Danny is Kenny's brother. Danny found out his girlfriend was pregnant and was going to marry her. Kenny (one with the beard) took most of the lyrics directly from that letter. Btw the son's name is Colin.
I met Jim Messina in the early 90s. A friend of mine was working for him at his Studio.

I would love to know about his history with Poco, and prior, Buffalo Springfield ( he replaced the original base player) and before...of which I have a severe lack of knowledge of..as in none. Color me green with envy!

@@deborahcornell171 for sure! And one of the things I remember from back then was how many older folk advised me to enjoy it now because it’s gone before you know it! I think of that when I hear myself giving the same advice! But when you’re young and you have your whole life before you,and you’re “itching” to be grown up,it NEVER felt possible that time would slip away like that. (Sigh) I guess that’s probably always the way it will be. I mean, who wants to ever think about it being “over” when it feels like it’s just begun?!😉

Jim Messina was a member of a few super groups of the time, Buffalo Springfield and Poco, and also was a very respected producer. He "discovered" Kenny Loggins, put together a band and produced the first album that this song is from. Jimmy decided to play on the album himself, hence the name Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina "sitting in".

Loggins and Messina made great folk/country/pop music in the '70's. In the '80's Kenny Loggins went more in a rock/jazz/fusion direction and LOTS of movie soundtracks like Top Gun and Caddy Shack. He worked with other singers including Michael McDonald and Steve Perry of Journey. You liked "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" by Journey. You should try a really energetic Loggins/Perry song, "Don't Fight It".

Unfortunately someone in the band caught COVID and the concert was postponed. The kids saw Home Free as their first concert, but got to see these guys as their second when the rescheduled concert happened. Still a lot of fun even though they're grey on top.

Kenny Loggins was doing this first album when the record company suggested Messina (already famous in his own right) to play with him on some songs. It went so well that they played together on all the songs so they decided to add Messina in the title and called it "Sittin In" as...Messina was sitting in with Loggins. The album did so well that the record exces (Clive Davis) suggested they stay together as an official dou...so the next album was called just "Loggins and Messina". You must play " Pathway to Glory" I owned and managed a few record stores in the 70s/80s and that song is in my all time top 10. Listen to the album version. Turn It UP!!!

As a mother with a young child, You would love "House @ Pooh Corner" Kenny Loggins wrote the song as an ode to his childhood. I think he was 17 or 18 at the time. He was dating the CEO of Disney's daughter. They owned the rights to "Winnie the Pooh" They sent him a cease and desist letter. His GF talked her father into allowing him the record and sell the song. It became a major hit. It is also very sweet. This song was a hit when I was pregnant with my son. I wanted to name him "Danny" so badly - but there were so many Danny's already in both families.....You can bet his middle name is Daniel. (And he indeed had Pooh sleepers -popular at that time - and a Pooh Bear)

Welcome to the fantastic world of the iconic Kenny Loggins. He was the absolute KING of soundtracks in the 80's. Please react to Footloose (Footloose), I'm Alright and Nobody's Fool from Caddyshack, Danger Zone and Heaven Helps the Man (Top Gun). He is has AMAZING ballads - Heart to Heart, Forever, Meet Me Halfway, This is It.

I've been waiting for this day. You are just the cutest thing and I knew people would start sending you the baby songs. There are a few more. I'm sure someone will send you Paul Anka - Having My Baby, and Stevie Wonder - Isn't She Lovely?
I'm know I speak for everyone when I tell you how happy we are for you and your husband. 💕

Britt, I know this is their song. But if you'd like to react to a version that, in my opinion, is ten times better, you should react to Anne Murray singing Danny's Song! Some lyrics are different since she's a female artist, but it's absolutely flawless! Anne Murray was one of the greatest female vocalists of the 70's and 80's. If you've ever heard "Snowbird," that is likely Anne Murray you heard.

"Kenny Loggins penned the romantic ballad as a gift for his older brother Danny Loggins to mark the birth of Danny's first son Colin. Most of the lyrics came from a letter Kenny received from Danny, who was planning to marry Colin's mother and was in the middle of moving his new family to California."
The Logins here is Kenny Loggins of Footloose and Danger Zone fame.

My favorite song, and favorite, original rendition. A country singer did a hit cover of it, too. I even went out and bought the sheet music. They were among the folks in the We are the World video you just reviewed. Astrology was bigger in the 1970s. Done when John Denver was getting popular and all over the radio. They wrote and did several movie songs (known as the king of movie soundtracks) in the 70s and 80s. Try playing some of Laura Nyro, who died so young but so influential!
