  • Get ready to dive into the enigmatic world of Gary Taubes!
Meet the fearless investigative journalist who's unraveling the mysteries of nutrition:
Gary Taubes, the captivating storyteller and co-founder of Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI.org), is here to ignite your curiosity with his thought-provoking works like "The Case Against Sugar," "Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It," and "Good Calories, Bad Calories."
Recognized with the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award and adorned with accolades like the International Health Reporting Award, Taubes is a trailblazer in health policy research.
Armed with degrees from Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia, he's on a relentless quest to uncover the truth hidden beneath layers of misinformation.
Now, let's unravel the captivating revelations:
Taubes' journey began with a quest to understand salt's impact on blood pressure, leading to the discovery of questionable evidence behind the "low-salt" diet hypothesis.
Digging deeper, he exposed flaws in research on "low-fat" diets, linking them to the obesity epidemic, which was exacerbated by surging sugar consumption.
Taubes stumbled upon unpublished clinical trials on the Atkins diet, revealing its potential in weight management and heart health, challenging conventional wisdom.
Gary's findings stirred controversy, shedding light on the challenge of questioning established medical beliefs and the importance of scrutinizing existing data.
In "The Case for Keto," Taubes emphasized the need for personalized nutrition and questioned the one-size-fits-all dietary recommendations that don't consider individual uniqueness.
Taubes dove into the intricacies of scientific inquiry, emphasizing the difficulty of discerning causation from observation, especially in nutrition.
He urged us to move beyond mere associations and focus on measurable data like blood sugar levels, blood pressure, mood, and energy to gauge the true impact of our diet on our health.
So, what's the secret to unlocking the mysteries of nutrition? Join Gary Taubes as he challenges the status quo and embarks on a journey of discovery!

I doubt there will ever be another person like Gary Taubes, a person who follows every piece of research, investigates the quality of each piece of research and reports on what he actually finds, not what is politically or "at the moment academically correct". A true scientist and a true investigative reporter. Thank you for all the hard work you have done.

Plus the universities have been churning out so many masters and phds, there is an entire paper mill industry. The scandals there are pretty shocking-reusing and relabelling alleged data, faked data, etc. Never have i seen so many phds walking😊 around. The quality has gone down now that phd seems to be mainstream, like buying high end professional ranges for the kitchen....

Gary's first book was my bible for many years. But I drifted away from Low Carb until recently when I heard that people were taking drugs to produce the same effect as eating a low carb diet. This was a confirmation again of the hormone hypothesis which the drug industry and others could make money from. You can take pill, not be hungry because it affects your hormonal responses and how fat is stored and released. So if a Keto diet does the same you would think the health field would admit their mistake about low carb/high fat. Nope. Just keep eating sugar and starches and take a pill that will make billions for doctors and drug manufacturer's. For me, it was simply yet another convincing piece of evidence that my weight and health would be improved by a low carb, high fat diet. I have been back on it for only a month and I am following time restricted eating (11 to 7) and I am never hungry. And the combination has resulted in no snacking, two meals of protein and veggies with olive oil and apple cider vinegar on salads and avocado oil for cooking. Gonna have my blood work done in three months to see the effects.

    "What We Don't Know"
I agree that we currently don't a have good stable of studies on the long term result (effect on longevity) of addressing health and medical conditions by diet versus other treatments.
But in the absence of that specific knowledge, one can still make an educated guess by looking to similar or related information. And there is a lot of information that getting rid of certain health or disease markers will result in benefits including longevity. Now, does it make a difference whether you get rid of those markers by diet or by medical intervention?
That is full circle to what we want to find out but intuitively either it should not matter or, if anything, diet should be better that using medical intervention if they achieve the same result (get rid of a marker) ye one waymakes you feel better than the other.
Separately - we know NO HUMAN BODY will live forever and if you think your purposes can be fulfilled better by feeling better then that weighs on the side of using diet rather than medical intevention.
Yes, we each have purposes to fulfill - and that is the most important information you can ever find.
