  • The last two weeks has seen 3 new MCDU hardware units become available for flight simmers wanting to gain that extra bit of immerson. This is the final one to be released and also, the most expensive - The WingFlex MCDU unit. This is the one i've most been looking forward to seeing and testing out, but will it be worth the high price tag when their competitors offer very similar, for much less. Lets find out!

    It is obviously a great product. But I really struggle to think that any flight sim hardware companies will be able to compete with the incredible price that WINWING have set for their MCDU. £500 is a extremely heavy price (I know the product is brilliant) but most simmers just can’t afford this or aren’t willing to pay this price of course. Either way thanks for the review and looking forward to more streams!

    I just received my Wingflex MCDU and flew with it last night for the first time. It’s a solid product. Yes it costs, but I have been around long enough to remember that the only way to have realistic gear was project magenta and manual building and coding. Not for everyone, but it’s solid.

    As usual a fantastic video and what appears to be a great product. I mostly fly Airbus, but on some occasions I fly the B737. So the obvious choice for me was the PU Korea Air unit, that allows me the opportunity to interchange. Not having to rely on the virtual FMGC/FMC is fantastic, which boosts the immersion. I suspect that the immersion at a more affordable cost will be the choice for most simmers, but I could be wrong. Winwing gets my vote also. Love the scientific calculator DaveHudson70 lol!!! Great videos Easyjetsimpilot.

    I would if I could but the missus would kill me if i spent that much. I have ordered the Winwing MCDU for £129 and even then I had to tell her it's a scientific calculator for work 🤫

    I think the discussion surrounding this vs. the cheaper alternatives is relatively simple; it's a case of the law of diminishing returns. I would estimate 90% of flight simmers purchase this kind of hardware less for it's absolute accuracy, and more for the convenience of no longer needing to interact with rotary knobs or small buttons and switches with the mouse. That's where the vast majority of the incremental immersion comes from. Past that, the fact the buttons/text/lighting/size aren't 100% on point is almost irrelevant, as most of us will never sit in a real cockpit to know the difference. It's like paying 200% more for 5% improvement in experience. I'm not thinking 'oh, I wish the font was exactly like the real thing'. I'm thinking 'Wow! I don't even need to move the camera in the cockpit to do this stuff now!'

    • @mdhazeldine
      @mdhazeldine 13 дней назад

      Exactly. It's actually around 400-500% higher price, so even less worth it than you said. If there was some massive gotcha with the Winwing, like it didn't support a popular plane, or it started falling apart or the buttons were horrible to use, then fair enough, but I've heard nothing but praise for it so far.

  • @kickoff3312
    @kickoff3312 11 дней назад

    Well, I think that the screen is fantastic but I think that the advantage is having the option to place it as the right or left unit of the cockpit. Indeed this option seems not possible for the two other MCDUs, correct ?

    I noticed on the rear this unit requires a 5 Volt 1Amp supply from the USB port which appears to be in excess of the available current (0.5-0.9 Amps). It may be wise to use a powered USB hub with sufficient power available.

    I like it. Higher quality. Given I have the Winwing EFIS units and MCP, I can't get the MCDU because of WinWing technical website issues. I am strongly considering this Wingflex product. The money is not my issue at all. I like it.

      Changed my mind, I don't pay for equipment, especially from overseas and expect to wait 90+ days for the product. When it's more than in stock and available, I may reconsider. Also, their website in the US is horrible, even their data is outdated for supply and demand and posting dates. I'll wait.

  • @GeorgeLumkin
    @GeorgeLumkin 14 дней назад

    I think it’s good that there is competition, it’s going to really drive development of good products and ultimately sift out the bad ones because people will vote with their wallets.
    Different companies that offer for people with different budgets an ecosystem of products will probably come out on top. Wingflex looks great, too rich for my blood but I’m sure people will like it who want a high quality realistic unit.
    Looking forward to companies moving onto the next areas of hardware at competitive prices, I can’t wait for winnings audio, transponder and radio panels, and I’m hoping we see some more options for overhead panels, airliner throttle quadrants etc etc.

    I have had the MCDU from WINWING for 3 months and have not regretted what I paid for it although this clearly depends on individual circumstance. The rubber buttons are my only complaint but this is far outweighed by the ease of setup including a single USB and no HDMI cable. To be able to input your MCDU during flight without changing the monitor view alters the whole sim experience and in my case means I use ,and understand, the MCDU more than I did pre purchase.

    I have the Winwing MCDU on Pre-order. Very disappointed that it is not going to be available for greater than 45 days (what does that mean ??? 10 years is greater than 45 days !!!). However, £500 is too steep for me, so I will be giving this one a miss. What is a real MCDU keypad made of ??

    • @Easyjetsimpilot
      @Easyjetsimpilot  13 дней назад +2

      The buttons are plastics.. And a little shiny 😁

    • @WayneByrne-hs3pz
      @WayneByrne-hs3pz 13 дней назад

      @@Easyjetsimpilot I suppose it is cheaper and easier to manufacture an entire MCDU button set on a rubber membrane, than it is to manufacture an individual hard plastic cap matrix. Winwing MCDU keypad is also rubber, (I believe also with the indent on the top of the keys). We have moved a long way from my FS2 days. Spoilt for choice when it comes to constructing your own home cockpit. Exciting times folks.

    With world economy in doldrums, i think it is not wise to spend money on any of the sim hardware.. Ultimately it's a sim and we can never bring it as close as to a real one. This is my view. Others might have a different opinion.
