Back then we had Midnight Special, Solid Gold, Soul Train, American Band Stand and the Ed Sullivan Show. These shows allowed us to actually see the bands behind the music. Most of us would never have seen them otherwise
The Midnight Special was really something. Basically, a concert performance weekly with professional lighting and cameras with attention to closeups on singers and instruments, not on the audience. There is no other show with this format. Not only great for reactions, but for vocal coaches and professional musician reviews.
I was married in a gazebo on the bay. Beautiful sunset scenery beach and sail boats. Returning to that spot her and I no one else dancing to this song and Crazy by Patsy Cline. Hope everyone can have a moment like that in their life.
It was Friday night for me. As a high school kid we used to “go out”…not sure kids do that now…we just went out to a gathering place to be around friends and try to pick up a girl…then home at midnight to watch Midnight Special.
This was the feel -good 70’s music Britt. Orleans,.. Pablo Cruise,… Firefall,..Ambrosia. Ear candy!!! 1st like and commenter. Thank you kindly Britt!!!!!
No doubt, bands bought their best to these shows like the Midnight Special...No internet back then to promote yourself, so your performance made a big difference in record/concert ticket sales! And yes, Orleans sound was very pretty. " Love Takes Time" and "Still the One" are some other big hits from them.
Hi Britt ! Love your take on this format. So my brother was a musician in the band Tavares. In 1975 they released a song entitled The love I Never Had ,and to your point it's a simple song in terms of just being a fantastic vocal performance and they are responsible for a ton of hits in the mid to late 70's and a couple in the early 80's. Some of their so called "B" side songs were really well done . Here's a song title you may never forget.........Please Remember What I Told You To Forget ! Ha! I know, but it's a great "B" side tune......trust me
Check out "Love takes Time" another great song by them. This song brings back so many great memories of the 70s for me. I wish young people today had this type of music to listen to.
Orleans was a local band in Woodstock, NY in the 70s. I used to go see them all the time at The Joyous Lake where they played. It was $3 at the door 😂 We were very proud of them when they broke through with this song. Happy days back then 😊
I was lucky enough to see John and the boys perform live in Conn. with Bonnie Raitt. I seem to remember John playing guitar for Bonnie's set that night.
The midnight special with wolfman Jack as it was called was my generations MTV after this another show called Don kirshner's Rock concert it was for the harder rock acts..then television went off the air about 1: 30 or 2 to am. Didn't come back on until 6am with the farm market report..lol😮😂
I've always thought that the lyrics of this song could have a dual meaning. 'Dance with me' could also mean, be my significant other, wife, lover. 'The music is just starting' could also mean that, we're young and our lives are just beginning. There's more but, you get the gist.
These shows literally let you see the band or artist you were listening to on your transistor radio or record player (if you were fortunate enough to own one) Great reaction, Britt!
If you ever want to check out one of their tunes with an early Doobie Brothers vibe, check out "Let There Be Music" (the title track of the album from which "Dance With Me" is on).
Can you checkout Putri Ariani covering I will survive on her channel Putri Ariani and Unbreak my heart of Toni Braxton covered by Putri on her other channel Official Konser Putri Ariani where she uploads her recent performances...U will like it😊 Putri also accepted at University studying Law...already did a performance on opening day there😊
It's called a melodica, they run $20 to $100. The most "reaction" videos to any Midnight Special profomace is "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. Trust me, you have NEVER seen anything like it.
What is going on with young people and taking a drink every 30 seconds? I've notice something about many young reactors that they can't get through a 3 or 4 minute song without taking a drink 4 or 5 times. Is someone telling them they need to do this or are they really so thirsty that they have to take a drink every minute or so? Why not just just have a glass of water or something before you start so you can make it through the song.
I know right? I can go for HOURS without drinking anything and i'm still alive. It's not like these reactors are jogging on a treadmill while watching the videos. They have just been brainwashed by the bottled water industry to "hydrate". Trust me, you are not improving your health by taking a sip every minute. You will just need more trips to the bathroom.
That instrument is called a Melodica, the band called the Hooters used that instrument in their song “and we danced”
...also used quite a bit by Stevie Wonder.

I grew up listening to this kind of music on the radio. It’s so nostalgic. This music stuck with me.
I was married in a gazebo on the bay. Beautiful sunset scenery beach and sail boats. Returning to that spot her and I no one else dancing to this song and Crazy by Patsy Cline. Hope everyone can have a moment like that in their life.
Hi Britt, yes this is one of the groups I liked in the 70’s riding my bike with my radio on the handle bars
I remember and loved those days…
One of my favorites 😂 I just graduated from high school a young 17 year old & it always stuck with me. 1975 😅 Time flies 💝
We watched Midnight Special every Friday (?) Saturday (?) Night back in the 70s.
You mean back in the...... just yesterday.
Saturday...right...maybe.

Really liked Tavares. She should react to them. Would be fun to watch.

Another priceless '70s track. Keep digging. Your shovel will be dull before you run out of gold.
70s, there were so many new inventions in musical instruments. Eventually, the synthesizer took over . It was the best time to be alive.
"Still The One" is their other big song worth a listen,

One of my all time favorite songs!

Britt, you're sooo mult-talented, you're _THE BEST_ reactor! ❤
Wow, thank you!
A real nice hit with that opening hook. Undeniable.

"What's That Instrument Called?"
The Instrument in Question, Britt, is a melodica.
It's also referred to as "A Hooter"
I've been hearing this song my whole life and never knew who it was🤦♂️
Love the Napoleon Dynamite reference...great movie!
These shows literally let you see the band or artist you were listening to on your transistor radio or record player (if you were fortunate enough to own one) Great reaction, Britt!
John Hall, the guitarist, had a side project called The John Hall Band that had a grreat song called Crazy (Keep on Fallin' in Love). Check it out.
If you ever want to check out one of their tunes with an early Doobie Brothers vibe, check out "Let There Be Music" (the title track of the album from which "Dance With Me" is on).
Trrific song ,highly underrated band with so much competition at that time. How do you compete with CSN and Fleetwood Mac ?
Wonderful song. Always enjoyed it😅
YOU LOVE THIS BAND ,THEY SING THE SONG STILL THE ONE. YOU SAID IT WAS A GREAT WEDDING SONG!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't heard this in 40+ years. Thanks🤩
Hey Britt, You should listen to a group called Foxes & Fossils version of this song. They are a group from Atlanta.
Oh wow I was hoping you would react to this song one day.
This is back in the 70s😊
Love you Britt, and you have a beautiful voice!
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Lathe instrument is a melodica
Life is a dance, and you just need to find right partner
A Melodica. ;-)
