We were over from New Zealand, having bought our campervan back in 2004, we loved this caravan park, really gorgeous. We met these wonderful irish couple who we've kept in contact. We visited them later in 2004 and they came to visit us in New Zealand in 2008. Sadly, they both have passed now, one today, hence me reminiscing our memories and where we met our dear friends. Jacky Cobain and Betty Bankhead - RIP in peace friends. Abbeywood Camping site was the beginning of our beautiful friendship.
I've just come across this upload of yours and would like to thank you. I used to live in Thamesmead and Abbey Wood was my hometown. It's been 25 years plus since I moved away but this brings back so many memories. I don't care what people say about the area, I enjoyed my time there so much. Once Covid is out of the way, I will be visiting here as my best friend still lives there. Thanks once again.
I for one like the area too. I'd like to go back and explore Thamesmead in a bit more detail and revel in its Brutalist architecture! Glad it brought back some happy memories for you.
Take ear plugs the noise from the ringneck parakeets at 4am is unbelievable, perhaps Andrew didn't stay overnight or perhaps we were unlucky in our pitch position. Fabulous site for visiting London.
I like that you have a travel companion. I'd miss having a pup with me if I did as much traveling. Hopefully there is someone else to share this with as well. You seem like a really nice guy. When I finally get over to London, I'll hop the train and check this out. Coming from Oregon, I think I'll leave the camper at home!
Cheers Tom. I spent six gloriously happy weeks camping and windsurfing at Hood River about 15 years ago. LOVE Oregon! You're so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world with great camping on your doorstep :)
Thank you for sharing this site, I've been looking for one close to London. Really want to take the minis to The Natural History Museum and this looks like the perfect place to stay! Thanks :)
you know iv lived in there meany years now in a flat just off gostow road (wont say door number) and i take it for granted in on hoilday atm but seeing this really dose remind me of what a nice place to live
Oooohhhh,,,,those cabins are adorable! But what I'm really curious about is,,,is there still a bookstore at 84 Charring Cross ? Yes, I'm old, and yes, I LOVED that movie! Ann Bancroft and Sir Anthony,,,,does it get any better?
Hello! We want to go to the Abbey Wood Campsite in November, can you tell me how it costs the transport (train) to London per person? We want to buy the London Pass and I want to know if we have to buy it with transport or without it... Many thanks!!
We use visitors Oyster cards, nearly all trains and busses. Fare , single, ABBEY WOOD to Charring Cross £4.10. There is however a max daily rate and you can end up getting journeys for free. You dont need an account as you top up as you go. Look on the Transport for lonlon website
Do they have shower , toilet and washing up stations for tent campers? My parents took us camping while summers and dad went to work from the campgrounds. So wonderful to be conveniently located to transport.
Hi Annette, sorry - I did omit to film the shower blocks and washing up areas as they were always busy (being mid summer). But yes, there are free hot showers, washing up sinks, a laundry room, but the only thing there is not is a camper's kitchen - you need to take your own camping stove or head to the Abbey Cafe!
The same difference as 'Static Caravan' and 'Holiday Home.' Exactly the same accommodation, only we stayed in the former in the 1960s and 70s, and the latter in the millennial years ;@)

Lovely. Thanks for sharing. This is what camping is all about! All the best.
Wow, what a tranquil spot so close to London. Looks like Dougal enjoyed it.

So close & convinient to downtown London. Very cool. Love the those little houses; all the perks of home.
Thanks Andrew, this is really useful as I've considered staying there a few times but am now convinced it's a great option.

I was there for a few nights and fortunately didn't have that trouble.
I wish you could do at least 3 vlogs per week..really enjoy watchin 'em.
Ahh, thank you! I'd love to make 3 videos a week, but there is always the pesky interference of having to make a living too :-/
Well I must say, that looks very pleasant indeed. All the better with your review, nice relaxing and informative.
Cheers Simon!

Cheers Alex! Yes, we are all guilty of not making the most of where we live until a visitor shows us! All the best.
It looks inviting😍

Andrew Ditton Thanks. Sounds Devine.
Can u have a fire pit or some sort of fire outside?
Sadly not, only a barbecue.
Is there any electricity outlets?
I could live in one of those pods if they had a little kitchenette. Does anyone know of a company that sells them?
They are made by Swift in the UK: www.swiftgroup.co.uk/holiday-homes/s-pod
What is the difference between a "glamping pod" and a "chalet" ?
