    Taubes is exactly right, as usual. And the observation that the authorities have been prescribing by hypothesis (rather than evidence) is spot on. This hypothesis has been adopted with vice-like commitment by authorities because, essentially, it has the ultimate goal of making the human fit the food supply. And, as pointed out, there are some people that seem to tolerate the current food supply (presumably while keeping sugars and oils in check, ie, cooking at home). Privileged people of socioeconomic means (eg, Pollan, Gladwell, many medical doctors) evidently have the required phenotype to tolerate a whole-foods, predominantly plant diet, without getting sick. However, this simply isn't true for everyone. Yes, we simply have to acknowledge this latter point. Furthermore, there are people who can appear healthy by remaining lean on the "real food, mostly plants" diet but are still getting sick (insulin resistant, diabetic, prone to cancer) on the inside.

    I don't know if Taubes is correct or not but he is at least using scientific method. He is the one who compiled the metadata that scientifically refuted a half century of almost universally accepted false hypothesis. Too bad Nusi didn't hit it out of the park on its first try but they at least put their hypothesis to the test. I want Taubes to be influencing the direction of nutrition research because he's using logic over emotion. More insulin related research would be very helpful.

    • @miloice74
      @miloice74 3 года назад

      Diets fail because we look at food to eat and avoid and not the reasons we overeat. We are driven by our preferences in food choices that makes our body sick, suppresses our leptin sensitivity and drive our appetite up. We overeat because we are hungry. Hunger is an instinct. There is nothing wrong with the advise to consume more vegetables and fruits. Its rich in fibre and nutrition and good for our bodies. The public awareness of constant insulin spike is damaging our metabolism and screwing our energy systems is equally important. It is not an either or option. Bith are important knowledge in our food choices.

    I think LCHF advocates underestimate the emotional and spiritual influence of ethical vegans/vegetarians on the messaging. Underlying the subsumed buy-in so many people have to the idea of a plant-based diet is the idea that there is a moral deficit in consuming animal products, especially eating animal flesh. And ESPECIALLY “cute” animals: cows, deer, sheep/lamb, and the like.

    • @CatsLivesMattter
      @CatsLivesMattter 4 года назад +1

      Why do they call keto non sustainable? I've never eaten better in my life, certainly not when vegetarian and certainly not on cal restriction where I had binge fests pretty often. I am not so much overweight but have been a sugar addict since childhood and cannot lose this stubborn 25lbs I got on because of meds. Not cal restriction and 2h of gym (weight and cardio) 5x per week did anything for the weight, now 6 weeks in I lost 9lbs (I did cheat during Christmas so this hindered my progress, got back on asap and I feel awesome). No sugar cravings AT all. If I make a keto dessert, once piece and I am done. Before I could eat a whole cake to myself to get the high.

The skinny girl at school had almost the whole package of cream cheese on her bagel. I looked at it so confused because in the 90s we were told fat was bad. He didn’t talk about the inverse of insulin , glucagon. This liver residing hormone is instrumental in helping breakdown of FFAs. Insulin goes down glucagon goes up. The main reason the failing diets are promoted is money! There are so many vested interests in keeping us unhealthy. Food, pharmaceutical, medical , nursing homes, and government population control all have a hand.
    Every dollar spent on population control is worth ten dollars on climate change. Fewer people less energy required. Take out the 0-5 year old from life expectancy statistics and we are dying sooner than 200 years ago. 0-5 year olds benefit from better sanitation from 200 years ago. With the advent of AI to company profits people are now superfluous except as consumers. Sick people are less likely to revolt. Follow the money!

    I have reservations about Taubes saying that "we" (the overweight and diabetic people) get fat and sick eating the same diet as "them" (lean and fit people).
    Honestly, i never saw someone who was overweight without over eating, whether it's fast/processed food, or even what would be seen as healthier but in bigger quantities; plus drinking regularly, if not daily, soda drinks and alcohol.
    CICO maybe not the only thing to take into account but it's still holds value. Overeat your meats and nuts and you will maintain your weight or gain some. I understand the benefits of Low-carbs for glycemic reasons butt he weight loss part is where i disagree.
    Can anyone really tell me that they, or someone they know, got overweight and sick by having a healthy diet ? I've been looking at a crapton of videos for the past two weeks of Taubes, Fung, Noakes, Cywes and others, about keto, LCHF and the benefits of saturated fat. But remember that even they are selling something, like a book. The appeal is that what they're telling us is kind of novel and new and unorthodox. But like anyone else, they're showing us what they want to, the positive research and numbers.
    I was in my twenties at max. 122kg and diagnosed with T2 diabetes. I am 35 and weight 73kg. I got fat because i ate so much of everything. Maybe my phentoype is like the one he describes but clearly what i ate would damage any phenotype for sure.
    What i'm saying is ALWAYS take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, have some doubt. I'll keep looking at his videos and think they're great but some parts i'm having trouble agreeing with.

    Genetics and personality (open, outgoing) play a role, making some people struggle with excess weight in the modern environment of high calorie density foods. But if they are only able to eat foods under 700 calories a pound, (veggies, beans, whole grains, fruit) over time they will have an ideal bmi, they just need to maintain it for the rest of their life, in the modern food environment and with all the social pressures it is a challenge for agreeable, open, extroverts...
