I answered " Yes"

Yeah, the word Q is usually used in a good way. My personal feeling is that in Taiwanese it tends to mean bouncy more than chewy or rubbery. As for food overcooked, we don't use hard in Taiwanese. There is a word 韌 (not sure if it's the right character, but it carries the similar meaning as in Mandarin), pronounced as 潤, which means exactly the bad kind of rubbery. Also, for those who are not native Taiwanese speaker, be careful when you say beef in Taiwanese. Don't mix it with "turtle meat".

I just started my Hokkien (minnan) channel. It impressed me you two westerners speak much better than the local Hokkien at my hometown. Our slangs with Taiwanese are much different. You May have a look when you’re free :)

A friendly note:
'Kiâm-tok-tok' would actually not mean 'savory'. Savory has a positive connotation whereas kiâm-tok-tok does not. Kiâm-tok-tok means it's overly salted. In other words, it's wayyy too salty. Hence, it would not be wise to use that comment to compliment a savory dish.
Possible ways to describe that the food is savory may be 'tse bī kài-hó' or 'tse tsin-hó bī.'

台語還有分文音跟白音，可以多看布袋戲，可以從布袋戲學文音，哈哈哈哈哈～（阿勇好帥
應該是講漢字有白讀、文讀音，毋是台語。若直接用白話字寫台語，無chit種差別。(當然白話字mā會當寫所謂「文讀」ê音...)

@@AiongTaigi 來台語合漢語作切割。通常是較教會派兮觀點。但在吾傳統信仰，就是有河洛神明、河洛易、河洛道、陰陽五行八卦等等、傳統信仰者（非教會教徒、非羅馬字使用者）來講。毋管稱作台語、抑者是號作閩南話、福建話。攏是來自河洛話。既然是河洛話。就有白話音、文讀音。白話音、文讀音，就是本族群自古以來之語言系統。無咧分啥屬於漢語、啥毋是台語。
在台灣。所謂台語族群其實有幾款認同，因為是來自無共族群。一、河洛認同。二閩南認同。三、羅馬認同。四、南島認同。一般若教學偏教會羅馬系統。大部分族群是平埔部落、或福佬客、或客家參平埔部落通婚後裔。
另外像我祖輩阿公是彰化漢學先生。吾家族自古以來全是信仰河洛神道Taoism/Daoism。觀念認同參羅馬教會是有分別兮。對語言看法及定義範圍抑有無共款看法。當然現此時，台語語言教育界。因為政府、政黨背景支持，以教育羅馬字教育系統為首。推送甚積極。聲勢較大。但在語言使用族群上。河洛傳統者抑是佔大數。傳統廟宮環境下之用語，畢竟比西方教會保守環境來講，更加活巧、歷史亦有加久。建議可加接觸非教會羅馬派觀點。以對台語族群、合語言史觀兮識捌。更加全面。

若咱顛倒用漢語、台語，來區分咱語言語音詞彙，咱等於來原本屬於咱个己語言定義割讓與別人。
較保守兮羅馬派，有ㄧ款想法，卜來台語行向越南化，是甚明顯兮。越南人用後來拉丁文字，完全切割古早歷史合文字，造成現代越南人看無先人所用文字。韓國語言文字教育亦是共款。除了身分證名字為避免同音字，無廢除漢字標示以外，韓國人亦共款與傳統文化文字愈來愈遠。
文音或書面用辭，是知識層在不同聚落溝通、書面紀錄、或國家政治治理中、甚至文藝創作作詩作文中，自然形成衍伸紀錄兮方式。其文明進展過程中，所衍伸詞彙組合當然更多元。白話音除了是上早期庶民直接生活用語以外，抑有書面文辭轉語言時，簡化聲母、簡化韻母、連音、變音、變調、懶音現象。全是自然發展過程。故無應該任意切割文音、白音語言是歸屬漢語或台語，甚至詞彙族群屬性亦更不應該切割。
語言若欲更加現代化、發展化、包容性。愛像海綿吸收消化。而非切割。用歷史時間、地理區域作切割。傷過硬性定義啥是台語音、台語詞、台語文。只是會與台語更加僵化。台語應該是有歷史傳統性、超越地域侷限。宜蘭漳音、鹿港泉音、既然亦屬於咱語言、澎湖、金門亦共款。包容範圍愈大。語言愈有性命、愈豐富、愈會得著認同。
英國、美國、加拿大、澳洲、紐西蘭、南非、新加坡、印度，我想英文系統是包容，無咧分區域。quarantine是英文、Sushi是英文、tea是英文。共款道理。
尤其河洛字/漢字，是東方文字基礎。推廣語言，若堅持去切割河洛字/漢字方案。等於來自己語言隔絕於現實環境之下。畢竟台語絕對無可能脫離河洛字單獨存活。
吾河洛認同者，從來無排斥羅馬拉丁字，但普遍遇著羅馬字派，煞非常排斥河洛字。茲款觀念只是與台文縛在羅馬教會宣教印象中爾爾。
河洛字、羅馬字。應互相幫襯。相輔相成。傳統不可切割。拉丁字母可記音。甚至有人用ㄅㄆㄇ注音，只要有法度予絕大數眾人隨接受。無縫接軌。亦可。只要對保存語言有利。攏是好代。樂觀其成才是。
I am really curious about your educational background and what motivates you to learn Taiwanese? Many young generation nowadays don't know how to speak it, which is a bit sad. I speak Taiwanese with my parents and grandparents, they are my best teachers. Especially my mom, she has a ton of words and sentences to describe how unhappy she is lol.

And like you said, many new words/expressions just pop out in these decades in Taiwan in the Mandarin speaking context. So that only like those with C2 level in Taiwanese can deal with these new expressions. It's a bit like the process of translation or interpretation. And unfortunately there are really not so many people now still keep their C2 level in Taiwanese.

Regarding your note about -eng at 4:00. I suppose you mean that its proper transcription is [iə̯ŋ], not [iŋ]. Is [iə̯ŋ] the only "proper" pronunciation? Bite-size Taiwanese's chart says that [iŋ] is northern pronunciation whereas [iə̯ŋ] is southern pronunciation. Bernhard Fuehrer and Co. don't even give the variant [iə̯ŋ], they only give [iŋ]. By the way, it looks like northern (w.r.t to China, not Taiwan) Mandarin dialects have [iə̯ŋ] where southern Mandarin dialects have [iŋ]: labfon.letras.ulisboa.pt/LabPhon16/files/workshop/se-3-abstracts/006.pdf
Another more theoretic question (feel free to ignore it): is "iə̯" considered a diphthong? You don't have it in the Phonics series, so I suppose it's not. But why? I guess the "non-syllabic mark" tells us that native speakers perceive "iə̯" as one sound, but isn't it exactly the characterization of diphthongs?
Both pronunciations are fine, the "io" pronunciation is "prestige". I'm pretty sure it's in the phonics series. It's a diphthong, but a monograph not a digraph, probably in single vowels video.
It should really be written "io", but "iok/iong" is used for "io͘k/io͘ng".
I have a question. What source do you use to translate directly from English to Taiwanese?
There are at least 2 good dictionaries (Maryknoll and Embree), both of which are available on chhoe.taigi.info.
There are also a few textbooks around, some in print and the Maryknoll series is again free online:
