Just picked up a mint ‘19 beautiful flamed Koa back, top is gorgeous and I can’t believe how much the entire body resonates. Seriously for a layered body I’m just amazed. Plays like butter , has excellent definition/separation and tonal balance between strings. I like it so much I’m selling my Larrivee D05.
Sounds great and it should be interesting moving forward with Rosewood being tougher to use now. It will be nice seeing more woods being featured by different makers though like Koa here and stuff like Walnut as well. There are a lot of great tone woods out there and now people will be exposed to even more of them which should be a good thing.
@@thekeelefamily hey, realized it was 2yrs ago since i made that comment. Many things happened along the way, i sold the 214ce aftee few months to try 314ce, it has a louder and better dynamics due to solid back wood. But thats just a slight difference. I tried 324ce as well. I sold them all, back to 214ce Koa Dlx now and im loving it!!
Hey John, I don't suppose you happen to have any of these in a lefty right now? I just tried a right-handed version at the local guitar center and was blown away. I was actually in the market for a fancier (more expensive) guitar but I was floored by the 214ce's tone and it just sounded better when I A/B'ed with other guitars. Let me know if you have any coming soon.
Love all these videos! Thank you for sharing. Ok - I know only I can answer these questions for myself, but I’m going to ask anyway :) I’m considering two guitars: - 214ce (koa) -314ce (rosewood) First, I love that you picked the 214ce for your son, even before you sold Taylor guitars. So that automatically gives it some points in my book. My main questions: - Can you comment how sound/tones compare? - Will the 314 gain much more richness over time vs the 214? - How much more space do you feel with 1/16 wider nut of 314? - If I go with the 214, any thoughts on how anxious I might get to upgrade to solid wood 314 level in near-term future? Thank you! dk
I love how much Bob Taylor cares for the trees and always finds an alternative to make their guitars for us consumers but still never sacrifices the sound or the beauty of them! This is why i LOVE Taylor. They never fail us with a bad instrument no matter what the forest has to offer!
@@thekeelefamily Unfortunately I didn't try the 314. I recommend checking out the Acoustic Letter's video on Taylor 114 vs 314. 114 and 214 are pretty much the same guitar. Little differences :) So maybe that video could help you. All I can say is that the 214 is a great instrument. I've been playing it for 7 years and it just sound better and better. It always surprises me every time I put new strings on.

I have a 214ce and it is by far the best guitar I've ever owned. Thanks for the review. I'm in Sterling.
Charlie Tango - any chance you compared the 214 to the 314? If so, what drove you toward the 214?
I love the respect you have for the instruments 👍
Just picked up one of these and love the tone and volume you get out of it!
Dilip Priyanath - any chance you compared the 214 to a 314? If so, what pushed you to the 214?

The downvotes on this video are in no way deserved. Enjoyed it thoroughly!

I'm sure you've heard this many times before, but we don't stock lefty guitars. They're easy enough to order, of course. 🙂
Why don't you sing the song, 'Help Me Make It Through The Night'?

They sound beautiful, but they have moisture issues. @cKr8
