Another good vid. I brought the base cayman 987 as I plan to keep it for ever and the ims and bore scoring on the S model would always be on my mind. Spot on with cost, I allow £500 per year to run my polo and £1,000 for the cayman in terms of service, mot and maintenance. Small difference for the amount of fun. I’ve also noticed prices go up, but I think it’s more seasonal factor. Before you could get straight ones for under £11k now it’s only cat c or d
Thank you! My S does worry me but it’s going to make some good content either way. Interesting about the prices! Hoping they do go up. Would be nice to come out up £££. Thanks again!
Good to see you at ease with the car Joe. Dave below is right. Just get on with it. Re IMS, S models prone are engines up to no. 61504715. Re bore score, keep your eye on the oil consumption bars but remember it should use up to 1.5 litres per 1000km anyway, so, just because it uses some doesn’t mean it’s toast😉. If it’s sitting in the garage like mine, it will puff out blue smoke initially. If it’s constant, then🤭. Good to see yours out on the road.
Thank you:) it uses oil but heard they all do. Just going to enjoy it and if the worst happens make some videos on it 🤣 heard they can be bored out to 3.8 so that would be interesting 😂 thanks for the comment👍
Around 2017/2018 I was looking at this generation cayman for a good year trying to find the spec i wanted. I can confidently and honestly say, that in the UK, the prices have creeped up. They have been creeping up since early 2019. I have ended up buying a 65plate pdk with sports chrono 2.7 981 generation cayman. The best car ever! To those sitting on the fence, if you can afford one...i definately reccomend any generation cayman...for me, id say a 2.7 981 is sufficient for the road. I do reccomend sports chrono amd the sports exhaust options if you can get them. Reliability wise, so far, after nearly 3 yrs of ownership, it jasn't put a foot wrong. Only fuel and services so far! Due a thre change real soon other than that nothing!
The 981 2.7 is a little more powerful this isn’t it? Coupled with the PDK it can’t be far of a 987 S. looks like the prices are only going one way now:) nice to know.
It just got delievered and the check engine light came on within a few minutes! Extremely odd as I drove it v enthusiastically on the test drive for a good hour with no issues. Car drives the same with the light on, but dealer has promised to foot the bill of whatever the issue may be. They think it’s just a sensor - I hope so! ruined my big day smh
@@EnjinTale it was just the O2 sensor thankfully, got it replaced at Tower Bridge Porsche courtesy of the dealer. I’ve been loving it so far. Everything about it. I’ve taken hundreds of pics 🤣 and get compliments on the car quite regularly. I’ve also somehow managed to get a video of some primary school kids making their mum take pics of them in front of my car during the summer holidays. That moment alone made the purchase worth it. I regularly thank God whenever I walk up to it 🤣. I’m infatuated if you couldn’t already tell.
I really wouldn't sweat the bore scoring nonsense. Change the oil every 5000 miles and don't beat the snots out of it, you'll be ok. Also , if tiptronic work's for you, then the heck what anyone thinks. You do you man. I have a stick and get a little nervous rolling to a stop in the middle of a hill, though not as much anymore. Then I have to remind myself I'm a bad ass with stick shift.

I try to forget it. I’ve had the car scoped at it was free of scoring so like you said oil change and drive it 👍
I got the 987.2 2.9l with a manual gearbox. Doesn’t it have „hill assist“? Or was this an extra the first owner paid lits of money for?
@@iguana4751 nah, I'm pretty proficient with it now
@@ThatCaymanGuy Do you drive a 987 facelift model?
@@iguana4751 no it's a regular unmolested 2006 Cayman S, I did install grill guards for the front and sides
cant find any cayman under 20k in france atm
Really? Mind you since this video was made prices have gone a bit mad here. £20k is about right now
