    Devin Hester was long overdue for HOF induction. I'm a Bear's fan and I enjoyed other teams kicking to him and most of the time seeing him bring it all the way back. This infuriated opposing coaches so much because practically all of the time, they had no choice but to kick it to Devin. We went to the Superbowl and Devin returned the opening kick-off. That probably will never happen again by anyone else. It's so unfortunate that we wound up losing that game. But Devin's got that special highlight for us to remember. They simply barely have enough numbers as it is to field a team now (if it wasn't for the NFL's slacking of position number restrictions the bears would have serious problems if they retire any more numbers). they have the most retired in the league....something like 15-20 numbers.

      Anyway great as it would be to retire their numbers it just hard to do when so many before them were retired. In hindsight the bears probably painted themselves into a corner when they shelved numbers for guys like Willie Galimore and Brian Piccolo. Great guys who died tragically but probably not prime candidates to retire a number for and now you can't undo it.
      I don't even think Samurai or any 85 bears legends have numbers retired besides Sweetness and Ditka. Just an unfortunate consequence. It's why many teams swapped jerseys for ring of honors.

    If you are going to vote the first special teams player to be in the Hall of Fame then it should be Steve Tasker. No disrespect to Hester but he was a brilliant one trick pony on special teams. He was a returner. Tasker was a returner, defensive tackler generally first to the player and brought down. He also blocked several punts. He was the ultimate special teams player so much that after Tasker, teams would actually draft players for special teams due to his contributions. To this day it happens. Tyler Lockett for the Seahawks was drafted due to his special teams abilities and look where he is now. It would be a crying shame if the first special teams player to go into the Hall of Fame wasn’t the most versatile player in ALL aspects of that discipline and not just one to be someone other than Steve Tasker. He put special team players on the map and paved the way for many to be respected.

    • @johnselwitz5362
      @johnselwitz5362 4 месяца назад

      I agree. What’s funny about Tasker is that Marv Levy viewed him in a way that was outside the norm as far as coaching philosophy in the NFL. What I mean by that is most coaches don’t want to use their best players on special teams, but with Levy it was the opposite in regards to Steve Tasker. Jim Kelly lobbied for years to get Tasker to be a bigger part of the Bills offense, but Levy wouldn’t let him because Tasker was too valuable on special teams. Levy called Tasker the most important man on those Bills teams of the 90s and it’s not hard to see why. You go watch any number of those games when the Bills were the class of the AFC, and you’ll see play after play in which Tasker makes his presence felt, he was a difference maker.
