Jill, I can appreciate your story so much. I had a husband who had a mid life temper tantrum and left me and our five girls. He’s “moved on” seamlessly but the hurt and emotional scars continue on. I am
Grateful to God for being with me every step of the way. I lived heavily on prayer and the Book of Proverbs.

Please don't apologize for mentioning your books every chance you can get. I bought Penny Pinching Mama several years ago and even though I am no longer in debt, I re-read it often as inspiration to be creative in living well frugally. In fact, I think it would be good if you mentioned Patreon a little more. I signed up for Patreon and think it is well worth it. It's a small price for the savings I get if I use even one tip or dinner idea month. I used recipes from Dining on a Dime when my grand-daughter was born and I wanted to make several dinners for my daughter and hubby to be able to pull out of the freezer. The month before the baby came, I made double batches - we ate one and I froze the rest for them. At the end of the month, I had spent less money than normal on groceries even though I had been cooking for two families! You guys deserve anything you can make from viewers who benefit from your experience, videos and books.

It was so much fun meeting and visiting with you too. It was so funny the way we kept running into each other. I don't know who was stalking who. :) Hope you are having good luck with getting your projects made. I have been looking at those microwave bowls and thinking about trying to make one because they look like they might be really handy to use. Anyway so glad you popped in to say hi. Thanks for watching. : )

I stumbled on your channel yesterday and binge-watched all day long. This Penny Pinching Mama series really grabbed me and when I realized I had to wait for more episodes I nearly threw my computer across the room! I was raised in a similar situation (without quite as much drama) with similar values and penny pinching methods, so this story really rings my memory bell. I'm still very much a make-do-and-mend person. Your observations about people selfishly putting themselves first is so spot on. That describes most of my friends. I can't tell you how many times they justify using that credit card with, "I deserve it." Yeah well, you deserve that mountain of debt too. I think a lot of it is that they can't tell themselves "no" because nobody ever told them "no." It's all about instant gratification and never about that wonderful sense of satisfaction for earning, setting goals, saving up and finally acquiring something you planned for. Keep on preaching!

Our family made a commitment, three ago, to each other to give only gifts that we have made with our own hands. Not only have we saved a TON of money, but we are more thoughtful about the gifts that we give and also more grateful for the gifts that we recieve

This series has put me through the gamut of emotions, and it has been so important. I've learned so much and have been encouraged during a time when I really need to hear your stories. Much love to you all! And thank you for your "tough love" to all of us along the way, too.

So enjoying this series, too. We were so in debt, too. Took us eight years to get a grip on finances. He always asks how do people afford nice cars and houses. I tell him that they owe it all and they can't just stop working if they want. After 30 plus years, you can come home (he wasn't doing well physically), because we don't have that sort of debt anymore.

This story kind of reminds me of my ex husband and his father. The stuff they pulled was selfish and people did get hurt. I am sharing your story with my ex husband's mother. We get along like a mother and daughter. It will validated more of what we went through. My ex was one of those people who would buy expensive toys with tax money and then blame me for our debt. I wish I could have heard your story in 2011 when my ex husband's selfishness sent him to prison and left me with our four children in a town of 1800 people, half who hated me for what my ex did. Thank You. Can't wait for next installment.

My single Dad was a factory worker. We always knew when Dad was "laid off". We'd come home from school and he was putting away TONS and TONS of groceries. He was raising 4 hungry kids back then! Love this show as much as the past 10 or is this #12!? LOL!

omgoodness Jill your life is truly a soap opera and everytime a segment ends I'm screaming NOOOOOO what happens next!
I have thought about your words so many times during my own craziness with my separation and think MINES BAD BUT JILL WAS WORSE.....so thankful your doing this because it truly seems it's done just for me and I love your advice from a hindsight point of view and a Christian point of view.
    Thank-you again!

I got a kick out of your comment Billy because Tawra always says that her life in the kitchen is the best example for what people are not suppose to do and now I can say my life is an example of how much worse things could be.
: ) :) Seriously though thank you for your comment. In one strange way it makes everything I went through worth it if it will help others at least. I love our regulars on here because you guys are all so encouraging.

Love you guys so much! Thanks for your story! We went through some similar things when I was young, but my mom was pregnant with her 9th child, we were living in below zero blizzards in Canada then, and all the kids went through mumps and measles one by one, with two young brothers having bronchial asthma often in dual oxygen tents in the hospital. God helped us survive, and He,as well as Mom,gave us a strong faith and work ethic!

We were lucky because it only leaked in the dining room in two spots. Depending on the wind it would choose one place or the other. We got it fixed now (only took 3 years to save the money) and now we are saving to replace the moldy sagging ceiling. LOL Maybe next year we can have it repaired. We have some friends that will help us but we have to have the money for the supplies.

I feel compelled to comment, I felt horrible after this segment, being widowed last year at 28, a year after having our daughter and starting college. I have considered bankruptcy. I don't want to do it but there are certain life circumstances that make you have no other choice and it makes one feel like a failure to have to do it, so being so harsh about "stealing money" really threw me off.

    • @LivingOnADime
      @LivingOnADime  8 лет назад +1

I'm very sorry for your loss. We aren't talking about people who legitimately have to claim bankruptcy. But if you are paying for your daughters college and not her when that money could go to pay the bills then in that case it would be stealing.
If you are doing everything you can to pay the bills, your daughter is responsible for her bills (college tuition, car bills etc. you can let her live at home) then of course that would be a situation where you legitimately can't pay them without your husband's income and I see nothing wrong with that.

I love you all! But your generalization of "selfish people" is not accurate. I was married to a drug addict who was in and out of jail and rehab for most of the 7 years we were together. He refused to really work on our marriage. So when our daughter was 2 years old, I decided that the healthiest thing for my daughter and me was to leave the marriage. It was, to this day, the hardest decision I ever made. And my adult daughter now realizes this. I did a very selfish thing to save the life and sanity of 3 people.

    • @LivingOnADime
