. For a long time Otis Redding was my #1. Artist. Now up through about 2005 I was still keeping up with the modern music. Fast-forward to the Covid: I started deep diving into the old gospel. I knew of "Drowning in the Sea of Love." But my dive into Gospel music got me into Joe Simon. I like (to name a handful) The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Gospelaires, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Rev. Julius Cheeks,The 5 Blind Boys of Mississippi and Alabama, Mahalia Jackson, and Inez Andrews. I have lived in many different places but currently am living in Dothan. I really enjoyed your story. Be Blessed
Powerful there is something religious, something pure and sacred, i love it, that's authentic Soul's Music : Joe Simon is a Legend; he celebrates the miracle of life !!!
Mister Soul Believe it or not, I just found out that he is a preacher and a bishop. He started that back in 1983. He still sounds great after all these years. And, he is a few people that is still around in the soul world. We lost a lot of blues people from death such as Denise LaSalle on 2018 on January 18. The list goes on and on. Well, we all have to go one day. I am glad that Joe is still around with us. I’m very proud that he is now a bishop and a preacher these days.
Another performance from the show The Beat !!! - 1966. Almost the entire series is on RUclips if you give a search. A showcase for known and unknown acts. Lasted only a year though.

The girl in the green is doing a dance called the Pony and the Shen-a-ling. I dont know if I spelled the last dance correctly. It was in the 60s.
Shing-a-ling
She was always the best dancer of the two ladies.
Is that a young Burke family Stairstep at the intro?
