@@TayNez63 That's only because Sozin's attack on the Air Temples looking for Aang and then eventually getting to the Southern Air Temple when he kills Gyatso and the other monks isn't shown in the original cartoon show. It's only in flashbacks in the s1 episode "The Storm" that we see what happened to Aang in between those events

The original crescendo is very iconic.
Part of that might be because the original narration ends on a more hopeful note where Katara says "But I believe Aang can save the world". I do think the original's better tho
What do yall mean? The crescendo with the original four notes is literally right there when the four elements are being called out, so is Greatest Change at the end, they literally did a reorchestration of the original themes, like it's almost a legit 1:1 lmaoooo

Everyhting about the first episode was TERRIBLE
Aang, Sokka, Kitara, Zuko, Iro, Sozin, even Gran Gran and the villagers were just awful
None of the characters seem ANYTHING like the characters that we all love from the animated series
And the bending is basic level martial arts, the moves are lame
The animated series used 4 iconic martial arts styles for each of the nations:
Pa Qua for Air
Shaolin for Fire
Hung Gar for Earth
Tai Chi for water
The fighting in THIS show was, just rudimentary at best
And the bending powers are WAY DIALED DOWN, and much weaker than the bending from the animated series

I didn't like how Katara and Sokka just dipped and didn't even bother saying goodbye to Gran gran when they went after Zuko.
In the animation, the farewell had depth. Gran gran told the kids that their destinies are now tied with the Avatar. For me it was bitter sweet. In the live action, they just used Gran gran for exposition.
to be fair in the og opening katara says "MY GRANDMOTHER TOLD ME STORIES" IMAGINE IF THEY WERE GOING TO CHANGE IUT THEY MIGHT REMEMBER WHO SHOULD SAY IT thats attention to detail am half way done with it and this is an amazing adaptation so far even with all the story merging its done so well that i have no complaints even the azula stuff is well done and for all those iroh fans im sure you will love into the dark for a certain musical score during a flashback

It honestly makes better sense to have Kyoshi narrate it. Katara is still young and naive. You want a powerful and legendary, yet elegant to narrate the intro. Similar to the Lord of the Rings when Galadriel narrated the prologue instead of Frodo.

I'm a huge kyoshi fan. No question. However HOW the hell is she getting more shine than Roku than the intro? Ruko is the most important previous Avatar for Aang since he directly communicated to him, warning him on what he has to do and was the last Avatar the world knew.

If you look closely you can see Szeto, the fire Avatar before Yangchen. He was more of a speaker than a warrior, but he could fight if he needed to.

Just finished all 8 episodes and I loved it!!!! Amazing visuals, casting, costume design, and yes it's not a scene for scene or word for word as the original, but as a die-hard fan since the beginning, it's off to an AMAZING start. I couldn't stop clapping, cheering, and crying, jumping, and laughing. The finale REALLY was AWESOME!!!! Can't wait for season two!!!! #flameo #avatarthelastairbender #avatarnetflix

Hopefully seasons 2 and 3 will improvise their character development, but only if they can hire the good writers in it.

Not exactly. Kiyoshi is used mainly to show show the mastery of the 4 elements. But they then go further to explain the reincarnation cycle by showing roku at the end.
So both are present but yeah they should have given roku some time to shine

The intro portrayed it as though Roku is the Avatar who vanished before revealing how Aang is tied to Roku, and then that Aang is actually the one who vanished. I guess it’s not a big deal cuz who cares really? Either way, he ran away but he’s back now. lol
I can kinda already see this being done to be more woman-centric tho. Which is a shame because they have Legend of Korra for that.

@@Axxidous not only Roku is the last Avatar before Aang, but he is a Fire Nation Avatar and a friend of Sozin’s. He literally lived through the events that preceded and have led to the War and the current situation. It doesn’t make sense to focus on Kiyoshi in this context

When I was a young lad, my father Avatar Aang told me the story of how he and his brave friends heriocally ended the Hundred Years' War. With Avatar Aang's help, Fire Lord Zuko granted the Fire Nation's colonies around the world their well-deserved independence and they've become the United Republic of Nations. A new fifth nation where benders and non-benders alike would live and thrive together in peace and harmony. When times get rough finding a capital, they gradually reclaimed Cranefish Town from the Spirits. And they made their new capital into the newly-named Republic City.
Avatar Aang had achieved so many things that even a few of his past lives could have sccomplished. But unfortunately, his time in this world would have come to an end. And as did the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Avatar had begun anew.
The vfx look amazing, and it's a nice change to see Kyoshi narrating the opening. While Katara's narration in the original animated show is iconic, this is definitely an honorable remake.
The bending looks good but the people don't they look unreal which they are you can kind of tell I don't know why they didn't just film the people making the action and then just add the bending that would have probably been a little bit easier on my eyes😂
The Kyoshi doing that bending was iffy, surely a little live action choreo would’ve been fine; but J do legit like the different voice-over for the opening. The sequence is more underwhelming? But I’m glad they took a risk anyways.

However, I don't want the remake to be the exact same thing from the og show, as the og show is still there. Don't get me wrong, it looks Beautiful!! But man, they really favor/like Kyoshi (Girl power I guess🙄😅) and she is great but I feel like they should have chosen Roku instead of Kyoshi to portray the cycle since he was the last known avatar before Aang, but I kinda understand the idea behind. I am still very excited for the show especially after the last trailer, but after seeing all the promo, I hope, like really really really hope, that they didn't change the role of Roku and his involvement on the series 🙏🙏

Her books were best sellers and they probably would do a spinoff with her more than Roku
I think it's less her gender and more how huge her impact was to the world before Aang's time

@@JohnPeacekeeper I don't really mind it since it's just the OP, and I perfectly agree that she was the most impactful and awesome among them. However, I hope they don't change or omit Roku role and involvement in the show in favor of Kyoshi just because she was more impactful in the world. She was important in her time and era but Roku is the most knowledgable about what it is happening (the war) in the present time since his best friend was literally the one who launches the conquest. And that's why he is the one that advise and accompany Aang throughout his journey.
Looking forward to see the fight with Ozai. I hope it's as awesome as the cartoon.

A lot of people are a little taken back by the changes. With respect to them, keep in mind that this is an adaptation, not a shot for shot remake. Things will be different. Things will be similar. But all in all, this is a different show than the original. We need to place it in its own category and judge it based on what it is, not what it's not.

The language they chose to change in this really messes up the flow and makes it sound cheesier. "When one avatar dies their spirit is reborn in an eternal cycle; since the death of the last avatar the new one has yet to emerge..", "eliminate the one person who may stand in his way", "a young boy, who may not be ready for the responsibility of becoming... the Avatar!" etc etc

This show is objectively pretty bad in most areas- even the special effects are pretty bad and the lighting is so glowy everything has an aura of blurriness-, if you think my complaints are invalid you are better off watching some generic anime with expository writing than avatar. No one in the OG show talks like how they do in the new shows, like robots. Zuko literally explains his situation to Uncle several times even though Uncle knows his situation- zuko wouldn't talk to him with the language they chose. That's why in the OG the story of zuko is told through uncle teaching an admiral on their ship. The original creators knew how to write, the new writers are cringe AF.

Anyone notice that uncle Iroh 'Dragon of the West' called Zhao a General at the beginning of Episode 2 and then called him commander at the end of Episode 2, which is lower than a General? Major mistake! LOL

Already there are problems with this. The line delivery is far more stern and stilted, the monologue is wordier and unnecessarily expository, the visuals are less striking, the movement of the benders just feels a bit too slow, and the music feels underwhelming.
If anybody thinks I'm nitpicking or being a downer, keep in mind that these people are adapting one of the greatest animated series OF ALL TIME, and we should expect that greatness to be reflected in this remake. Anything short of that is inadequate.

It looks neat, though I wish they had kept Roku rather than Kiyoshi as the Avatar in the intro. He was the Avatar before Aang, as well as the one Aang ends up talking to through the series. I was kinda looking forward to seeing him in the remade intro. Then again, I am biased as I always liked Roku more than Kiyoshi anyway.
Oh gosh, I hope this isn't a sign that they game Kiyoshi Roku's roll in the story. :(

Live action creators didn't want to copy paste the animated series as it is and few of the plot changes made by them are pretty good and welcoming as well. I did enjoy watching many of the changes (like Azula and Sozin's intro) as they offered different and fresh perspectives.
But it has its own demerits as well:
1) Characterisation is something that was extra ordinary in the OG series (Aang was goofy yet wise and brave but here he is shown to be always frightened and somewhat coward, Katara was passionate, strong willed but here she almost carried the same expression throughout and why on Earth did they tone down Sokka's sarcasm. He was such a lively guy.) Honestly actors playing main characters seriously needs to improve especially Aang and Katara. (PS: Maria Zhang’s acting stood out for me as she portrayed her interest in Sokka quite perfectly. Actors playing Zuko, Iroh and Ozai acted brilliantly as well.)
2) And why is the casting overloaded with Chinese/South east asian origin actors? The main theme of the original series was peace and harmony between extremely diverse nations. Probably this is why the original creators left this project sighting creative differences.
3) The OG creators had excluded visual references of the genocide against air nomads for a purpose as it was meant to be a kids show. But in netflix without such restrictions they could have explored it much deeper and it would have been fresh for us as well. I was expecting to see more of Aang's past and the wiping out of air nomads. The genocide portion could have been longer considering the effort they had put to show it visually. At least 1 episode dedicated for it would have given ample time for the buildup. However it lasted only for 25 odd minutes so it felt rushed to me.
4) There is no suspense at all in the writing. Everything was just direct and linear.
5) This has very less humour than the animated one.
Comparison with original is inevitable as the bar is set so high that it's very difficult to match those standards. So considering the above mentioned issues, the OG stands miles ahead than this live action at least for me and I wouldn't agree with anyone calling this as better than the original itself..
What they did to asula?she was slim and flexible in cartoon but in live action series she is round like hamster
On the casting I think they did a great job. Yea the show is about the different diverse nations but all of it is heavily based on east asian culture, they look racially ambiguous because its animation style is influenced by anime (which is asian lol).
If you look at the names of certain characters like "wan shi tong" and "general zhao" its clear, if you give it another watch pay attention to the architecture of the different nations too also the names of the cities "ba sing se", "oma-shu" its all asian inspired. The air nomads are based off of the monastic tibet, earth kindoms based off the thai, fire nation the japanese and the water tribes are based on the indigenous inuits of the arctic which are all asian. You can also tell by looking at the style of dress such as with characters like Roku, the kiyoshi warriors, Azula, all the air nomads too it is all a compilation of traditional eastern and southern asian influences.
Not to mention Brian and Michael literally based each bending style and the movements for them on each style of martial art Tai chi influenced water bending, Hung Gar influenced earth bendind etc. All the characters are asian but each kingdom and corresponding culture represents a different and diverse kind of asian culture. It was like that in the original, Brian and Michael wouldn't leave the show because of the asian casting when they built the show from the ground up on east asian culture and all the characters in the original are asian lol
never easy remaking an animated series into a live action
Especially one with so much depth and meaning like Avatar
1:18 hearing this and remembering when Tinzen gave that fire intro drop for LOK. Peak nostalgia.

So, they're *telling* us the story now? The vagueness of the original intro with Katara's voice was already perfect. Why change that?
