Oktavism & Basso Profundo Compilation | C2 - C1 | Part 2

- “Simply put, the term oktavist is most precisely used to refer to basses that sing down to contra B flat and lower in a choral setting. Basso profundo is Italian in origin, and has a long history of clear definition within the operatic tradition, being subdivided into the categories of lyric and dramatic. While the term basso profundo comes from Italy and the opera tradition, oktavist has its roots in the choirs of Russia.”
Information, videos and notes taken mostly from the Oktavism channel. Big thanks to them for existing. Thanks also to Jay for helping me source some of the lower clips.
Tried to use some lesser known oktavists this time. No repeated clips (other than Zlat C1 as he's the only madman to have sung a live C1 in a choral setting)
Please watch part 1 before commenting that I missed a clip. It may be there.
Unknown = we don't know who sung it or I was simply unable to find out
There are inevitably mistakes in this video. Please let me know of any you find.
I don’t own the music, videos, photos, or anything in this video. Sue me. - Видеоклипы

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Zlatopolsky is the lowest human voice that has ever existed. No vocal fry, no sub harmonics, just natural voice. And that’s such a beautiful thing.
I’d agree that his was incredible.
Rumor has it he had 50 demons. That was his secret.
well his voice has vocal fry. and the singing does have vocal fry just the sound he can change it to is amazing. sadly he died 2001 of course but. Yes the deepest voice ever existed I'd agree. But his speaking voice is deeper than his singing to my hears at least. Such as the interview ruclips.net/video/2LCDl5LxQVI/видео.html. But basically vocal fry is natural in voices
King Louis XIII had a splendid bass voice. King Louis XIII could very easily hit a C1 note since he was an oktavist. 🎭🩰🎨

RIP oktavism legend!
I can actually go deeper than Zlatopolsky... just wish I had his power down there. He wasn't just low; he was insanely powerful. Even the best basso profundos cannot be heard much below Bb1 over other singers unless they solo.
@@johndeeregreen4592 Post a video going lower so we can enjoy it.
I'm still flabbergasted by the fact that the human voice can go that deep....

4:55 That unbelievably loud, rich and resonant, groundshaking G#1 sung by Zlatopolski with full power over the whole big choir is the best part. Maybe even the most impressive bass performance I've ever heard. Especially when you can see him live singing it without any effort or strain like it was an octave higher note. That low, that powerful - no effort! Compare it to Mr. Alatorre (himself being very decent deep bass singer) a moment before. Now one understands why Zlatopolski could go down over a half octave lower with his natural voice without any mic and still be audible in a choir setting.
I'd like to mention there's a video of Alexander Ort and Vladimir Miller singing very loudly and audibly Eb1 together at the end of Rachmaninov's "We Hymn Thee". One of them even takes breath and opens again at Eb1, which is even more unbelivable for me.
It’s in part 1 :)
Oktavists and basso profondos are so amazing. If I had a voice like them

Многая лета отцу Иоанну!))))
Spiritualità, che si trasforma , in suoni profondi lenti meditativi riflessivi sapienziali. Tutto da gustare e degustare !
I am amazed not just how low of cousre , but how difficult it is control the harmonic overtones (that are so so prone to go sharp) and the undertones that fight the singer and make the tone sound "muddy" when not right on top of the pitch. Just incredible. And the resolution at 6:04 G1 G major chord- chills!
As a kid in the 1960s we had a record by Ivan Rebroff and my favorite was Asleep In the Deep.
Wonderful vocal range, hard to imagine!

Really nice picks man! Thanks for including Ioannis, he's a great Oktavist, beautiful voice as well and i like the fact that Greece gets a bit of recognition haha! We have a lot of beautiful ceremonies here since we are Orthodox and well, let's just say that Oktavism really suits us.

Hello! I think that the "unknown Bulgarian Oktavist" at 10.50 might well be the extremely well known Bulgarian bass, Nicolai Ghiaurov, one of the greatest opera singers of his day in the late 20th century. He performed with all the opera greats including Pavarotti and was married to the splendid and legendary soprano, Mirella Freni.
Nice collection, but why no clips of Myhalik? I miss his voice here.

@@JVspeexPL there’s not really anything new I can use E1 and below
What about john ames going down to E1 ? He made a video and put it on his fb some years ago. Alexander Mayang made a choral piece including some oktavist and Lukianov singing D1 at the end of tebe poem.
You can also use both millers on G1 in eternal memory. Pasjukov's F1. Alexander Ort singing D1. And from kaval's (caval?) male choir an unknown oktavist singing D1. In my opinion he sounds almost like zlatopolsky maybe its him. You have to stay with zlatopolsky on this C1 but its obvious.
And also zlatopolsky solo on G1 from idet zvizda chudnov

fun fact: pavel myakotin is actually a baritone but he uses a very refined type of subharmonics wich sound almost like chest voice
This is true. I believe he’s chest until around D2 ish, and then strohbass to Bb1 ish and then subs below that
Exactly, that makes him even more impresive than naturally gifted basses
How can you tell the difference if it's subharmonic or chest voice
Stupid physics not letting me have a voice that can both reach the high and low notes.
