    So I came on here to say Waking Life is a like top 5 movie for me. I think about it probably every day, rewatch it a few times a year. I'm an artist and I've always been fascinated by Rotoscoping, as well as Dreams and Philosophy...so this movie is just perfect for me. This got me into Philip K Dick really, and lucid Dreaming, and I just have found this movie enthralling since I saw it probaby twenty years ago. Love Big Picture, Love Movies, love Rewatchables! ❤

      I love WL, too. I used to put it on all of the time, especially during moments of great stress or anxiety and it weirdly helped ground me. I’ve probably seen it about a dozen times. Been a while, though. Might be time

    "Inning by Inning" is one of the best low key Tribute/Philosophical sports docs ever made. Richard clearly idolizes Augie and takes you through his career and mentoring coach history quickly and quietly. What it sits on is his steadfast dedication to being present and aware of yourself, your teammates, and every opportunity that is presented to a player during a game. It's incredible. I get the feeling you guys didn't bother to watch it. Otherwise you would have mentioned that Matthew McConaughey gives a pep talk to the UT team half way through. And it's as Matthew as you think it could ever be.

    This is my time to shine: The Rock tweeting about bin Laden was covered in an episode of The Newsroom. The Rock apparently had a cousin in the Navy Seals which is how he got the info early.
    I would like to take this moment to pitch A Mission to Civilize: The Newsroom 10 Years On.

    Free Ep idea: ideal transatlantic plane ride 3 movie setlist. Just did a Before Sunrise (only Linklater on the plane + flying from Europe wanted some more wistful vibes) , A Star is Born (the opening, wanted to get cozy for some sleep), into AmbuLAnce (to wake back up and remind me what the USA is all about)
    Alternatively: what your 3 movie plane setlist says about you

    It might not exist, but I know what Sean's pointing at when he talks about Linklater's potential 'Shield of chill' in interviews. Always consistently chill, but it's suspicious because it seems inhuman for a director to be that laid back and successful.

    It should’ve been Waking Life! Any of those three over Hit Man, though, tbh. But Waking Life over Scanner Darkly. And I love PKD. Scanner Darkly was the first book of this that I read. But it kind of misses imo. In rewatch it was better than I remember, though. Great cast, too. Waking Life is amazing and a work of art.

    I wasn’t too big on Everybody Wants Some but I agree with the rest of the picks (haven’t seen Hit Man yet because theaters in Utah aren’t playing it, fuck you Netflix). I think Slacker, Dazed and Confused, the Before Trilogy, School of Rock, and Boyhood undeniably deserve spots in the hall of fame, the rest is up to personal choice. I’d definitely go Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly, and then Bernie, or maybe Hit Man depending on how I feel about that one when I see it.

    I can't believe how ho hum you all were about A Scanner Darkly, one of the only Philip K Dick adaptations that was as extraordinary and transcendent as the book. Amanda trying to give this a red when I'm sure she hasn't done more than watch a few clips is why she's so grating in these discussions. She puts more energy into trying to work her eight-hundredth reference to the godawful Sound of Music into the convo.

      I want it on The Rewatchables in the worst way. It’s so good, and Linklater somehow nailed the casting of future big names in movies and TV a second time, after Dazed.

    • @mikecat6291
      @mikecat6291 Месяц назад

      @@ryanmarshall3487here's where you're wrong: the movie is EIGHT years old now and Wyatt Russell and Glen Powell are still far from household names. Powell might finally be catching on, we'll see how The Hitman fares, but Russell is still niche as can be if you don't watch superhero movies. I just don't think the guy has it if it hasn't happened in a BIG way for him yet despite all the breaks he catches.
      You compare it to Dazed where there were myriad examples of actors becoming A-list stars just a year or two removed from that film.
      It's actually shocking how much Linklater MISSED with Everybody Wants Some considering how large the cast is.

    • @michaelbailey8850

      @@mikecat6291I this Linklater perfectly hit on the cast. I don’t care about what the original point was, casts shouldn’t be judged off of if people become stars after or not. The casting within the movie is perfect
