I have the very most respect for crop duster pilots. Tail wheel skill, max load skill, flying at near stall, steep turns, ground obstacles, advanced gps avionics and no auto pilot to do the flying for them. I have 13,000+ hours as pilot in command, flown Cubs to Falcon900s, two seat Hiller helos to Blackhawks. Believe me when I say, crop dusters earn their keep!

I’ve ferried an AT-802 a few times across country and Ive had the chance to fly it in simulated water drops. It really hauls the freight. It’s big and fast but handles like a truck. It is not an airplane that you can mishandle, it requires constant attention when turning with a load. It also seems to require flaps to turn with any kind of load too. One of the most awkward flying aircraft I’ve ever flown, but it’s very productive for the ag pilot and SEAT pilot. Fun to fly but I’m not sure I’d enjoy sitting in one all day.

its a turboprop, so its not lacking in power, id say its service ceiling would be determined by the pilot needing oxygen as it has no pressurized cabin, so below 15000ft id say.

What you are seeing here is actually a calibration of the aircraft spray pattern. The aircraft is loaded with water and fluorescent dye. On the two passes if you look very close you will see multiple small markers in a line and then a string that collects data on the aircrafts droplet size and deposition density. Two passes are made and they are averaged to collect data on the aircraft’s nozzle setup. The time between passes is to reset the sensor equipment. The equipment is set up on an orientation to the wind to minimize side movement for testing and is not in line with the runway. Perhaps the video title should be “aircraft spray equipment calibration runs”.

Crop dusting is about going back and forth across a field.
    Don’t understand the skid lid.
A crash usually ended in flames or covering with poison spray or dust.
Most dusters were lucky to live so long in the 1950s and 1960s.
You must be a exceptional pilot and very careful .
Then high line wires would jump out and grab you.
