I think that was the way he started. But I don’t think Kubo actually intended on keeping him alive as a consistent supportive character in the beginning. I’m thinking he was supposed to die against Uryuu but Kubo changed his mind (and considering his proclivity to do that, it wouldn’t be surprising) but Mayuri grew on him and he kept him around. It makes sense since every potential plot point or confrontation based on the SS arc was completely negated and done away with. That’s why I think Mayuri was then shaped into a goofy genius scientist with a cruel streak. I noticed he doesn’t beat the crap out of Nemu after the SS arc, at least I’ve never seen it. Nor does he or Uryuu clever have any kind of confrontation with each other or even an exchange of words about ANYTHING to do with the content from the SS arc. Since it can’t be retconned, I guess Kubo chose to ignore it. His experimentations on the Quincy are only ever mentioned again once in CFYOW, and it’s only that Mayuri had a big change of heart in regards to experimentation on people. Eh.
At first you look at Mayuri and think "ugh what a b@stard" then battle comes and you meet Sal who is the twisted Espada version of Dr. Frankenstein and when facing someone like that you find yourself glad it is Mayuri that showed up to show this guy what the word twisted really ment. Then you see how messed up and vile the Quincy are and one cannot wait for Mayuri to show up and teach these Quincy where they stand in the bigger horror picture they are now find themselves in. So it is indeed a strange feeling to have disgust in such a character and then to feel glad he is on your side when the chips fall.
I know that Kubo said he wasn’t imprisoned for trying to take over the soul society. He probably was too dangerous and scared the higher ups with his vast growing knowledge and experimentations. Think about how in TYBW he defeated multiple enemies who in terms of raw power were stronger than him but he just outsmarted every single one of them. That’s probably why they didn’t want him moving around freely.

hmm no mention of that answer kubo put up in klub outside of how mayuri used to be part of a rogue scientist group led by senjumaru before the research development squad was made.
I wonder if Mayuri's imprisonment has anything to do with his research into the Soul King. Maybe during (or after) working under Senjimaru he went too far with his experiments by trying to break into the Soul Palace to study Reio & Central 46 and/or Zero Squad had him confined. If so, Senjimaru may have vouched for Mayuri to not be executed, but instead imprisoned in Maggot's Nest.
I think Mayuri’s devotion to SS is so bizarrely important to him that’s what led him to being locked up in the Hornet’s Nest. He’s known for experimenting on other shinigami without clearance. My best guess is he did something unethical but it was beneficial to SS their only response out of fear of his capabilities was to arrest him. Urahara saw his potential and made a deal with him.
Why isn't his connection to Senjumaru mentioned at all in this video? She's on the thumbnail. There was that Klub Outside answer about him being in a research group she ran before she was promoted to the zero division.

Him being on the “good guys” side makes him a good character if he was a bad guy it would be generic asf. But it’s always fascinating asf to think if mayuri went rogue and him having something like the hogyoku would be terrifying.
Mayuri is Joker having the preparation of Batman. Secret MVP captain of the final arc. Dude was everywhere and contributed bigtime (fighting and healing captains) in almost every major battle. He's not flashy but he gets the job done. In that sense, he's actually the closest in methods to the original Gotei 13 and Yamamoto.
my personal belief as to why he was allowed the head Capitan of the 12th division is partially due to how the original gote where as old man Yama uses Mayuri as a sort of reminder and example as to why they threw away that life due to the pain and insanity that they caused so its kind of like a tale of what not to do and why you shouldn't and why there shouldn't be more people life Mayuri
I suspect that Mayuri was imprisoned because he would do anything in the name of advancing his scientific knowledge, and that he had to be chained to keep him from experimenting on his fellow prisoners or provoking them into attacking him. He finds Urahara irritating because he always somehow seems to be a step or two ahead, as well as manipulative. Note that Mayuri would've turned down Kisuke's offer if not for the promise that he would be Director of Research if Urahara died (or was indisposed). Freedom to conduct research as he saw fit (one day), with the full resources of the Soul Society, was the offer Urahara knew he couldn't resist. Captains, it seems, have considerable latitude in running their divisions, and as a practical matter only Urahara and Aizen would have the chops to even understand what he was doing. The one other consideration is that Mayuri was, on the whole, pretty loyal to the Soul Society. Just like Aizen was less interested in destroying the Soul Society than changing how things were run, Mayuri is smart enough to understand that the status quo supports his ongoing research. As long as that support remains forthcoming, he has no reason to rock the boat. Indeed, he will even take it on himself to make sure things run smoothly, like when he purged all those souls in Rukongi to maintain balance without securing permission first. And when Yamamoto called him on it, he basically just said it was necessary. And old man Yama accepted it, because while the act was monstrous, he wasn't wrong. And as long as Mayuri stays within that boundary, the Soul Society will overlook his excesses, because he's the "hero" they need, if not the one they want.
Him being a prodigy at the academy does not make sense as a primary reason for landing him in the Maggots nest. Kaien Shiba was in the academy for 2 years and Gin as well as Tōshirō were in for 1. They were likely way more gifted in that way than Mayuri.
Knowing that he has studied the Quincies so well is why I always felt he threw his fight with Uryu, when has Mayuri just charged ahead in a fight like a Zaraki? He could easily have killed him with his poison, just make one laced with Hollow Reiatsu and he dies even faster Maybe he wanted to experience taking an arrow

Loved the vid! Bit of a darker take from me but theoretically Mayuri could've just gone and experimented some cocktail of his on his teachers at the academy. This either could've happened or was about to happen when they locked him up as he rarely tries to hide anything he's doing.

Okay how about this, as a student mayuri found out that some noble family has a very very rare item that he wanted to experiment on. That item was a piece of the soul King that was extracted from existing fullbrings whom were getting delivered to tsunayashiro. And he stole a body.
Just a curious question, if Urahara said that Shinigami are not allowed to resign from their posts, then how did Byakuya took over his grandfather’s (Ginrei) position as 6th Division Captain?
He’s basically Rick Sanchez: science and deduction don’t need to fear anyone. The moment you think you’ve outsmarted Mayuri is the moment you lose. He’s got all the information (except Uruhara) and he won’t share unless he needs to. Just make him burp every three words.
I have to agree the soul society is very corrupt not all of them but the ppl in charge it really makes you want to route for Yhwach or anyone who wants to take it down but it is the fact Ichigo helps them after he knows what they did I don't know if he knew what they were going to do to him when he got to the soul palace but then changed their mind but it really makes me dislike them also in a way Mayuri looks a lot better compared to the soul society not completely but still (IMO)
I feel like Mayuri is the most competent captain and deserves more power and responsibilities than he already has. I could easily see him running Soul Society well after Old Man Yama
Being the head captain would be the last thing Mayuri would ever want. Mayuri's the consummate scientist. If he became the head captain, he'd have to spend a lot of time administering the Soul Society -- planning, meetings, leading combat or diplomatic missions, developing shinigami, reporting to the council -- time he could better spend on research, testing, and experimentation. It'd be sheer psychological torture for Mayuri to have to waste his time on administrative duties. Mayuri is exactly where he wants to be - Captain of R&D. The Soul Society provides him with free labs, free staff, free materials, and allows him frequent exposure to the most interesting phenomena in all of reality. It's a dream job for him, one that he'll work hard to protect, incidentally defending the Soul Society in the process. Which is probably why Urahara let him loose and recruited him.
I thought Mayuri genetically changed his body, which is why he looks so crazy. It seems less likely that he paints his entire body every day. I would imagine he has like 10-100 different versions of his own body. Like Iron Man suits, made for specific purposes. But I think any and all of your theories are valid. He's smart and dangerous across the board!
I always took it as a battle strategy. Because he’s off putting and maybe to cause fear in opponents. It also could serve to make him less approachable so people leave him alone while he’s working 🤔
7:38 lets be real if Uahara wasn’t already part of the reapers he would be in the maggots nest not it’s warden, Kenpachi is another one that would probably be in there (if they could take him down) you could probably say the same thing for every member of the founders, it makes you wonder what deal was struck between them and central 46?
He almost certainly ran afoul of someone powerful while his skills and expirements were deemed potentially dangerous to the status quo due to the boundaries they push. Maybe he fatally expiremented on some noble's relative and was only spared execution due to his work still being seen as invaluable. Whatever the case, he certainly contributed to Soul Society's survival in the war even if he's someone who'd normally be hanged in our world for obvious reasons.
He was probably related to the previous scientist who was making bounts. there is no set time when Mayuri was but she was alive a while before and that soul experiment then brought Mayuri into the fold and was set up as the pastee in this sense he was sentenced while she ran away and hid. the funny thing is that his been a scientist thus his standing in a high security prison doesn't make sense when the warden allowed him free exchange.
He is antisocial, and awkward, but he's not malevolent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't admit that he killed those Quincies. It was assumed they were killed by shinigamis and recently we learnt it could be Auswahlen. Maruyi is a genius so he doesn't need living specimens to learn their techniques.
Can you make a video on, How to kill ichigo????? How difficult to kill him since we know that zangetsu will always save him. Interesting topic isn't it?
I feel like the senjumaru thing wasn't thought out enough by kubo And the additional bit about that in klub outside was him trying to make it fit (it still kinda doesn't) But hey, all mangakas have off days. No biggie
So if this makes sense, the council of the soul society was terrified of Mayuri because he was super exceedingly smart and able to do haikaido haido sorry, at such a fast pace? This deemed him a terror level threat. Okay, Zaraki, another shinigami deemed a terror threat because he was so strong and if he would've completed learning from Yamamoto he would probably turn against the sereitei by their fears of others that have great potential? That's both brains and brawns that were a major help to the soul society.😂 They feared a lot of stuff then and plus they're akin to each other in the friend department (one experiments and hates stupidity as well as simple made biological experiments from other scientists.) (The other utilizing strength and power in fighting within a desire of bloodlust and love fighting, yet can be great in war tactics) they feared gifted individuals! Thank you Urahara and Yamamoto and Ukitake for believing in them
Well I mean it won't be much of a surprise considering Uryu's schrift, and honestly I think him defeating Senjumaru would be redemption for him as he still hasn't done anything significant in this arc
@@darkknight6219 yeah I wanna listen to uryu saying his lines abt his pride of quincy as shown to us in cour 2 trailer which came directly after cour 1 ending. I think uryu will say this line when he will be defeating senjumaru.
Eh... sure... it could also be for sentimental reasons seeing as Naruto worked himself to the bone and literally lost an arm in order to save Sasuke from himself. Tsunade might have had a hand in Orochimaru's pardon as well, since he most likely knows Jiraiya-- his best friend-- is dead. They even pardoned Kabuto and allowed him to raise children in the Leaf's orphanage.
I think we can see some of kubo flaws as a writter with mayuri, just because he is one of his favorite charachters, he never gets punished by any of his actions, also uryu never hold grudge againts him during the whole series even after knowing of what he did to his grandpa, wich is wierd to me, because he could have been an important trigger for ishida to switch sides during TYBW that and the whole corruption in shinigami society, well at least it was a good reason of his facade as a stern ritter, but nope his reasosn were pettty and mundane, like oh shinigami must be erased just because Im a quincy, but it was pretty obvious that he was a double agent from the beginning, I think kubo didn't hanlde the story well in this instance, or maybe he didn't had the time to do so.

Do you have a video on maggots nest
Mayuri is definitely up there for MVP of the war
I thought Mayuri genetically changed his body, which is why he looks so crazy. It seems less likely that he paints his entire body every day. I would imagine he has like 10-100 different versions of his own body. Like Iron Man suits, made for specific purposes. But I think any and all of your theories are valid. He's smart and dangerous across the board!
I always took it as a battle strategy. Because he’s off putting and maybe to cause fear in opponents. It also could serve to make him less approachable so people leave him alone while he’s working 🤔
the longer finger nail is so Mayuri can do lines of Coke to stay awake and complete his research
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Mayuri strikes me as a cross of Shirō isshi mixed with Josef mengala but points out that alot of good things can come out of horrible experiments
I think Mayuri being restrained protects the other inmates. Since Mayuri is op with Kido and the other inmates could attack without provocation.
I want to know how Mayuri came to be personally acquainted with Senjumaru before she joined the Royal Guard.
Y'all call him Mayuri, I call him Kanye East.
Aizen knowing Mayuri's friendshsip with Uahara most likely was responsible for his imprisonment
Kurotsuchi Taicho, is my favorite for sure!!!
He is my favorite captain for sure!
He sounds so sinister since its the same voice actor for Frieza
Ive always wondered if you cant resign from gotei 13 how did Byuakia's grandfather leave?
"why does he look like that" it's called fashion, sweaty, look it up
He is antisocial, and awkward, but he's not malevolent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't admit that he killed those Quincies. It was assumed they were killed by shinigamis and recently we learnt it could be Auswahlen. Maruyi is a genius so he doesn't need living specimens to learn their techniques.
Been watching Bleach while Reading the Fabius Bile books
And I gotta say they would probably be very good friends
The chain is not to immobilize him physically. How would anyone feel if they're chained like an animal?
How much stronger would Itchigo be if he was properly trained by the soul society?
Can you make a video on,
How to kill ichigo?????
How difficult to kill him since we know that zangetsu will always save him.
Interesting topic isn't it?
I feel like the character picked up popularity and he was written to be shown in a better light
Mayuri is my favorite character.
It always pisses me off that they ignore him being super mengele. Jesus he committed genocide on the Quincy…
Man rolled with Senjumaru back in the day. Maybe he was jailed for that.
See what had happened was he knows to much about the soul king
He is just like orochimaru in naruto
Basically Orichimaru
I feel like the senjumaru thing wasn't thought out enough by kubo
And the additional bit about that in klub outside was him trying to make it fit (it still kinda doesn't)
But hey, all mangakas have off days.
Thank you Urahara and Yamamoto and Ukitake for believing in them
credits for artist of Senjumaru in the thumbnail please?
They should put him back........
😂😂😂😂😂
Mayuri will loose his mind if uryu alone defeat senjumaru considering she is his master.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a app where I can watch old bleach episodes for free I used to own season 1 through 5 but they were stolen
Who imprisoned him Yoruichi Shihouin of the second squad ?
Same reason why naruto still lets orochi do what he does. Someone has to do it
Eh... sure... it could also be for sentimental reasons seeing as Naruto worked himself to the bone and literally lost an arm in order to save Sasuke from himself. Tsunade might have had a hand in Orochimaru's pardon as well, since he most likely knows Jiraiya-- his best friend-- is dead. They even pardoned Kabuto and allowed him to raise children in the Leaf's orphanage.
He might need to sent back there.
He pretty much the Orochimaru of Bleach
I think we can see some of kubo flaws as a writter with mayuri, just because he is one of his favorite charachters, he never gets punished by any of his actions, also uryu never hold grudge againts him during the whole series even after knowing of what he did to his grandpa, wich is wierd to me, because he could have been an important trigger for ishida to switch sides during TYBW that and the whole corruption in shinigami society, well at least it was a good reason of his facade as a stern ritter, but nope his reasosn were pettty and mundane, like oh shinigami must be erased just because Im a quincy, but it was pretty obvious that he was a double agent from the beginning, I think kubo didn't hanlde the story well in this instance, or maybe he didn't had the time to do so.
what if mayuri went to skl with urahara
That great and typical secretary I like very much and rely on
I always thought it was a coke nail not a talon 😂
mans a perfect fit or the original gotei 13
Mayuri 'The God Slayer'
Thks guy waseant to be a villain. He is so well written
Mvp of tybw pt2 .. mayuri get slept on
After countless failures...while named number 7.
Should of gave that to the old man the head captain definitely needed 2 arms against ywach
I always thought mayuri was a zetsu from Naruto like being and not human so it just being face paint shocked me
Like it or not every country in the world has a Mayuri high enough government positions
