- Aerial Applicators (AKA Crop Dusters) are vital to Michigan's agriculture. They help fight invasive species in forests and keep crops free of pests. See what it's like to fly in the cockpit of an aerial applicator in action!

I do not remember how many times I have flown over a small strip and then do a 180 to return and cant find the damn strip. THESE guys find the spot everytime...amazing job...amazing flying!
I have the very most respect for crop duster pilots. Tail wheel skill, max load skill, flying at near stall, steep turns, ground obstacles, advanced gps avionics and no auto pilot to do the flying for them. I have 13,000+ hours as pilot in command, flown Cubs to Falcon900s, two seat Hiller helos to Blackhawks. Believe me when I say, crop dusters earn their keep!
don't forget about chemicals and alcohol abuse
I was expecting to see some actual crop dusting, not turning in a circle... But I still enjoyed it. This would be a great flying job.
Yeah that's what I noticed. Not much crop dusting.
have another doob hit
I was a crop duster for a few years had a piper Pawnee loved 😍 it
That is truly old school!
Loved The Pawnee 2 Sessons 1000+ Hrs
The pawnee is a sweet little plane, fun to fly.
I’ve ferried an AT-802 a few times across country and Ive had the chance to fly it in simulated water drops. It really hauls the freight. It’s big and fast but handles like a truck. It is not an airplane that you can mishandle, it requires constant attention when turning with a load. It also seems to require flaps to turn with any kind of load too. One of the most awkward flying aircraft I’ve ever flown, but it’s very productive for the ag pilot and SEAT pilot. Fun to fly but I’m not sure I’d enjoy sitting in one all day.
Beautiful aircraft and great flying! If I were younger I'd love a job like this.
what I thought to. well i was younger 1993, but my first time up I noticed the gap between me and the ground kept getting bigger and bigger at that point I fully had meltdown , freaked ! awful it was , had no clue my balls where still on the runway ! and in 93 I discovered my biggest fear was heights and redheads , love them but do fear !
The yellow helmet is just too awesome
I've been flying now off and on for 40 years and I think this type of job would be a blast!
The view is great!
Very Nice Vid. Good plane too
Looks like great fun! Reminds me of NOE in my Huey in NAM. Fun, but very dangerous 😎A lot of things can bite you!
Muy digno trabajo saludes a todos y todas los piloto agrícola bendiciones Dios Jesús les cuide siempre
I do a fair amount of crop dusting myself…..of course it’s not in a plane….usually just walking through a room….
As a career floatplane pilot I really identify with this kind of flying, this is real flying! Jets are for kids!
So cool.
Nice looking machine
Very interesting 🤔
Wow ❤
I’m pretty knowledgeable with all types of aircraft things and I’m amazed at how fast this plane can go with such a slow prop speed. It’s barely moving! Incredible! I’m going to get one of these setups for my plane.
Tuning about 2k rpm. Typical, not slow really.
Need a camera on the ground. Very cool. Air tractor?
Probably a stupid question but, how do you tell which field? Do they give coordinates and you put it your plane? Like how's it work out
Just spraying the airport ground? Training maybe, or testing?
Guy flew around in circles.
Must be a great job
Is that Randy Quaid?
Im not hearing radio calls(?)
I am confused he made one pass and than flew around in circles and than made one pass and landed..
It was for show. You could tell the hopper was empty just based on how fast he lifted off the runway.
I know this aircraft is designed for low level stuff, but any idea what kind of altitude it could achieve?
its a turboprop, so its not lacking in power, id say its service ceiling would be determined by the pilot needing oxygen as it has no pressurized cabin, so below 15000ft id say.
What was this? Maybe a test flight??
Watching this video I have that Coldplay song going through my head, "Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you, And everything you do" I can't remember what it's called..........
Look out for the 710 powerful Thrust
If you are expecting to see actual crop dusting, you won't. It appears to be a practice or training event.
He needs Go-Pro's on the wings ,in the front and on both sides of the windows .
what was he trying to do im confused
Turboprop ?
Crop dusting…. 2 passes over the same spot and 10 steep turns trying to locate the airport 🤷🏼♂️
🤣🤣🤣
What you are seeing here is actually a calibration of the aircraft spray pattern. The aircraft is loaded with water and fluorescent dye. On the two passes if you look very close you will see multiple small markers in a line and then a string that collects data on the aircrafts droplet size and deposition density. Two passes are made and they are averaged to collect data on the aircraft’s nozzle setup. The time between passes is to reset the sensor equipment. The equipment is set up on an orientation to the wind to minimize side movement for testing and is not in line with the runway. Perhaps the video title should be “aircraft spray equipment calibration runs”.
@@KSOYflight I’ve learned something new, thanks.
I thought you were kidding, but nope! Disappointing for sure.
@@KSOYflight yeah I was a little lost. Thanks for the information. Makes sense.
A pilot who knows his aircraft👨✈️
Would love to be able to do this job
What's holding you back?
Crop dusting is about going back and forth across a field.
Don’t understand the skid lid.
A crash usually ended in flames or covering with poison spray or dust.
Most dusters were lucky to live so long in the 1950s and 1960s.
You must be a exceptional pilot and very careful .
Then high line wires would jump out and grab you.
It's a swath test! Say what it is!
The single engine turbo prop is more reliable than the Big Pratt and Whitney or 450 Jacobs piston engine
And quieter, and easier to start, and more fun to fly, and (in most cases) more powerful, and nicer looking on the aircraft.... Once you go turbine, it's impossible to go back.
Being a AG pilot I’m not sure I get what you were trying to accomplish ????
Not sure what this was all about. Flying in circles?
That was lackluster
I have spent a lot of time in an 802 and that certainly didn't look like crop dusting to me. Just a lot of wasted fuel, and time.
wow that's the best you can do i'd look for another career
didn't do much for me. I've been a pilot for 50 years.
They forgot to tell you that crop dusting will kill you. Not the flying part , the exposure to the chemicals
Horse shit. My dad sprayed for just shy of 40 years. Not one..... not one ailment due to exposure.
@@Jenufir he was lucky.
@@user-cd9gk7lj9p Not lucky, just common sense. Most ag pilots are smart, and paid attention to the chemical training they had to go through to use RUPs. Most ag pilots are 60 and older. They don't achieve 30, 40, or 50 year careers by being irresponsible.
@@Jenufir true,
I flew these aircraft for 15 years. Never once met anyone that died or knew someone that died from chronic exposure. Pilots and loaders will face exponentially higher exposure rates over a career over the general public, with zero elevated problems. You're spouting a myth.
be nice if we had a clue what he's doing?????????/
THIS IS NOT DUSTING
Click bait... not crop dusting at all.
Can I have these 10 minutes of my life back? This vid was under-whelming & like watching paint dry.
I just hold grudges to long , I could go strait to jail with a load of manure . its not funny I truly need help.
This guy needs to stay with forestry flying. He not an ag pilot
Stop using pesticides damn it
Have your water tested
Then half the planet would starve. You sound like an elitist that hates the impoverished.
Very boring video. Anyone can fly circles. Iv never flown a real plane but even I could take off and fly circles. Landing might be a little fun but no doubt I could do it.
WELL THAT WAS BORING BORING BORING
