I buy most of my tools from Harbor Freight because of the price and warranty. Warranty is everything so you only buy it once and I've only had to warranty a couple of tools over several years. Icon tools are great never had any problems. Great video thank you
Agreed. I’ve had issues with some of their lower quality stuff over the years but no issues with icon thus far. And if I do I have to their super easy warranty process. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻
I bought the 3/8 low profile 90 for 20 in the box on marketplace. I bought it as a joke, most of my ratchets at the time were tekton. I have litterally beat the hell out of it put cheater bars on it, used it on lugs. Its still works perfect. It's It's very good ratchet especially for the price
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Glad to see it’s been a solid investment thus far. 👍🏻
You’re an abuser😢
Its pretty good. Two years and not a hiccup.
@@bkonefeather that’s great 👍🏻
I actually think Quinn is much better....a Lot less back-drag & $10-$15 cheaper‼ You should review the Quinn especially in comfort grip.
Thanks for the comment. It’s on my radar.
The Quinn is a hf branded copy of the gearwrench 90
@@timweb1510 correct.
Great, very comprehensive review. HF has a sale for 40% off all Icon ratchets for the next 4 days. Your thoughts on the best 3/8" and 1/2" to purchase in Aug 2024?
@@justinvanaulen2478 I am unaware of this sale. Have a link? However I prefer the longer handle flex wrenches as of late. They all should be the same mechanisms so it’s really just preference
@@ThingsMenthe 40% is the first thing that pops up on thier website
@@kirbytheap found it thanks.
Did he buy? Wanted to save up for Kokens but for $26.. I bought the 1/2 inch to give it a try.
@@cybergrindin that’s still a good buy. 👍🏻
Good video - thanks for the info. I've had hit or miss experiences with the ICON brand, although I havent tried any of their ratchets yet. If they make a LOCKING flex 1/4 or 3/8 long handle, I will be all over it though.
They don’t make a locking one yet sadly. Hopefully soon. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻
Yes they should I bought a 3/8 and it good. If it messes up take it back get a new one. That's good deal. But yus it for what is for. Locking flex head is next I hope. I don't need snap on. Or Mac or took truck. Tools that's for the old school influencers. Just use the tool what it's mad for and it gets the job done. You save your hard earned money.
You don't need a snap on to change a alternator or battery
Old school craftsman is bad ass. If you have that's all you need
Low back-drag is where it's at for me. Tooth count is a gimic now, if it really mattered every manufacturer would be investing in gearless ratchets. Personally i invested in a few ratchets, i found that you dont need every model under the sun. I do have alot of ratchets, most dont get used 😅. The icon is a good ratchet, the drag is just meh. Ive since moved to a koken 72t zeal, the drag on in is insanely low.
The Koken is very nice. I just reviewed mine 72 tooth. Feel free to check it out. The Icon isn’t bad at all either. I think after breaking in it will be pretty good. 👍🏻
I picked up an ICON long 3/8 flex head with comfort grip. Right out of the box the flex joint has a little slop. I tried tightening the screw to no avail. I think Advance Auto's Die Hard ratchets are a better value at $35. The ratchet mechanism is smoother than the ICON and has less back drag from the get go. Die Hard also has a bent handle version. I call the ICON the IGOTCONNED.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Think about warrantying your faulty ratchet?
@@ThingsMen It's not bad enough to affect the ratchet's operation. I want to get some time on it. If it gets worse I'll see if I can warranty it. If the ICON ratchets were packaged like the Pittsburgh I could have inspected it before purchase and tested another.
At this price point.. Capri has best quality. I wonder if new Milwaukees are better
@@cybergrindin I think they are all relatively close.
But Harbor Freight has the Icon ratchets at 40% off right now. So that $45 comfort grip ratchet is now $27.
I made a mistake of buying two icon ratchets, I don’t like the backdrag and quality for the price. I made a mistake buying the harbor freight junk
Thanks for commenting. What would you replace them with in that price range?
@@ThingsMengearwrench would be a much better choice, I would even do Husky over icon
@@ThingsMenagreed! Gearwrench is unbeatable in that price range.
@@timweb1510 nah I have both but I love Icon Ratchets they are my favorite and the gear wrench I only got the whole collection because I get them for free with the loophole
@@davehaggerty3405when on sale or in a set sir, yes. I got the 120xp button locking flexhead 1/4 for $32 shipped. The small sets used to be on sale far more often than recent
