- Journalist en programmamaker Louis Theroux is gefascineerd door religie en heeft veel ervaring in het omgaan met excentriek en extreem gedrag. Hij zit niet bij de pakken neer als zijn verzoek het hoofdkwartier van de Scientology Church te bezoeken wordt geweigerd. Geïnspireerd door de filmtechnieken die de Church zelf gebruikt en geholpen door voormalige leden, huurt hij acteurs in om Tom Cruise en Scientology-leider David Miscavige na te spelen en zo inzicht te krijgen in de werkwijze van de organisatie.
In een bizarre twist ontdekt Theroux dat de Church tegelijk een film over hem maakt. De documentaire My Scientology Movie van Oscar winnend producent Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man, Man on Wire), vol komische momenten en onverwachte verwikkelingen, is daardoor nog vreemder dan fictie.

Louis Theroux is the perfect guy to document these fuckers. He matches and exceeds their infuriation tactics all while staying super calm. Beautiful to watch.

There's nothing that says a religion cant be obsessed with getting money anyway they can . You can say one religion is genuine because ............. unless you're talking in the legal tax definition of religion , which is just a legal definition for tax purposes .

They mistook his calm demeanour for weakness. The way he got that fucking asshole with the camera to back away at the end was one of the most beautiful and satisfying things I've ever seen.

When I first saw Louis unfortunately, I profiled him and didnt think he'd be any good but he is the only person on tv that'll stand there and tell people how it is. Couldn't of picked a better person to do these documentaries :)

This Doco will definitely have some impact but more so for people already out who are thinking of joining again. The biggest hit to Scientology this year will be Rob Miscaviage's book 'Ruthless". To really affect change in Scientology it has to come from within, Ron Senior was a beloved member of Scientology for decades and I'm hoping some of the shocking tales from his years on Int base will travel the grape vine and result in a few more SP's leaving the church.
