Thank you Alf, very helpful as always!
That was really helpful and many thanks for that. Brilliant!
Rediculas place to put it, I've mentioned before that it took me a while to find it, this video will have helped people new to harleys locate it. Just one for anyone who has had a stage 3 or 4 and are using syn 3 harley davidson oil, up until a few months ago they used the same oil for both primary and transmission, harley have now brought out a new grade of syn 3 to use solely in the transmission but only use if you have syn3 in the primary.
Ah ok great thanks for that info. Cheers
Thanks I'm going to try to check my fluids I have no idea what wight is in my bike.
Not so hard to do on my Street bob as no suspension pre load in the way. Transmission is checked at ambient temperature, to me that means cold and on side stand. Engine is checked hot, and on side stand. Primary is checked with bike level.
Yep good plan
love your vids,pal...very educational
Primary oil should be checked with bike up right and level not on the stand as you mention. Try undoing your derby cover while on the side stand, oil will go everywhere.
Also you mentioned oil transfer on the M8 units, this can not happen with the softail models with cable operated clutches. It can only happen on the touring M8 engines which use a hydraulic operated clutch.
Also your engine dipstick has marking for bike on jiffy stand and also held upright for example on a workshop lift, either way motor oil can be checked on the jiffy stand or upright.
How to change your primary Fluid -
1.Run motorcycle until engine is at normal operating temperature. Turn off engine.
WARNING
Be sure that no lubricants or fluids get on tires, wheels or brakes when changing fluid. Traction can be adversely affected, which could result in loss of control of the motorcycle and death or serious injury. (00047d)
2.Secure motorcycle upright (not leaning on jiffy stand) on a level surface.3.See Figure 1. Drain primary chaincase.4.Clean drain plug magnet. If plug has excessive debris, inspect the condition of chaincase components.5.Install drain plug and new O-ring. Tighten.
Torque: 19-28.5 N·m (14-21 ft-lbs) Primary chaincase drain plug
Philip Roberts yes correct thanks. Tongue tied again. Yes only in tourers however there have been a handful of reports for Softails too but perhaps for other reasons . Cheers
Another good video R A
Thanks fella. I’ll try to do more soon too. Cheers
Top vidéo thanks 👍👍
Cheers
Do you check transportation oil hot or cold?
Either but I prefer cold but only for comfort sake
I just checked mine and the dipstick feels oily but appears colorless. Difficult to check level. Gonna go to Harley dealer and ask a lot of questions. Only have 3400 miles on the bike. No leaks.
Did you ever get an answer from the dealer?
Great Vid as always - Looks like you need to give her a bath! Were you riding in the rain again, or just off road? :) Keep Safe!
ParrotHead 1809 ha ha always a bit of both. Cheers
Is it on sidestand or on lift
as it should be
I can see what you unscrewing
