  • Here I test out Turbo Dork's Color Shift Paints. These acrylic paints are easy to airbrush and have zero smell. They come in many colors and they perform best over a black base. I also thin them with Golden Airbrush Medium which works as a great thinner.

    I believe the Prism Power and Twin Sons colors get their shift based on the underlying colors. If you have a gradient of white to black you will see the color change. This way you can control what color shows up on a specific part. It is helpful for miniature painting when a zenithal technique is used.

      That's definitely a good idea! But this video leaves me curious to how they would look on a grey colored primer. Maybe that would be the perfect in between to really make the colors pop with less effort 🤷

      @@pan2990 i believe turbo dork is even marketing these as "zenishift" paints, specifically performing best with contrast underpainting/highlighting.

    I've been using a zenithal shift for battletech minis. Through my .3 needle it's ok, the part that sprays over the white highlight takes 2 more passes with how thin it is. But on the up side I can really dial in how intense I want the top part of the shift color to be. The zenithal I do is spray the mini black primer, then spray titanium white from a steep angle. I brace my elbow on the desk in the same spot so I always get the same angle.
    I've used some of these on warhammer power weapons as well, mostly swords. Line the swords with your brightest silver afterwards and they look pretty nice. You can even glaze over them to add some shading in for more dimensionality.

    The next time you do a shifting paint test, paint bendable strips of sheet plastic. Then when it dries, you can bend the flat piece and find the optimum curvature that the shift can be seen. I think some of the pieces you have are either too flat or have edges that are too sharp for any shift to be seen.

    • @PinoyCarter
      @PinoyCarter 2 года назад +1

      You have a fair point and it would better show off what the paint is ultimately capable of. However, the less than ideal surfaces are of much more value to us than the perfect circumstance. Between gunpla, RL scale, & wargaming modelers, we get a better idea of how these types of paints will realistically work out. Even the spoons may be too generous for shift paints. I've tried several brands on different wargaming models and, with few exceptions, they're not really worth the cost & effort.

    I found in my own testing that the direction the color shifts on the bottle indicates what kind of color shift it is. I got Wavelength and Twin Sons, and while the first has a horizontal purple/blue shift and behaves like a color shift - I found that Twin Sons which has the more prominent vertical color separation on the bottle indicates that the color shifts depending on what the base coat is with no transition between the two.

    Thank you very much for reviewing the Golden Airbrush Medium! I have used it to airbrush acrylic craft paint on an old polyurethane vehicle model (after priming) and was quite happy with the results. It seemed to work better than windshield washer fluid. I also used it to thin Vallejo Game Color silver for a resin semi trailer kit. Even though I was rather clumsy with my airbrush on that one, it still came out decent enough for display. I look forward to seeing you use it in some other reviews.

I've used both KBS DiamondClear and Createx's own 4053 High Gloss on spoons and it looks phenomenal. Works as a decent pearl over white, but it really shines on black and midnight blue.
