Mr. Joe Simon use to sing 🎤 in nightclubs on the Westside of Chicago and various other music venues. He went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2021. Rest In Power King 👑. 😊💞
One of my mom favorite artist. She has this and many other artists like Jerry Butler on 45. She's the reason I know what real music 🎶 is. Thanks, mom! All love 💘 for mom's! Who else?
Me too c. butler!!! Music my mom and dad grooved to, but as I was growing up I grew to love and groove to music just like this!! I loved it!! But I didn't even know that J Simon was still alive until I ran across the notification..And when I saw his picture on another video, he didn't have any moustache, beard or hair on his face and it made me "draw back" in my mind to visualize him. Then it hit me that he indeed had sported a moustache and beard and then I clearly saw him. A "ohh so cool musical crooner!!" That's what Joe Simon was to me. That voice and his swagger!!" Thanks mom and dad. Condolences and prayers to his family, friends, fans and all who knew of and grew to love mr Simon. Rest easy sir, rest easy. God is good and worthy to be praised? Blessed be the name of the Lord.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Joe Simon, who sang the 1972 hit Power of Love and was sampled by hip hop group OutKast, died on Monday December 13, 2021 in his hometown near Chicago, US music magazine Billboard said. Joe Simon's age is cited in several spots as 78 and in others as 85. His 1975 track Get Down, Get Down (Get on the Floor) Simon’s highest entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number eight. Simon was awarded a Grammy in 1970 for best male R&B vocal performance and this year, he was nominated as an inductee in the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.
I remember this song when I was quite young…It always stayed with me…Some years he Joe Simon became a ordained minister..And passed away some time…Rest Well in Gods arms.
He has pretty eyes. He 70 plus years, and he is still handsome. He has had heart by surgery, and the Lord is still blessing him. I love hearing him sing Amazing Grace. Please look up his interviews. They are amazing.
Joe Simon, the true SOUL SINGER even on a country show where the musicians were a little too up-temple but he made the best of it. THE CHOKING KIND still exist today.
Love all of Joe Simon music he has a wonderful voice I wish 🎶 music to day would sound this great we had the best years of the music ear ever we won't get that anymore we living in a different time we are just passing through y'all stay blessed and enjoy this beautiful music while we are on this side
Initially, even the title of this video is pretty shocking. But when I remember that "The Choking Kind" was written by renowned Country music songwriter Harlan Howard ("Heartaches By The Number," "I Fall To Pieces," "Busted") and that he recorded it for Hendersonville, Tenn. label Monument records (Sound Stage 7), this appearance makes perfect sense. What makes this remarkable is Joe Simon is well aware that he is fronting a country band, the band is well aware that they are backing a soul singer and they all meet in the middle quite nicely.
Since Porter Wagoner was so dang country I'd forgotten that on occasion he would feature non-country singers on his show. Porter once had an all female band. He felt that the 'girl' musicians in Nashville weren't being offered the good jobs. He gave a female singer a chance to be the feature singer on his show against the advice of several folks. That female singer was, as y'all know, Miss Dolly Parton. I now remember that both Joe Simon and Waylon Jennings both recorded this song. Like them both.
First record I heard by Joe was 'step by step' I rushed out and bought the album! he has such a unique deep voice and very soothing.great to see him 'live ' thanx for posting
He is a very handsome man. He is one of my favorite. I have always been a fan. He sound the singing gospel. He is a Christian and a Bishop of the church. He is very dedicate to the Lord.
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing You Tube for sharing this man's music he is still a loving soul of God stay safe and prayed up 🙏 changes everything and people linda j peace ❤️💯🦋🐻 🐻🐻🦋🦋🦋🦋
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my gf for the last couple of days =)
Porter Wagoner don’t get any cleaner but Joe Simon stepped out with that red jump suit brother was clean. This song reminds me of yesteryear when the Jute Joints around America black folks turn old buildings or houses into night clubs. The folks do their drinking and shooting dice and in the background music like this would be playing. LB Dec 8, 2022 Thursday.
If he is 85 when he passed, he must have been born in 1936 & not 1943 like it has been posted. Somebody should pay attention in their arithmetic class !!
About the 4th time I’ve commented on this vid. Porter says ‘ok we will have you back in a minute’ where’s the rest of that? Realised this vid is from ‘81 after Porter had produced Joe Simon’s ‘Glad you came my way’ album which is fab. No it’s not on Spotify or CD.

An interesting combination of soul and country here. A mainstream R and B artist after all on a country show. Wonderful.

Great to see a video of this R&B legend !
The Chokin Kind is a country song joe Simon covered. Amazing how many don’t know that many R&B artists covered country songs !

Amazing stuff dude! Thanks for the back story.
Exactly. There is a lot of undertones here. So well put.
He was more 'Southern Soul' than RnB, which is closer to blues/country genre.
That was cool- His singing voice is deeper than his talking voice!
