Thank you for this - question: as a sports coach, which apps or processes would you suggest to give me the most efficient route of telestrating game film for both our teams' past games & upcoming opponents? Sound is not a priority one way or another
extra tip. i would make a red box on the green image that will match the obs streaming window. This will represent the window to draw in when you have stretched out the window capture.
This is great! Can anyone make this image and then share it? I do not have Adobe software
@@jakehall7124just search Google for green screen color image
High school teacher here. I’ve been wondering what kinds of video editing stuff I could do while we start the new year in distance learning. Thank you so much for another idea! I do a lot of drawing and writing on my white board and this could work well.
If you don't have an iPad (I don't), there are cheap Wacom and Huion graphics tablets (~£50 in the UK), and then you can use AutoDesk Sketchbook or GIMP/Krita to do the same thing without an iPad.
Hi @@dsample
I am a textual content creator but I am slowly moving to graphical content like Infographic and cheatsheet for tech toosl.
Can I make arrows markings and handwritten text to make these stuff more customized on these tablets and softwares you mentioned?
Thanks in advance man!
@@vivekjoshi3769 yes Vivek you can! I hope I'm not too late😊
@@dsample how would you do that?
@@211teitakethose are computer apps. You download them
Love this idea! To help you see what area of your fresco canvas will actually be displayed on screen, I'd add a 16:9 rectangle in a contrasting color (I.e. Red) to your fresco canvas and scale your window capture in OBS so that rectangle is just barely out of frame. This will act as a guide/boundary to draw within. Thanks, Norm!
I did the exact same thing with a streamer friend a few years back for overwatch vod reviews. Great idea, and nicely executed with the ipad!
Excellent video! This is exactly the type of thing I've been looking for.
Very useful indeed and I think I see how one might even put animations into a live stream with a similar process. It would be great to see more of these type of videos! I've enjoyed the channel for years another great video
This is an all in one video on basic controls and how to use OBS, annotation and chroma key! WAY better than all the other videos that teach a skill! 💯👍🏽
You better believe I'm gonna recreate this in Windows Paint.
How'd it go?
The app devs when seeing this, will change the water mark color for sure.
God,I already hate apowermirror as is. Please don't give them any more ideas, lol
You can also use a white chromakey with for example mspaint window.
No doubt.
Yes, whenever my apps get massive free advertising I make it useless to all my potential customers.
Maybe for the next video make a DIY teleprompter to see the drawing while looking at the camera?
Wow thx for showing us that, I was searching a better way than the traditional transparent board we use at university, really good alternative, since a lot of our teacher are working from home also.
This is a really great video! It certainly seems like there are a lot of steps to make this work.
I always thought of doing something like this, but this so clever! Thank you for this!
great tutorial, very clear explained, thank you
really awesome Norm, thank you!
Thank you SO much Norm!
Thanks SO much Adam! I have been looking for a solution to this for a while!!
This is amazing! Thank you!
Very clean setup, I like this a lot. A similar technique could be used with a wacom tablet if that is what you had available.
Thank you for sharing! This is amazing
Another Highschool teacher here! This is really great Norm! Thanks alot!
This is so amazing, might do this one day, thanks !!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you!
Thank you For showing and teaching me How it works and how to install It works perfect
Thanks, you just solved a problem for my video conferences. Very useful.
This tutorial was so cool!
Just working with OBS for my streaming and I also included it into my online pen n paper we do via discord. There is a nice virtual webcam plugin for OBS. And when I get my hands on a tablet I'll definetly try this on our gaming group.
Game changer. Thanks for this 👏🏻
Awesome thanks for sharing!
Very cool idea!
Cool thanks for sharing!
omg! My stream audience is going to love this! YOURE THE BEST! SUbbed
Thanks. Helpful as I work my way into OBS.
Thank you for showing this. I like the basic idea of this. I tried it on my Windows computer using paint OBS and it worked well. If I hooked my digitizing pad up, I would be able to easily annotate using an electronic pen. Or on my laptop screen that is a touch screen. I played around with it and it worked well. I make my green area the exact size of how I have that app shared in my OBS scene so I knew exactly where my boundaries were and I could still get at the controls to change color, pen, draw shape, etc.
Was this all on one PC? Or using one as the drawing tablet and one running OBS?
@@kimisjustokay - This was on 1 computer.
If it's just for annotations, do your eyes a favour, and use BLACK as your background and chroma key...
What if i wanna toughen my eyes?
Awesome video, thanks!!
Great video, thanks
THANK YOU THIS IS SUPER HELPFUL
I have a Windows 2-in-1 tablet laptop, and I (weirdly) had trouble finding an app for Win10 that could draw on a fullscreen image. The desktop version of Photoshop seems to not be very touch friendly, always scrolling with touches instead of painting. In the end, I just coded up a very quick, simple, and dirty HTML5 canvas implementation to run in a fullscreen browser, and that did the trick! Understanding where everything in the frame is relative to the blank green screen is pretty hard for me, though that's probably just my failure of spatial visualization 😂 Nice tip!
Super useful. Thank you
Thank you so much! You are awesome!
Great clear vid. So it looks like you need to use OBS, Mirror software, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Photoshop in order to do this? It's an awesome thing to do but I can't imagine working with such a complex process.
Thanks. It was so useful knowledge.
Thanks for the Video! Helped me
fantastic, thank you 😊
Awesome Norm, cheers! For anyone else trying to get this effect while video editing, say with something like a Wacom all you gotta do is screen record your drawing software (ie Photoshop) with a green background layer which you can then key out in your video editor.
This video is awesome thank you for making it! Can you do all of this and still do picture in picture with a pre-recorded video and be able to draw on it? And did you record this video in that software?
Norm is a national treasure
This should be fun for NFL Play-by-Play style review of videos.
Cool idea!
You could probably also get away with annotating after the fact by running your previously recorded video through OBS in place of your Webcam. Record another window in OBS of your video player and have the Tablet layer overhead. This could solve your "drawing while addressing the camera problem at the cost of another step in editing.
Very clever!
can we setup this to record softwares and draw at the same time?
Cool idea.
Very cool!
How would you go about switching from live feed + live draw over to presenting perhaps a smaller version of you (like in the bottom corner) and then present images / saved video to the feed and live sketch over the pre-compiled assembly?
Would you recommend use of a deck where you can pre-set links?
Cool idea
You're the hero that i dindt think i need it
Thanks for the day man
thank you needed this
Super helpful! ThAnks 😊 I just googled a green background instead of using photo shop since I’m a little adobe illiterate lol
Gonna watch this later. Thanks!
Did you watch it?
hi love these vids you are the cool
Very Cool teaching tool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Brilliant.
Thank you.
very amazing
Nice idea ;)
I did. this by plugging a frame grabber into the iPad. So there was no need for an extra app…
Best regards!
This is awesome! Is it possible to do it in Final Cut Pro?
what software do you recommend me for making simple drawing animations lake this but not in live stream just in previously edited videos.
Do the annotations have to be live? Or can you do them after you film the video?
Awesome!!!
Adam Savage is awesome
Also everyone on le channel
What about formalized text? Graphic inserts? or even inserts of slideshow type feeds?
Do you have to have the greenscreen or could you just use a colorless see through alpha channel?
Awesome video! Two Questions. 1) Do you know of a way to use OBS the record drawing-on-screen WITHOUT it being live? Recording over a pre-existing video and saving the drawing portion as an alpha channel? 2) and secondly: how do you save (through OBS) an export of the drawing that was done on the video?
Assuming you're trying to do this all in a PC with something like a Wacom and not an iPad, the method is pretty similar - In Photoshop (or whatever drawing programming you're using) set your background layer to green, capture your screen with OBS or another screen capturing software, do your drawing, then in your video editor use a chroma key to remove the green background.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Works perfectly with Reflector 3 (instead of Apower) and Procreate on iPad as well. Could you share the specs of your computer? On my 2017 MBP the framerate is a bit choppy.
Were you actually able to do a Window Capture in OBS using Reflector 3? If so, how did you do it? With Reflector 3 I had to do a Display capture (my computer screen) as the Window capture would not work.
Thanks for the video. I am using OBS for webinars and was trying to use a cam and pad but like your idea better. I have set up my ipad and connected to obs via a video screen capture so can see the scene element with ipad, loaded the A power mirror but lost here. You said you choose power mirror but this is where i got lost can you help as I have the ipad connected in scene but not sure how power mirror works between laptop and ipad? thanks
I currently do this on the iPad Pro, but I would like to know if there are any devices with less lag. I think there's about 1000-2000ms lag. Any ideas? Also, I've tried Wacom tablets and they seemingly have less latency, but I think they might take more getting used to for actual writing (my writing doesn't look good).
My brain hurts now omg ! So much stuff to know
Thanks
I have a final power point presentation and was wondering how do you highlight parts of the image and then switch to a different part?
Thumbs up for the intro theme
Great!
Man just early early today
Good video, might have to try an adjusted version with my hardware switcher. But it is amuse me how you kept mentioning free software.... then used Photoshop to just turn the background green 😜. Maybe could have kept free and used GIMP, or can’t the Adobe sketch software change its paper colour?
good content
I hope you keep update :)
What if I'm trying to draw on some form but have to be very precise in my placement? I have this setup but I ran into issues with trying to draw over items because my pen was off. Is there a way to capture the image you're trying to draw onto on the ipad?
Now we can finally do Videoball play-by-play commentary the right way!
I wonder if you don't have a tablet if you could use the Windows Gaming capture thing to pipe a Microsoft Paint window or such into OBS.
Thanks for the video, I would need some help. I have a simple Wacom device without a screen and need to draw in MS Paint (or some other Windows app). Is it possible to use your way to annotate video, which I need to pause? The problem is that once I start drawing in MS Paint, OBS gets inactive and I am not able to pause the video without alt-tabbing.
Superb
To help with looking at the camera and drawing you could set up a teleprompter
Yeah that guy on Khan academy does this too!!!
I thought he just draws straight up in software. Does he do webcams now?
@@zargle5924 yeah he webcam but webcam is black
Mr. Catpants ummm so you mean he’s just in photoshop using a drawing tablet

Any idea of how to add virtual pencil📝 to looks like your drive you back of you screen?
PS: the pencil may appear(zoom in) when you actually touch the screen.
Hey, is there a way to draw on an iphone no matter what app is being used on the iphone or even no app at all (draw on the home screen for example)? I'd like to draw on the iphone while showing my process of editing images on Snapseed (while I'm screen recording). Thanks!
I can not find Adobe Fresco as an app available for my IPhone 8.
Can you change the background to white when drawing or annotating? As if it where a digital white board?
Hi!
Is it possible to make moving arrows in ipad?
I want to make infographics in ipad using drawing arrows & adding annotations to them to create illustrated images to make content.
So, I also want to know if any ipad would do or I have to buy ipad pro for these rrquirements ?
