@@sagepirotess6312 With how things have been lately, I think everyone's been losing track of time. I don't blame anyone for forgetting, especially without much to look forward to!
@@neopolitaneagle212 not at all. This guy and I like him makes his living off ffxi, on RUclips. But the dates been known long ago. As for his expectations. It dont matter. Most the time he plays on private servers. He doesn't have a Rema weapon max. Nor most armor. And that's not knocking him. But him saying he wanted and expected it, but never did old content is kinda meh.
Well...it's now May 17th in Japan & there was no big announcement. Someone on Reddit speculated that the news was likely going to be FFXI Mobile but since that project was canned they no longer have anything to announce. Going forward, if there is anything to look forward to it will be from the XI community. It's pretty safe to assume at this point Square Enix has no big plans for FFXI & I doubt they ever will.
Just curious, after they announced the big surprise thing 3 years ago, did they follow up on it at all between then and now? Any more mentions anywhere besides the initial announcement? If not, I just feel like most likely their plans changed, especially after the pandemic, and we’re all just trying to hold on a piece of string here.
Thanks for this update. Given what's been said and done in the last few years it's not too much of a shock that nothing big has come for the 20th. It is sort of ironic how the game has always been a kind of wiki simulator where we have to look everything up to progress, and now we have to look up what they said at that livestream.
I was expecting something huge because they got that 3 years of funding. Probably a huge expansion and voiced story along with it. Maybe they're planning on it for later.
Sending this message on May 16th, so Happy 20th Anniversary!! Yeah, FFXI players are pretty much forced to be patient, and depending on how you see it, be very forgiving. Maybe we should make our own anniversary celebration! I'll be spending 17th of May (Norway's Constitution Day) playing the game on retail/Quetz! I recently started a new alt to stream for friends who have never played before. I try to mainly stream quests and missions. But I notice that grinding is easier now, so I'm levelling a lot of jobs that I normally couldn't before. I've always enjoyed the grinding, and it's something I miss when I play FFXIV. Even in Eureka, players stopped the party grind and went over to chasing the NM fates. If Yoshi-P had made mp and hp not return so easily, and we had to sit and wait to recover those, then players could have a breather, and maybe socialise?? As for FFXI. I'm not grinding for endgame, I'm mostly just playing to enjoy the game I love, at my own pace. I'm sure there are fun things waiting"at the end of the rainbow" but I'm content to just go around and be re-amazed by my fave game, ever. The story and the exploration were always my fave part. I have diminished object permeance, so it's a lot of fun seeing it all over again, but with hazy memories of dangerous places. I'm also sad when I feel like FFXI keeps getting the shorter end of the stick. This game kept the lights on for FFXIV. It paid for a lot of the other games that came after. Like a really patient older sibling. Doing a lot of work, but getting little to no credit. I just wish... That SE would at least validate them, and that FF fans would stop looking down on it without even trying it... Yoshi-P being in charge of FFXI's business sector is really scaring me. While I appreciate his work for FFXIV, I'm also worried what he'll do for this game. He always sounds so annoyed when I see ppl bring up FFXI. Though he has placed a couple of references to FFXI in his game. So I think maybe he just wishes the players saw them as separate games, not linked (aside for all the monster models they share haha). Okay this is a ramble now, but thank you so much for always staying true to yourself H4G!! As a Norwegian, getting any news, is pretty tricky, so I appreciate your videos!^^ I'll be happy as long as the 20th anniversary announcement isn't that the servers will shut down!!
Just to point something out while FFXI is not a bad game I go back once in awhile and work on a relic or something and have lots of fond memories of my time in XI. It's a bit to old school to draw in new players.Hiromichi Tanaka was lead producer of FFXIV 1.0 the current position Yoshi-P is in. Tanaka was removed because 1.0 was a massive failure as an MMORPG as the model they used was the same in XI, people just don't have the time to grind for hours every day for very little reward and the battle system is very boring it's the reason why people socialized because you had down time and even in endgame fights most players are made to sit in a corner and do nothing. For XI to get any sort of life out back into it there would need to be a lot of changes and ultimately that will never happen as the game has been left on life support for the last 5 years
They didn't neglect it. They just didn't want to rewrite it every few years to keep it relevent. Games generally do not age well. Why anyone would want to play FF11 when we have FF14 is really weird.
Its not being neglected, its getting the amount of attention that is warranted by its production. If it was producing, they would invest in it. as it is, its probably barely making more money than it takes to keep running. Its getting the amount of attention it deserves from SE.
@@NBGTFO idk. I guess you can ask people who are remaking the even older FF games. Like 7. And pixel remasters. Guess 7 aged well for a PS1 game and FFXI is a PS2 game. =/ versus 13 was PS3 then remade for PS4 and also remade into XV. BUT they did drop XV mid DLC's.
@@KillerDeadXero you can’t compare single player rpg to an active subscription based mmorpg like that. FFXI was great for its time but it makes no financial sense for square to invest heavily on it when FFXIV is doing so well. And I honestly don’t know where you are going with VS XIII argument… it’s not like the game got 3 remakes, they kept pushing the project back until they decided to rebrand it as.
I remember starting FFXI on PS2 when it was first released. I was in my Freshman year of highschool. I remember not having the money to play monthly, so I'd only get to play from time to time. I joined the military in 2006 and my real journey in FFXI started in May of 2007 when I got to my first duty station and had consistent money to play. I finally took a break in 2012 after I had my first child. Now I'm at close to 16 years Active duty, getting ready to retire in 4 years and I just started playing on the Eden server and it feels so good to jump back in now that I have time again and im winding down my military career. It's so amazing that after all these years I never stopped wanting to play. After trying all the other MMOs over the years, nothing grabs me like FFXI does. Can't wait to see what the future holds.
Regarding the stream, a friend told me that the japanese tend do have anniversary events like this exclusively for the japanese audience where they just talk about the game and recount stories and stuff like that without actually showing anything off or mentioning it to westerners. If anything, i expect proper any announcements tomorrow which is when the actual anniversary happens.
@@Huntin4GamesChannel I also felt the same, like have they forgotten about the U.S. and EU? Or forgot they had mention some big surprise? No hints or anything and I kind see them as almost nervous about the games health for the future. I don't care for the graphics but it would be nice, but UI fixes or more job classes or just a small taste of what is to come but i felt disappointed, but also thankful for them to try their very best, but FF11 needs their very own version of Yoshi-P.
@@Jozaros I find it ridiculous after all this time of going pc only they haven't done any patches upgrading the textures/graphics when even the fans have done it. Or added more content when it likely takes hardly any man power and the game likely still pulls in big money for them as in probably like 5 mil+ profit a year. They just want to milk it dry while doing absolutely nothing.
Thanks for the vid H4G. You made a really good point when you highlighted the fact we've had no official announcement stating that something is actually coming to celebrate the anniversary! I hope we haven't gotten excited for nothing lol. I read over some of the interviews on the 'We Are Vana'Diel' website and remember one where they were discussing the creation of the game's world map. I wasn't aware of just how much of the map the game hadn't covered, it would be pretty sweet if they announced something to bring that content, those areas, and all that untold lore to life. I have a lot of fond memories playing the game, took a big break from it, but then I came back to play again this year. Being completely honest, I returned to find the game isn't very 'new / returning player' friendly and it made me a little sad, though I completely understand that it is difficult to lay all that content out in a way that makes sense now. Still, I'm hoping that they announce something that allows us to start the experience all over again in a new way, a classic server or the console remaster maybe? That being said, to simply get the chance to play a completely new title that rivals the experience that Final Fantasy XI offers would actually be enough for me. I'm a father of two this time round so I'd like to bring my kids along on the next journey!
Watched some part of the live stream. It was cool here and there but it did lack the big announcement that they teased back with the introduction of the Voracious Resurgence new arc in 2020. They build up something and it feels like there is nothing now that we are celebrating this 20th anniversary. Lack of communication as you mentioned. Not the first time from FFXI team but still as a project part of the business division III it fell like they don't like that XI is still there and running...
Unfortunately the lack of anything moderately significant announced spells the beginning of the end for FFXI. I've been hovering, waiting to see what was coming and if it was worth a resub, and the answer is no. I really really dreamed of an announcement for FFXI-2, who knows maybe we'll get it once FFXI is dead.
So what I'm hearing is that FFXI update information is like FFXI quest information. Enigmatic info upfront that community has to figure out and post online.
It seems to me like the game is on its last leg at least in the minds of square enix, despite it actually having a pretty decent population of active players. I predict it won't be long now before the game goes into maintenance mode, where they keep servers up but not much else. I do think they will release one more big content update or two for the next year.
I certainly hope not! but this did sort of seem like more of a "what a wonderful 20 years, goodbye now!" kind of stream than a THE BEST YEARS ARE YET TO COME stream
@@Huntin4GamesChannel I hear you, my rational really stems from the type of company square enix has been shifting towards over the last decade. Most recent example the selling off of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal for only $300 million. These studios created two massively successful series of games tomb raider and Deus ex. Yet that success was not enough for current SE. Their recent game releases and talks about how excited they are over NFTs has me very worried. The point is, this is not the same square enix that created FFXI, hell this is a vastly different SE that the one that created FFXIV even. They seem hungry to chase short term profits and latest trends rather than do what has made them successful and take creative risks. In truth, I don't see this SE keeping FFXI going given where they've shown their priorities to be. If we are lucky, they will keep servers up and provide us with one or two more moderate content updates. Finish up what might already be in the works. I also think it is unrealistic for us to think that the game is closer to life than death at this point. I mean let's step back and be objective for a second, not let our emotions get the best of us, this is a 20-year-old online game. Deep down we all know it's closer to its end than it's beginning. I think we should enjoy it while it lasts.
The more I see things puttering out as we get closer to the 16th…my gut feeling is that the announcement from years ago was going to be related to the mobile remake….but then it got cancelled and they just didn’t have anything comparable to fill the gap. The game desperately needs a modern remaster, while keeping lots of the gameplay charms the original had…..but I doubt they are committed to that right now.
@@Huntin4GamesChannel - I wouldn’t put it passed them to leave the messaging as it builds more hype…and then rely on the fact that the player base has been conditioned over the past 10 years to be underwhelmed by SE not delivering as much as the player base was expecting/hoping them to…..but the players still subscribe….so it doesn’t matter.
My personal wishlist was kinda far-fetched but I still wanted it. -Brand new expac -new jobs -reworking of old systems (looking at you old relic weapons) -at the very least, untie ffxi from playonline.
Brought up a great point about how the livestream was presented. It was reminiscent of the way XI has treated non-regional players, as soon as I noticed there were no subtitles the old adage “JP only” came to mind. Despite the fact that NA customers are likely half the player base we’ll always be second class to them.
gotta admit, i'm kinda disappointed too. guess i expected a bit more for 20 years but on the other hand you're correct, probably my own fault for hoping for something bigger when they never explicitly said so
Well you remember how tight lipped they were around FF XII. It was in development with no information for 2 years before we even got a glimpse of anything aside from a coming soon poster.
I don't mean to be pessimistic but Yoshi P. Is technically in charge of FFXI and I can count on my hand how many times I've heard him talk about it. I don't even know if he likes the game. I know he played a ton of WOW and I can see how that influenced 14 but out of all the MMO's that he's said he's played FFXI or FFXI classic was never said once. Now I would assume he's had to at least make a character and understand FFXI currently but I've never heard any word on that. You would think that being how vocal Yoshi P. Is that he would have said something by now, especially since it's the 20th anniversary and since it took wow dying for FFXIV to finally overtake it financially this past year.
yeah I watched a video by Ginger Prime recently and that comment really struck a chord, I totally agree. He doesn't really seem to like or appreciate that classic style of grind, difficulty, etc. Which is fine, but makes it tough because he's currently in charge haha
@@Huntin4GamesChannel well so this is the weird and funny thing. 1. I saw the video you are mentioning and he literally just said what I think a lot of us have been thinking but haven't said. 2. I actually sent Brian aka. Ginger Prime a video a while back that was like 2 or 3 years old of Yoshi P. saying that basically because FFXI still has such a big following for its age and because it's profitable that he would do his best to make sure the game stays live. He also mentioned that he personally prefers more hardcore or older styled mmo's but he didn't specifically say FFXI or even "like FFXI". Idk if you've seen that video or not but if need be I can link it.
Felt pretty disappointed with the event overall but same time I wasn't surprised. SQEX can definitely overhype things and this was one of those times. I mean it's good the game is continuously being updated but same time I need that OMG factor to really shake things up but I'm probably expecting too much. Starting to think me returning to the game isn't looking too great.
I came back to the game from 2018-2020 and when i stopped subbing again, I had in the back of mind, "I'll be back in 2022 for that big 20th anniversary whatever they have been teasing." Seems like there's no hurry :(
Love your videos! I wanna play again but can't get my ps4 controller to work. Went in configuration.. works there but not when I use my guy. I can control the camera but that's it. Any recommendations?
Hi H4G. Thanks for all the content you do for all the mmorpgs you do all these years. I know the anniversary is slated for Monday the 16th just dont know a time or site yet. I really hope that 11 comes back to console or at least classic edition or merge with a 14 subscription. This galkan blu/sch on phoenix has missed gathering all the new spells and content since 2016. I also hope there is a still a mobile game does get a 2nd chance as well even if not made by nexon.
I speak and read Japanese, ive have seen the stream but im not good in to putting what i herd in to writing. I live in Japan in for 14 years and also returned to the game last year and a beta player from 2002 and left in 2010 and I'm here to stay its addicting and i see alot people coming back❤🙏🙏❤ good job 4games for all your videos towards the love ffxi🙏t
Unfortunately, even FFXIV only gets live translations for only the most important live letters, like pre-expansion ones. The most we get for all the others are the bullet points on the slides being translated. Other than that, we either have to rely on the community or wait for the official digest on the forums. So as much as that sucks, the chances of XI getting live translated streams are very low.
Thought it was going to be like an optional remastered purchasable download that would overhaul the graphics but keep the world the same. Maybe like a console release for nostalgic sake haha.
I still think too many people are just glancing over the new REMA-tier weapons. In 20 years we've only had 4. What if these weapons are a new tier of Mythics? Something truly job changing, game changing, leading into a new era of content? Most other games' communities would be so incredibly hyped by this. And honestly? The XI community HAS been in the past. I still remember the hype around mythics and empyreans. My LS was so freaking excited about Empyreans when they were first announced. Like, really. In a game where almost everyone has 4/4 to like 10/10 REMAs for their main, and likely even off-mains, and many people have dozens... A new REMA means: New content. New balance. Probably new WSes. New job mechanics. New combat mechanics/changes. That's [redacted] huge. Brd getting new songs? Geo getting something other than idris? Maybe a REMA handbell? DRK potentially getting a scythe that's actually worth using? PLD getting even more busted than ever before? Sign me the [redacted] up.
Has someone else been streaming for years FFXI it makes me hard pressed to come back to retail when the treatment of the EU/US community seems so sparse. But I keep hyping them up to give them a chance. I want to see the game continue to evolve
@@dakumauler If their only plans for the 20th anniversary was to mention they had plans for it so people would re sub around then then give nothing I hope it fails and shuts down finally. Then the private servers would feel more era like with those people migrating to them :)
14:45 to me and many others like me who outsource our community representation to excellent and committed content creators like yourself: please believe it heaves a sour taste in my mouth as well. What a slap in the face to not even bother outsourcing a few extra dollars on professional localization. I hear SEv is being bought so it stands to reason these problems will get worse. And worse than that, any problems that MIGHT be addressed won't likely even be sourced from our particular side of the community
@@Huntin4GamesChannel more like hurtful. :( because tbh the developers involvement and love for their community and project was palpable in how they addressed community concerns (even though they at times missed problems by a lightyear). This just seemed like a release treated with so much negligence it borders on deliberate
I feel that I'm on the same page. I got hopeful there would be a plan B to the mobile game cancelation. I'll remain stoked that the game still is or ever was though! -And that Goblin plush is so awesome👌
yeah I'm sort of feeling the same. I'm not going to spend months and millions of gil (probably) to build up this incredibly powerful weapon to do....teh content i'm already doing
Is FFXI still using Playonline? If so, does it still do the slow agonizing updates? It's the only reason I haven't taken the time to return too the retail version.
I resubbed to XI cause of the 20th anniversary and was hoping console support coming to build the player base and community more than it is now or even an ARR version of it coming out later on but thats all wishful thinking. The game in general is still very fun to play and im actually able to finish the story lines now like TOAU cause i was left at black coffin and couldnt get a group for it cause of my gear at that time
100% agree with a sour feeling on the 20th anniversary presentation. SE themselves built up a "wait and see how awesome" the 20th anniversary was going to be. For about 2 yrs the hype was big and the announcent of the 5hr stream was like the ball dropping on New Years. Well the ball was dropped...pun intended...but I wasnt exactly cheering. We all had crazy ideas and expectations that are not going to happen however coming soon more Master lvls, + Empy Gear and Weapons. The release of story content & lvl progression is exciting for a so called "dead game" but the presentation was lackluster and a letdown.....
They should have done something for the 20th anniversary. A handful of my friends were hoping for a remaster/remake because they couldn't stand the old graphics and the god awful UI, with the UI being the most common gripe.
There not gonna show anything tomorrow. If it was anything big they should of teased it already and showed it off in the live letter or E3 if it was a remake.
supposed to be Tuesday night! Work is already looking like it might get in the way, so depending on what happens tomorrow maybe i'll squeeze one in Monday night. if not, wednesday maybe? next week will be weird haha
There are no amount of active campaigns SE can do that will ever suffice for the let down the May 2022 update was. From the lack of info to the actual update, disappointment. I'm sure we're all hyped for Reforged Empy, but I believe that was the time to drop it.
I only caught 2 hours of it and they talked about Granblue for those 2 hours. Last I checked it was FFXI's 20 year anniversary no Grandblue. Also more of the same completely neglecting the NA/EU audiences with it only being in Japanese with no subtitles or translations.
after watching most of that stream...im still confused & feel no exitement. Basicly nothing new & amazing is coming to FFXI. No remake, no-remaster, no console re-release, no FFXI classic, no new expansion. Here's to another 20years of maintenance mode for the game i love. Broken Heart,
@@Huntin4GamesChannel It probably barely makes a profit. why should they care about it? Just because you and a small few still love it, doesn't explain why SE should care about the game, when its barely a producer for them.
A simple FFXI classic server would fix a lot. Most of the upset players seem to be the nostalgia seekers who have no interest in more solo content. Give us our time machine!!
Thing is you can already get FFXI classic pretty accurately right now by playing on a private server. The fan base is already filling that need. There are all sorts of private servers setup at different content cap levels.
@@jeremyvanpelt5097 In my opinion the private servers don't have the same feel as the original ffXI servers. It also takes an act of god to get into a serious HNMLS. An official ffxi clasic server would also have more then 1500 people during prime time. The private servers are cool but they still lack the feel of original ffxi for most players. If you have a very active LS or have a lot of buddies on the server it's probably closer to the original experience but solo to me it just feels empty.
The "something big" promise never happened. The community perpetuated the hype themselves, SE never promised any announcements for new content during the livestream, they only ever stated that it was a celebration event. Most people cite the 44th Freshly Picked as the source of the claim of "something big" coming for the 20th anniversary, however if you read it in context, they're simply talking about how budgeting works and use extremely vague words like "hypothetically" and "even if we wanted to...". SE did not at all build hype over the past two years for a major announcement for the 20th. Comparing the development of this game to any other live service game is simply unfair. The development team for this game is bare-bones, they don't have the budget or manpower to push through an expansion, much less a game overhaul, and even far less a remake/remaster/Classic/etc. These were all unreasonable expectations that were never once hinted at by the team. What more content do players want? I walk around and see 75%+ of players wearing non-augmented Odyssey gear. The playerbase isn't even participating in the content that's available, why do they *need* more? Despite this, there is actually more coming. Voracious Resurgence is only half way complete, with the Empyrean +2/3 battle content coming with it. Master levels are only increasing. How many players have all their jobs at ML30 that didn't just easyfarm their way to max? There's still tons to do in this game, and there is more stuff to come. Enjoy the content we are getting while we get it. We aren't entitled to continual content updates, yet we are still getting them. SE could decide the cost of the game isn't worth the upkeep and pull the plug whenever their hearts so desire.
Always the same old excuses not to update the game... SE had a lot of time to address all that already instead of coming up with excuses. Sad truth is that FFXI never trully ever got back all the money it generates over the years most of its profit since FFXIV went into XIV, right after XIV they should've thought about modernizing XI since it's a very different genre. SE definetly has the money to do it, and more and more people are wanting old game genres revivals and more challenging old school gameplay, nostalgia is a huge market that little by little is finding a faithful audience into every genre, from old school retro FPS games to things like Elden Ring for example. It's a matter of time before it reaches the MMO genre as well and people start wanting more classic MMO experiences instead of the current norm that is FFXIV style. Think of FFXIV as Call or Duty and FFXI as Doom, we need a Doom 2016 : ) . Compleatly different type of sub genre, can't compare and doesn't compete directly against one another. I know MANY people that would love to pay and play XI bur can't get past all the barriers together: PlayOnline, resolution, 30FPS limit, very bad targeting and graphics, interface, instalation, account creation, UI not supporting mouse use nor having a basic shortcut bar, lack of hability to alt tab, etc., it's just too much altogether really. If it was just one of those, it would already be annoying but bearable, alas combining every one of those together is just too much. They should really incorporate some mods functions into the game already. At the very least. All those things truly are not much, not asking for huge changes or improvements, many games before XI did that and more with ease, many ports from consoles to PC improved games well beyond all I listed. I'm just tired of SE always coming up with the same lackluster excuses not modernize XI, same goes for their "demasters" of VIII, IX and Chrono Cross. They should sell the old Final Fantasy and other IPs they don't care about to smaller companies that would do justice to them. It's trully embarrassing and shameful the way they treat anything that doesn't make huge amounts of money like XIV or close to it, even if it once paid their bills and is an important part their heritage. XI needs a Daybreak behind it, for all it's flaws, it treats EQ1 and 2 much better than SE does XI.
They literally cant. Since they don't have the source code anymore. That's why they cant really shut down private servers, since they cant produce the original code to say its theirs.
Even if they don't have the code they can get it. If a company like blizzard could do it with the same issues I am sure square could if the enough fans wanted it.
I saw it.... I was kind of disappointed but I keep telling people that they are making it a surprise. So I guess it makes sense that they haven't shown anything yet? I dunno. Editing this, There was no surprise. I am sad and even more disappointed. I got a feeling they just do not care about FFXI anymore. :/
I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed as well with both the format and the content of the livestream. That being said, here's hoping something interesting happens tomorrow on the "actual" anniversary. And if tomorrow comes and goes with nothing, I'm always the optimist and believe that something major will happen eventually. It could be that they had something big planned for the anniversary years in advance but were set back due to global events or something. For example: if they were planning any sort of remake/classic servers, that would require actual servers to support it. And as we've seen with FF14 recently, it's still really difficult for companies to acquire the necessary hardware for that stuff right now. So idk, maybe they just aren't ready to reveal what they've been cooking up. But here's hoping there's still something on the horizon.
My thoughts, as a 10 year FFXIV, FFXI, and 25 year long fan of Final Fantasy. I want to first say, that its quite strange to see a FFXI player disappointed by the stream, and I know many of you are. I would like to try to add a different perspective, even though I feel its okay for these players to be disappointed. Here is why: -FFXIV has significantly more funding from SE than FFXI... ...and XIV has seen little to no new content over the last 9 years. FFXIV is 100% predictable in terms of patches and content, and over the last 4 years has seen a dramatic reduction in recycled content in terms of fewer dungeons (which means fewer glamour items), jobs being released at higher levels (fewer glamour items), fewer patch updates (4 months instead of 3.5 months, 2 extra weeks), etc the list goes on. -FFXI is getting brand new story missions (Voracious Resurgence) added/new progression (Mastery levels) and new gear (both Prime weapons, and Empyrean+3) Which is very confusing why people are saying there is nothing new coming. -The anniversary is officially the 16th. Even though the anniversary hasn't arrived, with the mentioned above, they already released brand new content, and continue to release those pieces of content, I personally feel they have already gone high above a normal expectation. With the Voracious Resurgence, Mastery Levels, and adding gear, not to mention, just about literally every campaign going all at once, I do not feel there is a need for anything else to come. -As someone switching from XIV over 6 months ago full time from playing off and on, I couldnt ask for anything more. I already feel FFXI exceeds FFXIV in terms of existing and new content. With XI, gear is meaningful, and stays with the character from level 50+ up through item level and beyond. I have literally farmed up entire relics in FFXIV just to throw them on the ground after obtaining achievement points (the only motivation to obtain said relic, as the item itself is useless almost immediately.) So I would like FFXI players to take a second look at how XIV is treated and how XI is treated. Do you really want FFXIV where your gear is immediately worthless, and you repeat the same cycles every 6 months? At least with XI every piece of content is little to nothing like the previous, and gear across all levels has value, meaning, and your characters and stats all have purpose beyond just lockstyle. I am excited to continue FFXI, and I hope others will join me and the many others in Vana'diel for another 20 years!
@@Huntin4GamesChannel thanks. I’m glad you didn’t take it wrong. I completely understand the frustration, as I felt the exact same about FFXIV for so long. To me FFXI is such a breath of fresh air and I’ve been enjoying it more than I ever have. It’s justifiable to be upset. They could be more transparent, especially for the English speaking fans.
sorry but NO this is why a company becomes complacent. USA players were ok with the scraps square left on the table and its not ok. its square fault that players were expecting something since they were the ones that HYPED the 20 anni. NOT US, it was them.
The problem is the new mastery system and the new emperyen stuff break the game even more. Mastery system make ffxi too easy and casual, the game has already been made too easy since raphsody of vana'diel, making it even more casual is bad. FFXI players don't want the game to become like Ffxiv who is the worst Mmorpg exemple to follow. Square enix don't seem to understand that ffxi players want oldschool expérience, there is a reason why private server like eden or wing exist, the actual FFXI gameplay is boring.
@@delukard07 I didn’t say XI and XIV can’t be better. I was putting things into perspective as a XIV player as well. In my opinion XI feels to be doing more than what XIV is. At least with XI content has varying experiences. XIV is literally just the same content type from level 15 to 90.
Well the way they didnt care at all about the English speaking part of the community reminds me of being dead in game and a JP player comes by and asks "JP?" I say no and they walk away leaving you dead no raise. Or the JP Only group messages. I came away from ffxi thinking that the JP players dont like English speaking players for no good reason at all. An R word comes to mind but oh well...
IMHO there is no point in playing ffxi now. the charm is long gone , ffxi became a modern morpg with obsolete elements and an abysmal ui. FFXI was different because there was something to do for everyone at every level. it was balanced that way, and you ALWAYS needed people for doing it and because of that there was a big community, thats why people tolerated square , FFXi was a special game. now you have to rush to lv99 to start playing with people and the only thing you play for with other people is to raise the IL. it wasn't like that. i have much much more fun on a p.server like wings or eden then on retail.
100% - I agree that this is my biggest complaint about XI right now. It continues to expand vertically with new stronger gear ( which is frustrating) and basicallly killed off 95% of its content as meaningful.
I disagree you outgrew it and it's ok. But it's still a fine game. Many games you hyped shut down or ftp. Everyone who plays ffxi still pays so enough care about it.
SE has been stringing its base along. I eventually realized that the ROI wasn’t worth it. PS2 limitations aside, XI is better served by closing servers than to keep taking fans money and delivering the same increasingly grindy and boring experiences.
"Grindy and boring" are very subjective. As a release player, I still absolutely love XI and play. But hey, to each their own; Long live the best MMO in the last 20 years.
The actual anniversary is tomorrow. May 16th 2002
Thanks! I couldn’t remember if that’s when they were kicking off the celebration, or was the actual day. Fingers crossed!!
Kinda sad you didn't know the day.

20 years and I started 17 years ago best game I ever played. How time flies.
Right! Insane
Thanks for this update. Given what's been said and done in the last few years it's not too much of a shock that nothing big has come for the 20th. It is sort of ironic how the game has always been a kind of wiki simulator where we have to look everything up to progress, and now we have to look up what they said at that livestream.
I tried my best to translate that morning in a live stream on my channel. Was quite a junky setup. But I tried.
I was expecting something huge because they got that 3 years of funding. Probably a huge expansion and voiced story along with it. Maybe they're planning on it for later.
hope so!
As a Norwegian, getting any news, is pretty tricky, so I appreciate your videos!^^
I'll be happy as long as the 20th anniversary announcement isn't that the servers will shut down!!
Agree with everything you said. I also play the same way.
For XI to get any sort of life out back into it there would need to be a lot of changes and ultimately that will never happen as the game has been left on life support for the last 5 years
FF11 is still my favorite MMO of all time, it's a shame it's been neglected for so long by SE.
@@NBGTFO also. Why pro players perfer to play smash bros GameCube version rather than the switch ultimate version is beyond me =/.
Hopefully! That’s interesting maybe it’s just a cultural difference
So, today is tomorrow. What was announced?
@@faverodefavero nothing. Just more TVR and leading up to reskined ultimate relic weapon grinds. Just regular update content nothing new new

ok that sounds right, the dark relics was just heavily implied.
I feel this in every way, I was hoping for something or a hint or any English translation, but we all share this passion for their game.
when it went live Iwas like oh, I should have expected that. I was legitimately surprised when I came back a week later and there still was nothing
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep I agree and many of us are upset about this.
Bs, take them on the ffxi journey. Still no game has a better blue mage, Scholar or weapon building.
Not the first time from FFXI team but still as a project part of the business division III it fell like they don't like that XI is still there and running...
yeah this summed it up perfectly
Unfortunately the lack of anything moderately significant announced spells the beginning of the end for FFXI. I've been hovering, waiting to see what was coming and if it was worth a resub, and the answer is no. I really really dreamed of an announcement for FFXI-2, who knows maybe we'll get it once FFXI is dead.
I wanted something future proofing. Like the cloud servers thing. I just wanna know some specifics on the back end that'll tell me it'll stay running
The game desperately needs a modern remaster, while keeping lots of the gameplay charms the original had…..but I doubt they are committed to that right now.
oh that would be interesting, there was still that tie in back then. would be crazy if they just never changed the messaging at all lol
If you guys are interested there is a ff Xi event in granblue fantasy going on right now.
very cool that they're doing the crossover!
My personal wishlist was kinda far-fetched but I still wanted it.
-Brand new expac
-new jobs
-reworking of old systems (looking at you old relic weapons)
-at the very least, untie ffxi from playonline.
would be awesome to see! here's to hoping haha
Brought up a great point about how the livestream was presented. It was reminiscent of the way XI has treated non-regional players, as soon as I noticed there were no subtitles the old adage “JP only” came to mind. Despite the fact that NA customers are likely half the player base we’ll always be second class to them.
gotta admit, i'm kinda disappointed too. guess i expected a bit more for 20 years
but on the other hand you're correct, probably my own fault for hoping for something bigger when they never explicitly said so
Well you remember how tight lipped they were around FF XII.
I came back to the game from 2018-2020 and when i stopped subbing again, I had in the back of mind, "I'll be back in 2022 for that big 20th anniversary whatever they have been teasing." Seems like there's no hurry :(
still tons of reason to play the game in my opinion, but yeah I'm just a little stumped
At this point Square needs to just hire you as a PR person, or something.

If nothing else it made me finally take the plunge and try XI for the first time. Late to the party or not, I'm enjoying it!
glad to hear it! there's a ton of great content to get through, enjoy it!!!
I really wana se a revival of the reboot of FFXI
I think a lot of people were hoping for that, agreed. not sure if we'll see it, but hopefully we'll get more news tomorrow!
Maybe like a console release for nostalgic sake haha.
haha I think this is everyone's greatest hope (at least the classic community fans)
Did you see the article on Massively OP about mocking up a Final Fantasy XI-2? Love to hear your thoughts
Ah FF11 the thing that gave me utmost feeling of joy during my teen's. Til this day have always loved it since release.

What a slap in the face to not even bother outsourcing a few extra dollars on professional localization. I hear SEv is being bought so it stands to reason these problems will get worse. And worse than that, any problems that MIGHT be addressed won't likely even be sourced from our particular side of the community

Building a REMA 2 or whatever is fine, that’s one thing… but if there’s no new content to use it on, it’s really kind of off putting as an idea.

I resubbed to XI cause of the 20th anniversary and was hoping console support coming to build the player base and community more than it is now or even an ARR version of it coming out later on but thats all wishful thinking. The game in general is still very fun to play and im actually able to finish the story lines now like TOAU cause i was left at black coffin and couldnt get a group for it cause of my gear at that time
I'm hoping for a re release on the current generation of consoles
that would be awesome!
they dont want ffxi to compete with xiv on consoles....
The release of story content & lvl progression is exciting for a so called "dead game" but the presentation was lackluster and a letdown.....
haha ball dropped definitely, hopefully something big coming tomorrow, we'll see
Had hallow hope for classic just in case they were trying to feint people when they said they couldn't do it all those years ago
Still possible! But I’d be very surprised at this point, would be awesome though
Any stats to back up that the game has been growing?
They should have done something for the 20th anniversary. A handful of my friends were hoping for a remaster/remake because they couldn't stand the old graphics and the god awful UI, with the UI being the most common gripe.
There not gonna show anything tomorrow. If it was anything big they should of teased it already and showed it off in the live letter or E3 if it was a remake.
Yeah, it is kinda frustrating, when's your next stream btw? :)
supposed to be Tuesday night! Work is already looking like it might get in the way, so depending on what happens tomorrow maybe i'll squeeze one in Monday night. if not, wednesday maybe? next week will be weird haha
Welcome back buddy! been looking out for your videos! :)
There are no amount of active campaigns SE can do that will ever suffice for the let down the May 2022 update was. From the lack of info to the actual update, disappointment. I'm sure we're all hyped for Reforged Empy, but I believe that was the time to drop it.
Not sure why the surprise as N/A players have been getting screwed in this game since it's N/A launch.
No English translations was pretty disappointing
I only caught 2 hours of it and they talked about Granblue for those 2 hours. Last I checked it was FFXI's 20 year anniversary no Grandblue. Also more of the same completely neglecting the NA/EU audiences with it only being in Japanese with no subtitles or translations.
after watching most of that stream...im still confused & feel no exitement.

We feel the same as you. They have failed us.
What they need to do is put it back on series X/S and PS5.
The XI merch is way overpriced in the EU and NA store. The mug is less then 25 Euro in the JP store and 45 Euro in the EU store.
I just wanted an official 75 era server. WoTG lost me and everytime I've been back just was kinda meh. They crunched Alexander into other servers.
I miss Eden lol but i hope they would just make a remake of ffxi 75 era
They literally cant. Since they don't have the source code anymore. That's why they cant really shut down private servers, since they cant produce the original code to say its theirs.
@@raoinshishiza152 breaking my heart lol
oh wow, this would be a crazy reason that they continue to allow it haha. "we technically can't prove its our s anymore"
@@Huntin4GamesChannel yeah I remember eden having some “cease and desist” issue before 🤔
Even if they don't have the code they can get it.
But here's hoping there's still something on the horizon.
can't believe tomorrow's the day! keeping my eyes peeled for news!

lol? huh lol?
My thoughts, as a 10 year FFXIV, FFXI, and 25 year long fan of Final Fantasy.
I want to first say, that its quite strange to see a FFXI player disappointed by the stream, and I know many of you are. I would like to try to add a different perspective, even though I feel its okay for these players to be disappointed.
Here is why:
-FFXIV has significantly more funding from SE than FFXI...
...and XIV has seen little to no new content over the last 9 years.
-FFXI is getting brand new story missions (Voracious Resurgence) added/new progression (Mastery levels) and new gear (both Prime weapons, and Empyrean+3)
Which is very confusing why people are saying there is nothing new coming.
I have literally farmed up entire relics in FFXIV just to throw them on the ground after obtaining achievement points (the only motivation to obtain said relic, as the item itself is useless almost immediately.)
So I would like FFXI players to take a second look at how XIV is treated and how XI is treated. Do you really want FFXIV where your gear is immediately worthless, and you repeat the same cycles every 6 months? At least with XI every piece of content is little to nothing like the previous, and gear across all levels has value, meaning, and your characters and stats all have purpose beyond just lockstyle.
I am excited to continue FFXI, and I hope others will join me and the many others in Vana'diel for another 20 years!
well said! Glad to hear there's still a positive reaction to the experience in the community! really appreciate this great write up
@@Huntin4GamesChannel thanks. I’m glad you didn’t take it wrong. I completely understand the frustration, as I felt the exact same about FFXIV for so long.
To me FFXI is such a breath of fresh air and I’ve been enjoying it more than I ever have. It’s justifiable to be upset. They could be more transparent, especially for the English speaking fans.
sorry but NO
this is why a company becomes complacent.
That's funny I been raised by many JP speaking players in FFXI for years I sorry that had a bad time. Guess depends on your server.
I dunno - kinda weak for a 5 hour stream. They should of dropped something big imo
@@sagepirotess6312
you disagree that its a different game?
please tell me how ffxi is the same game as before.
I though it was going to be a nothing burger. Looks like it was.
Very disappointing , was expecting something big , I have my doubt for the May 16th stream . At this point if it isn’t a remaster release it DOA
give me legacy servers or give me death!
this video was hard to watch... 16 minutes repeating the same thing. translation, stream time and empyrean weapons.
But hey, to each their own; Long live the best MMO in the last 20 years.
you kill this game with your face
