Ffxi was that awesome gf you had that cooked food, cleaned the house, and kept you focused but you were to young to appreciate or understand it and now every other gf just seems so mediocre or not work it with a high price tag.
Games or women are not made like that anymore just like if you said that joke anywhere else today it wouldbt be funny cause liberal bs weird how the game is notwhat it used to be either... There must be a link :o
This is the stupidest analogy I have ever seen. Your gf is not there to care for you like a god damn baby. Maybe that’s why you are single and a loser.
I loved Delkfutt's Tower personally. I farmed lightning elementals on the upper to middle floors for enough money to buy myself a Genie Weskit back in the day. Nothing but fond memories of making my "run" and loading my inventory full of clusters to sell for 5k a pop. I used to just climb the tower from bottom to top for fun and once at the top, spamming enhancing magic to cap on my Black Mage. When I finally left the game for Final Fantasy XIV, I climbed the tower one last time and logged out at the door to the BCNM fight at the top. Maybe I just loved being alone in an MMO, but this place just did it for me.
So when you were walking through Meriphtaud mountains the curser on your screen went blue a couple of times and it looked like you were chasing a butterfly. Made me chuckle! Good video.
I literally STILL to this day, 10+ years later, think about my chocobo. I raised that little bubba and left him in the Sandoria stables. Still hurts my heart to think about.
The Mhaura and Meriphitaud Mountains choices were very interesting and thought about in a different way than I would have ever guessed. Loved it. Great work, once again!
haha so many low level camps were like that, yuhtunga and yhoater jungle, crawlers nest. I think I just have a strange love for garliage because of my thf days blowin up beetles with viper bite
I used to do a lot of mercenary work. Meaning noobs would hire me to go kill things solo for Gil (I was a career RDM). I did this for years, over and over in all of these zones for coffer keys, or AF NMs, and a lot of times Prime Avatar battles. So over the years, I got really good at navigating these places, learning the exact paths to take, what spawned where and when, what to do if you fell down in the wrong zone, etc. FFXI has some really frustrating level design in some zones, and this was intentional. The devs wanted people to explore and part of making that exciting is making it convoluted and dangerous. Nearly every zone that was a destination or wasn't just there as a hub or to connect other zones had some sort of gimmick to traversing it. And they forgot how to do this in FFXIV. They almost had it in Heavensward, but they dropped the ball IMO.
I totally agree. In FFXI the zones are places to me. In every other games the zones are just names. I do think a lot of that was from not having fast travel everywhere like a lot of games do.
Im sorry but I dont think that design is currently viable in todays market. There is value to it but I dont think the games longevity would hold up. Regardless thays pretty cool that you were an in game mercenary!
Dude. Love the nostalgia this video brings. I agree with some of the zones. I’d add riverine site B101 iirc lol. Man for my first love for an MMORPG FFXI was the stuff. Good times. P.s. Nidhogg still owes someone and E-body lol. Keep up the FFXI vids bro. Much love.
I'm just here for the nostalgia ^^ Was half expecting the Yuhtunga and Yhoator jungles to use all the frustration gathered from within their convoluted twists and turns and weird ass map to transcend expansions and make it to this list anyway, but I enjoyed it all nonetheless. The pace of speech was a tad quick, but it was still a fun listen. Good stuff :)
My thought exactly! It was the most active Ballista zone in the game, and the landscape made it more challenging. It was also a necessary zone to balance out Pashow and Jugner, and it was the perfect zone to travel through when heading to the Sanctuary of Zi Tah because it made the Sanctuary's presentation so much more impactful.
I can't wait for future lists of this! I am fully expecting to see Temple of Uggalepih / Den of Rancor (because of the paint brush and lantern mechanics, and the fear of being one shot by a tonberry), also Yuhtunga / Yhoator Jungle (because of the purposely frustrating navigation), also for newer zones Yorcia Weald (because it's the Yuhtunga Jungle of Adoulin.. ), and any campaign related zones in the past because the music would drone on and on and on and on when a campaign battle started.
And your top 5 worst zones are still better than all zones in FFXIV. I miss this game in it's prime. It was magical to me and will never be replaced. My all-time favorite game by far.
Great video! I loved Mhara... as a fisher, I spent a lot of time on the boat between Selbina and Mhara, but stopped over in Mhara sometimes to fish there waiting for the next ferry just because I loved the music there. One zone I would add to this list is crawlers nest (or whatever it's called, leveling spot in the mid 30s). I don't think it's that bad last time I logged on and went through it, but I thought it was a nightmare when I was leveling my WHM job back in the day xD.
I still have vivid memories of that zone from back in the Zilart days. I remember that if you were camping by the tower, there was no going back to Jueno if it was night time due to the undead around the center lake point.
Just getting to fucking camp was an adventure in the old days. There'd be a dozen people sitting just before the first weapon in the tunnel out to Qufim shouting for help clearing them out so they could get to camp. In the pre leve-sync days (long, long ago LOL) you'd get trapped for like 20 minutes or more waiting for someone to volunteer to go back to town and change to a higher job to clear the weapons out so that all the noobs could get through. Good times.
Yeah also higher level monster requires party to create skillchains to create magic burst. Where redmage and bard will instantly get you an invite to party. Or yet, you have a player who duo box a higher level character or paying Gil to get PL
First of all I really like your idea of best/worst zones from each expansion. Really looking forward to your next video. I would have put the Necropolis as my worst from the original game for sure. Players who never played FFXI would not understand how dangerous the undead were due to blood aggro and the like. The fact that you need one or more friends to help you navigate through the zone and that many people contested over the same Treasure Coffer made it unbelievably frustrating. At the height of FFXI popularity you could spend days or longer attempting to find one coffer for your AF gear. As far as Meriphataud mountains is concerned, I am surprised you didn't mention how damn large the zone is. A huge zone with nothing to do except wish it was smaller. At least it lead up to one of the best zones in the game, Zitah.
Love the list! Thanks for sharing. I keep wanting to get back into FFXI, but I had an error last time I tried and couldn't figure out what was wrong... This makes me want to step back into the world!
Memories... I cant even explain how many countless hours I put into this game, and still got nowhere. You could spend an entire lifetime trying to do everything and still never accomplish it. Friends and teamwork were everything. There will never be a game like this.. I am just glad I got past the addiction of playing it and started focusing on real life again. I will always miss it though. My favorite memory is wandering and listening to the music in The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah.
It's weird how back in this era everyone had time to do things like this. Now all the sudden no one does. We're in a different world where everyone is on the move.
The Shrine of Ru'Avitau I think it was called up in Ru'Aun Gardens. Want to fight Kirin? Take this teleport stand. Oh, sorry, wrong room, try again. Kirin runs always started late because people got gated lol
What I hated about doing any sky run was simply getting around to the right area and if you didn't know your way around you quickly found yourself lost and probably asking an ls member or friend for a raise.
You know it is very rare when someone can really make me sit back and just bask in nostalgia. I started playing this game at the launch of ToAH expansion but I still got to experience the game in all it's classic glory and I really just wanted to say: Thank you. While I know I can never return to those glory days it is nice to see someone appreciate this wonderful game the way I did. Keep up the good work.
I can't believe Ifrit's Cauldron, Yuhtunga/Yhoator Jungle, or Castle Zvahl weren't on the list! Ifrit's Cauldron was one of my least favorite zones because you always had to bring ice clusters (or be incredibly patient), and all the bombs aggro to magic. Another one for me would be Temple of Uggalepih/Den of Rancor because of all the doors and the paintbrush key item... and again, pots aggro magic!
Beadeaux is super annoying but the design is genius imo in how difficult it is for people to travel through it. A stronghold that's actually a dangerous stronghold! Gives credence to it being their home.
Love your vids bro this game was a big part of my life for a decade every time I watch I miss it. And you forgot about kahzam/yuhtunga/yhoator jungle though lol
I personally liked Meriphataud Mountains. Not a favorite, but I definitely had some moments there and it was a (duo)-leveling spot all the way up to nearing the 20's. My most memorable moment, is spotting a Yagudo with a weird name. Coo Keja the Unseen. I gave it a go and could easily take it on and it threw down "Ajase Beads". A lvl30 neck piece that actually offered DEF: 4, HP +20, which I was pretty psyched about as a tank. +as a lvl30, heck even 40-cap piece. Accuracy +3 Attack +3 too, if under my nation's control!
Daniel Giles that is true all exp enemies had annoying aoe in that area, helm beetles and their aoe evasion down, fly's poison, crawler's slow, but it had a cool feeling to it (the area that is)
solblackguy Hell yeah I duo'd BST with a friend and we spent a ton of time in the "donut room", great place to level, plus there was a specific gap between the wall and a boulder mobs refused to path through, so you could force them to run around the boulder as you stepped back and forth through the gap. Saved our ass many times when shit came uncharmed.
Selbina was the lowlevel kick back spot fr fr. I remember plenty of times meeting up there because it just seemed away from all of the stress. It was a meeting place, a spot of safety. For a low level that is finally getting out of San'doria, it felt like you were going places.
I agree with all the zones listed. Maybe you could add Gustenburg. IMO the zone is divided by a cliff that required you run around if you needed to reach Gusgen mines. But I didn't start in Bastok. All zones were a pain to travel, even with a map.
Thinking back on #2...Meriphataud Mountains had a few NMs when they added a whole mess of new NMs to the game in ...2008 I want to say? One of which dropped a Haste +2% belt you could use around level 20. It was a Cockatrice or a Raptor NM (I want to say Raptor) and it was like level 50 compared to all the level 25ish mobs it spawned from, so it was a high level solo, but as a THF, that belt was so worth camping for leveling 4th, 5th, and 6th jobs. My Ninja used it all the way to the Swift Belt because it was simply so good.
I, originally, did not like Delkfut Tower. However, after going there to get the Blu spell from the dolls there, I realized it's a decent farming area. Dolls and pots gave items that sold for decent in shops and good at AH. And the treasure chests were decent as well.
The Tower was a great EXP spot; it was safer than the outside. Many players had a sigh of relief being high enough to zone into the tower. The Mountains were also a fairly safe zone to level, due to the chasms. The flies also dropped items needed for the Chocobo Quest.
The thing about Mhaura was that most people chose to level in the Dunes and do the Selbina subjob quest. The Dunes was connected between La Theine and Konschtat. Kolshushu just took you to Mhaura, and Onzonzo. Of course there was the boat that had an occasional pirate attack or the Sea Horror
I like your list. I love Sea zone but in my opinion I think it ranks in one ofthe worst zone in my list, especially the Grand Plalace of Hu'Xzoi... I still remember as a WHM I had to go run to the opposite side to raise somebody from the LS on a run... great memories! love your FFXI videos... your making me wanna go play it again XD
I know this is a video about the "worst launch zones" ...but that macro ui though! so clean! I can actually read it! i need to find some ui mods that make everything easier to read... especially when im trying to read how many beastman seals and bat wings i have... the number is so small i can barely tell!
When you spend some weeks farming Pallas &.... forgot the other one for those str bracelet you'll get your way, eyes closed. But what shocked me the most with Delfkut, when I went back last may to capture some cutscene, like 10 years after I farmed those nm or almost... I still could do the way up to the bc eyes closed... This game kinda freaks me out sometime xD But for me the worst were Garlaige & Eldiem for obvious door reason :P Special mention to Beaucedine... especially after the [S] version got out with those shortcuts that was't implemented to the old version :(
Ahh, I have that same muscle memory with the Jungles. But ONLY for the same route, too Norg, and from the Crystal/Norg. If I wiggle wrong one way, I am so lost. I remember I used a printed out map, where I mapped all the "tunnels" and where they went. ^^
Not sure I agree with Meriphaud Mountains although you're right, it is predominantly a pass-through zone. There were some worthwhile nm drops there like the headlong belt off of Chonchon or the sonic knuckles off Daggerclaw Dracos. I also found it a decent area to farm coeurl hides for when I was leveling leatherworking.
Mariphataud Mountains... I literally had to look that place back up. I remember it for riding to Sanctuary of Zi’tah and for doing AF coffers at castle oz. I haven’t played the game in a LONG time, but I still feel weird that I forgot about that zone lol.
Ive honestly never had an issue running delkfuut. The secret is looking at the map, and going the direction that would take you the longest. Always the correct answer.
Ffxi was far from perfect but something about the way all of its components came together made it the best MMO and one of the most rewarding games you could ever play. What a game
Starting as a native bastokan (Go rock collectors!), Beaudux never was that big of a problem. You can apply sneak and invis prior to being silenced. Also echo drops are pretty easy to make. Most of my LS, even in the early days, level alchemy enough to make some of the basics. I always try to have a stack handy either in my inventory or in the mog storage. A lot of us also carried around full stacks of sneak oils and prism powders because of magic aggro mobs when casting sneak and invis. Lastly, as drg, when remove breath was introduced, sometimes I'd just get lazy and take the curse and have my wyvern remove the curse later. And daft punk tower (what my LS always called it) is easy to understand if you look through all the maps in unison once The idea is that the central stair way was a short cut from the top to the bottom (as is the elevator). If the stairway you're taking is right next to the stairway you just climbed up, you're doing it wrong.
Hey now. In 2008-2009 or something when they introduced all those really awesome lowbie NMs (the timed ones that had the Rare/Ex Gear that had Acc+3 or the new low level grips.... those things), Meriphataud Mountains had an NM that dropped a Haste +2 or +3% belt...for level 28 or something. You know... as a Ninja or any DD, 2% haste at that level was GODLY.
Man... I loved Mhaura. For some reason, while Selbina had its cheery atmosphere, I feel like Mhaura was hiding something more. Definitely with those shady NPCs in the storage areas found in the little corner down the stairs from the Ambuscade NPC. It's always been a place of mystery to me and one of my favorite zones personally. I loved hopping that ship and fishing up fish on it and waiting for pirates... It is genuinely one of my favorite memories in FFXI. I am still playing this game and plan to play it now until the day SE shuts the servers down...
I spent a lot of time in meriphataud. One of the field of valor pages was just 9 damselflies - back in the day of you had to solo level and turn a profit it was simply the best option for the gausebit drops. My least favorite from original release would actually have to be Davoi and Monastic Cavern. Beadaux was a nice change because the challenge wasn't that it was a maze. After all the other zones, going into Davoi was just tedious especially because for parts of it you needed both sneak and invis... And reapplying it because you had to swap zones so much just added to the annoyance for me.
I agree it had a great concept, but for me it was the layout as you had to go through multiple entrances depending where you wanted to go, though it wasn't difficult it was a bit offputting.
Some of my best and favorite ballista memories are from Meriphataud mountains. I would have picked prolly Bostaunieux Oubliette over that....you drop down to an area below a castle in a starting city to be met with level 50-70 monsters almost all of which aggro...not to mention even if your appropriate level the monster types were a massive pain in the butt (looking at you slimes and bloodsuckers) and was notorious for having RMT after blood bead ring....😤 Getting anyone bold enough to fight there mpkd
I bought ff11 at launch for pc. Was tarutaru blm from windurst. When it launched for ps2 we got all the stuff to play it for my gf a taru whm from bastok(I was upset about that lol) Anyway we played in the same room and having a whm always with me made grouping quicker. She was more popular than me and got many LS invites ): I felt like her little brother tagging along. Damn y'all trying to steal my whm! I mean gf! Mostly my whm
@@pliktl yeah you didn't have a group without WHM at least the period I played through(through CoP) while DD could be swapped there were other tank options but WHM? Y'all were royalty. Even if you caused a wipe by not paying attention you didn't talk down to the Whm they could regroup instantly but if you lost yours it might be a few hours. Do you need anything? If I could make a you sandwich, coffee, you good? That's great!
I kind of had a general dislike of Jugner forest, mostly due to making my home nation Bastok, meant I had to travel through it at lv 20 to get to Jueno. That first 20 was always a pain. Then they succeeded in making that area even more frustrating in Wotg. Ironically, Delkfutt's tower was one of my favorite places to farm, as Ice Brands sold reasonably well on my server, and I could take the elevator to upper Delkfutt.
Beadeaux and Delfkutt were essentially progression dungeons to the Zilart era game, so their frustration aspect is tied to them being made intentionally tricky/difficult. One thing I will say though is the sense of foreboding and dread in both Beadeaux and Delfkutt are feelings I never felt in XIV. Everything felt super safe in that game. In XI, you may have spent half a day getting a group to do missions and travelled all the way there with your HP in Selbina or Jeuno, a wipe means half a day to a day's progress gone.
This just reminds me of just how many zones the game actually had, especially in the earlier areas. Not even talking about the ones in the video. So many missed opportunities for basically these completely unused zones that were kinda cool.
I woulda put Garlaige Shitadel on the list. King Ranguemont's pass... and I dunno, Delkfutt's lower on the list, cause you can get to the top of Delkfutt's by just hugging the right wall and moving on up lol. Edit: Actually, nix Delkfutt's entirely and put King Ranperre's Tomb on the list.
Had to laugh and comment, your #1 was my favorite farming zone for elemental clusters. Pretty much just got the key and dropped through the floors via the pits. Made millions as a rdm/thf for giggles.
haha this is true, Garliage is pretty awful. But at least it had some amazing camps for leveling through the low 30s and upper 40s. But yeah the doors...
I love the explanations as to why the zones are bad. Absolutely spot on and the second you mention the zone I end up saying to myself everything you're about to mention just before you mention it. I fucking hate passing through MMountains lol.
7: Garlaige Citadel [The Undead, The Weighted Doors..] 6: Delkfutts Tower [My Sneak & Invisible is wearing off...] 5: The Eldieme Necropolis [The Undead, The Doors] 4: Davoi / Beadeaux!! / Castle Oztroja!!! [All annoying with their stupid puzzles and segregated Beastman] 3: Castle Zvahl Keep & Baileys [Many many different Beastman, yet still segregated] 2: Qufim Island [The Noobga bunch that somehow made it to 20, that aggroed to everything] 1: Valkurm Dunes!!! [Where the average rate of experience was more loss than gain!!!] [A spike in broken monitors rose at those times]
Huntin 4 Games it sounds nice when you put it like that. However my most vivid memory of that zone was going there for the first with an alliance of noobs (myself included) trying to get our airship pass taking forever to do the mission with people falling down trap doors and such.
Aww, I love Mhuara! It has one of my favorite pieces of music and one of my greatest memories in the game is tied to Mhuara. I imported the Japanese version of this game way back when and I remember staying up until like 2am talking to a japanese player named Eowyn(in game name). We actually became great friends in real life and for a while we were discussing her coming to visit my family in the U.S. none of that panned out of course but it was just a really neat experience! She was super nice and we just had a wonderful conversation. I haven't had an experience like that in a game since....
I lived in delkfut from like 2004-2006 made hundreds of millions off of Pallas and Alkyoneus. For some reason on my server hardly anyone ever camped them and the rmt wasnt strong enough to handle the dangerous zone. By far my favorite zone.
Bad Zones? The Dragon's Aery might not be bad but I spent so much time in there with my HNMLS back in the day that I cannot stand the Tree or the connecting zones. whew lad the Necropolis.. I had to go through Beaucedine Glacier to get that god damn coffer. Attowha Chasm and the Parradamo tor.. gods damned mountain
Awww I love the tree, but not sure which expansion that was! I don't think it was the original release was it? If it was it might have deservd a mention
At one point of playing 11 on the xbox I remember taking the Selbina song and using it for the background music for lots of things. Selbina is best zone.
Garlaige Citadel, Eldieme Necropolis, Labyrinth of onzozo, Castle Ozroja, Beaudeux were tough, remember Beaucedine Glacier with big storms and no map... that was challenging
I enjoyed Meriphitaud(sp) Mountains. I use to solo in that area and hunt for Blu spells. My least favorite place was an area in Sea. I don't remember the name but it was like one of the few places I didn't get the map to. Many rooms had those spinning guys that you had to time getting past by traveling when its side was to you. Which rarely worked. Then there were those annoying 3 formed guys who, as a ball, did not agro, as spider, agroed true sound and, as a bird, agroed true sight. Then there was the annoying complications to finishing the C.O.P. quest that involved it.
Ah the memories. I'm a veteran player of 10 yrs and I miss this game. I think one of my worst zones would be the dunes. Your about lol 10-12 and you get to go to the dunes..you get there and boy you get smacked down hard before you get too far from the gate by a goblin. I don't know how many sleepless nights I spent trying to lvl my char in decent parties there without half of the pt dying.
I have played many MMOs and FFXI is *STILL* my absolute favorite. However, i would have put Yhoater and/or Yuhtunga as "worst" instead of Mhaura ( I could *never* find my way through Yhoater and Yuhtunga, even with the maps). I didn't mind Meriphataud Mountains - which I nicknamed "Meri Mountains" ... And I remember, in very early FFXI, that Valkurm Dunes was *the* place to level and party until go to level 18 to head to Qifim. Most people disliked Valkurm - I loved it. I think what I loved most was the game was challenging, it made you think and really *play* your character instead of cookie cutter armor/weapons and button mashing ( a la WoW ).
I played in the 75 Era. 75nin75whm75rdm75thf 75war 75pld.Can't remember my levels on subs but I had all at least 37. Thinking about coming back just brand new. Is it still as fun as it was back then or did they make it so easy it lost the magic?
wasnt Delfucks tower the one that had the Giga that dropped the Eurytoes bow? yea, me and my roomate lived there one summer farming that NM for the Bow. We ended up in almost a year farming it, even with him being a THF with a THF knife giving up. We only ended up getting them when the game was updated and NM's started dropping the Rare/EX versions you couldn't sell. So we kinda made some money back that winter.
my roommate used to solo farm the Ruby Quadav in Beadeaux. I hate that zone. I cannot tell you how many times i had to travel there on my PLD to Rez him when he died. It got so bad i would just farm around the zone while he was there and just ended up helping him get w/e drop he was after. It was all good though we always helped each other out esp when farming for a specific drop we needed/wanted. I just recall absolutely hating Beadeaux and all the time we spent there.
I've never thought about pronouncing Beadeaux as you did. I always just said it how it's spelled, like Bee-ah-dew-ux, which I know is not right, but it's the name I know it by for the last 15yrs lol.
Personally I really like Eldieme Necropolis, I really like creepy areas like crypts. Beadeaux is okay too. I like areas that feel intimidating, both have interesting and unique designs. They also both have interesting mechanics that promote group play even just to explore them, which I think is a good thing. I would have put Batallia Downs on this list, just because I think it's one of the most boring and ugly areas in the game. Perhaps also Buburimu Peninsula which is like a more non-descript and bland Valkurm Dunes. Also, Crawler's Nest! Not so much that it's a bad area, although it's a bit boring, but because there are WAY too many good camps there in the original release! It almost seemed like the majority of your leveling time may have been spent in that area! And it's not exactly the kind of place you want to spend hundreds of hours in! I totally agree with Meriphataud Mountains and Delkfutt. Meriphataud, the entire bottom half of the map is a mess, it has a very convoluted design which is not fun to travel through. Delkfutt always felt too lazy and sparse to me.
I actually had fun in Delkfutt's Tower guiding people for missions. I miss this game... been gone like seven years now. For me what was most frustrating... oh man.. it's been so long I'm trying to remember... probably the area with Charybdis. the only reason is Because I had HORRIBLE luck there and had to camp him close to two weeks just for Joyeuse sword for pld. Even Black Belt for my Monk wasn't as frustrating although it took a little longer because that at least progressd quickly for me although it was 3 different HNMs for the items
I like the list except for #1, sure the zone sucks, but you've really only gotta do it the one time to get a key, after that you just skip most of the tower to get to anything of interest, or at least back in the 75 days.
The level design team for this game was well beyond their time. I still haven’t played a game that came close to ff11
i'm JGott yeah, I wish it would have came out like 2020 with all the new tech coming out
100% agree. I had to give up on 14 just because I missed so much of the mechanics in 11.
I agree any game I've gotten since can't measure up to ffxi
The DDR-like reticule dodge mechanics of FFXIV fights are just stupidly boring.
No game has better zones, compared to,ff11 think about the layers of,zones in each region etc
Ffxi was that awesome gf you had that cooked food, cleaned the house, and kept you focused but you were to young to appreciate or understand it and now every other gf just seems so mediocre or not work it with a high price tag.
Ant Man Perfect.
excellent analogy lol and so true
This hits so close to home...😢
If you played back when mobs didnt despawn, you know how much of a pain Garlaige Shitadel was!
haha so many low level camps were like that, yuhtunga and yhoater jungle, crawlers nest. I think I just have a strange love for garliage because of my thf days blowin up beetles with viper bite
@@Huntin4GamesChannel the trains at the selbina zone into dunes. oh my god the dead noobs.
Yes! The Selbina music is easily my favorite and most memorable music in the game.
Another great video, thanks.
I've always had trouble with zones that have multiple maps. To this day I still get lost in Castle Oztroja.
Temple of Ugg, and both jungle zones outside. I was always lost and still get very lost
Ah but those are Zilart zones.
Am i the onky one that spent cou tless hours in meriphautad mountains playing ballista
Yep.
As much as I’ve played this game, I never touched PvP......actually I have never touched PvP in any traditional MMO
Good old days. Leveling in qufim island from level 15 - 21. I spend hours and hours looking for party avoiding those ghosts. Good times!
I still have vivid memories of that zone from back in the Zilart days. I remember that if you were camping by the tower, there was no going back to Jueno if it was night time due to the undead around the center lake point.
Chia Lee I agree, it made actually getting to fight things feel like a rare event that you should feel grateful for.
Qufim got a lot of shit but I actually really enjoyed leveling there because of the sceneary of the setting.
So this list is perfect, a bunch are going to show up for sure, but they're all Zilart! Next videos!
Huntin 4 Games OH, RIGHT! Hahahaha, I totally forgot you said original zones, my bad!
Haha nah I totally get it, I never actually even played when Zilart wasn't a part of the game
Loved Cauldron farming for wyvern skulls, had to make the wyvern helms on the spot, great zone.
Best MMO ever made... And it was that way because of the extreme difficulty.
Haha check out my worst Zilart zones... I think we may share some opinions for sure
From recent zones Yorcia weald... the map is useless
Emmanuel Arana dynamis - yuhtunga? 😂
I recall your first time going to Quifim, and having to dodge the Weapons in the tunnel.
I am ready for your next one and ready to hate on Ulegrand Range.
I used to farm Buffalo meat up there lol
It's the holes man the holes in the Maze and the bunnies they scare me and the Tigers.
Nah I don't hate it. I can't hate my favorite game
Crawler's Nest
Fun if you ever leveled BST
I loved crawler's nest! I loved the days when leveling up took actual effort
Nest easily top 5 for me. Flys had the AOE that always killed my wyvern, back when that was DRG 2-hour.
The necropolis what such a joy for paladin. Everything was intimidated by you. I also enjoyed helping newbies with paper. I did that for a long time.
About Delkfault's tower you forgot about those invisible pit fall traps in the center of those rooms lol
This game kinda freaks me out sometime xD
But for me the worst were Garlaige & Eldiem for obvious door reason :P Special mention to Beaucedine... especially after the [S] version got out with those shortcuts that was't implemented to the old version :(
Haha other zones I could do this, but the tower... I dunno I just always get lost
Stop making me want to play FFXI again lol
When I was doing Zilart with friends one of our friends kept falling through the holes in the tower floor lol
Mariphataud Mountains... I literally had to look that place back up. I remember it for riding to Sanctuary of Zi’tah and for doing AF coffers at castle oz. I haven’t played the game in a LONG time, but I still feel weird that I forgot about that zone lol.
All the other zones I remember well. Especially the Necropolis. Terrible m!!
Ive honestly never had an issue running delkfuut. The secret is looking at the map, and going the direction that would take you the longest. Always the correct answer.
Ffxi was far from perfect but something about the way all of its components came together made it the best MMO and one of the most rewarding games you could ever play. What a game
Actualy all the zones were "the worst" zones. That is what makes this game so magical and worth remembering.
Funny thing is Delkfutt's Tower and The Eldieme Necropolis were two of my favorite places to lvl.
Great list. Miss this game, especially before they raised the level cap from 75.
Eldieme necropolis had a great concept, the doors killed it
Fricken doors
I agree it had a great concept, but for me it was the layout as you had to go through multiple entrances depending where you wanted to go, though it wasn't difficult it was a bit offputting.
@@Shaunicans that was rally annoying too
Some of my best and favorite ballista memories are from Meriphataud mountains.
When it launched for ps2 we got all the stuff to play it for my gf a taru whm from bastok(I was upset about that lol)
Anyway we played in the same room and having a whm always with me made grouping quicker.
SirVyre tomb was such a happy place for MNK parties, though. I did quite a few merits on RDM/WHM...
Freakin camped the Spook in KRT too much. That mantle was stupidly overpriced.
All Lies! There were no bad zones. The challenge is what made it worth the play time.
I still play FFXI from time to time, I grown up with this game and I will NEVER delete my characters! Taru Master Race!! But all of them are nice! ^^
I will always remember Valkrum Dunes and Qufim Island. So many memories (good and bad).
"But if you lost track, shit got just so confusing" lol Facts
The zone with the hobgoblins or whatever with all the wooden bridge paths was prob my most hated zone. God I miss this game lol.
Had to laugh and comment, your #1 was my favorite farming zone for elemental clusters. Pretty much just got the key and dropped through the floors via the pits. Made millions as a rdm/thf for giggles.
What about Garlaige Shitadel? 1 misstep and doomed to die after falling down a hole or shouting to get people to help open the doors
haha this is true, Garliage is pretty awful. But at least it had some amazing camps for leveling through the low 30s and upper 40s.
But yeah the doors...
Huntin 4 Games I remember shouting for 2 hours for the doors so I could progress on my limit break quest as a poor SAM/WAR... scarred me forever
That's Garbage Shitadel. Fucking hated that zone.
Isn't that where Serket spawned?
I love the explanations as to why the zones are bad. Absolutely spot on and the second you mention the zone I end up saying to myself everything you're about to mention just before you mention it. I fucking hate passing through MMountains lol.
Attohwa Chasm has to be up there. trying to get to Tiamat was insane.
7: Garlaige Citadel [The Undead, The Weighted Doors..]
6: Delkfutts Tower [My Sneak & Invisible is wearing off...]
5: The Eldieme Necropolis [The Undead, The Doors]
4: Davoi / Beadeaux!! / Castle Oztroja!!! [All annoying with their stupid puzzles and segregated Beastman]
3: Castle Zvahl Keep & Baileys [Many many different Beastman, yet still segregated]
2: Qufim Island [The Noobga bunch that somehow made it to 20, that aggroed to everything]
1: Valkurm Dunes!!! [Where the average rate of experience was more loss than gain!!!] [A spike in broken monitors rose at those times]
I would have ranked Castle Oztroja as worse than Delfutt’s tower.
A few have said this, and it was pretty nasty haha. But I just loved the whole yag stronghold concept, and the ochimusha kote nm!
Interestingly enough, Meriphataud is a popular Qufim alternative for exp parties on HorizonXI right now in 2023.
I lived in delkfut from like 2004-2006 made hundreds of millions off of Pallas and Alkyoneus. For some reason on my server hardly anyone ever camped them and the rmt wasnt strong enough to handle the dangerous zone. By far my favorite zone.
I legit made the "dog/baby just tasted a lemon face" when you said Eldieme Necropolis. Such an awful zone before the key item for the doors.
Boyahda was Zilart
I remember the sanctuary of zitah was a great but dangerous place to level. It was very confusing my first 3 journeys
At one point of playing 11 on the xbox I remember taking the Selbina song and using it for the background music for lots of things. Selbina is best zone.
One of the best real MMORPG ever created !
Garlaige Citadel, Eldieme Necropolis, Labyrinth of onzozo, Castle Ozroja, Beaudeux were tough, remember Beaucedine Glacier with big storms and no map... that was challenging
You forgot to mention Waraxe Beak in Meriphataud Mountains :D
For me personally, I like Mhaura. I came from Bastok, so I was naturally in Selina often. The change was pretty nice.
Haha.... I have castle oz and the tower memorised. I literally never pull maps up in there. Sky on the other hand....
Surprised not to see Bostaunieux Oubliette represented here. The zone that required San'dOrian fame level 3 or 4 to enter and was not fun to navigate.
wasnt Delfucks tower the one that had the Giga that dropped the Eurytoes bow? yea, me and my roomate lived there one summer farming that NM for the Bow.
It's because of all this zone that make your heart pumping and wanted more. The adrenaline and the reward sense of accomplishment.
King Ranperre's Tomb
Was always a hated one of mine. Starting a new character and going there to rank up or level....god that place.
Are you playing on a free public server like nasomi's? If so would you mind sharing please.
Good old times camping the NM for emperor’s hairpin
I like the list except for #1, sure the zone sucks, but you've really only gotta do it the one time to get a key, after that you just skip most of the tower to get to anything of interest, or at least back in the 75 days.
