I was front row the last time I saw Iron Maiden and right in front of Dave. I was singing to all the songs. When Dave noticed I forgot some of the lyrics, he smiled at me and mouthed some of the words to me so I could remember. What a nice guy!
Dave was very poor as a child, his dad was disabled. The first thing he did when I started to make money in Maiden was to buy his parents a house. His mom lives there to this day. Dave is so likeable.
TheCrimsonIdol987 Same here. He was my model, watching him and keeping with his tempo taught me how to play relaxed but still have strength in the tone. I lightened up the fingers a lot because of Dave Murray and that made so many things easier. Before that I strained a lot for no reason. Murray makes it look easy for sure.
Saw them for the first time last night in Hartford and they were fantastic! I think Dave is one of the most underrated rock guitarists. His solos looked effortless
I think he is underrated because he is humble and isn't "flashy." I don't think he wants or needs to be known as "the best." He's just his amazing, talented self and the fans love it! I agree that his solos look effortless. He has definitely mastered his sound. Rock on, Dave - you rocking ray of sunshine! ♡
That it's one rich, normal down to earth human being. He seems like the kind of guy you could sit down at a bar and have a few points with, and enjoy tales of old.
Robearwgl Indeed! He's such a nice guy. I made a one-on-one interview with him as a young reporter in Budapest, Hungary and he was extremely easy going, very helpful and gave me very useable and intelligent soundbites. Had no rockstar attitude whatsoever, as opposed to Janick and Bruce. Janick seemed pretty arrogant then and there, and Bruce got so mad at a reporter girl that later during the concert he would rant about that particular interview for 10 minutes. Adrian was a bit bored but he did appreciate if you had made your research before and gave me honest answers. I didn't talk to Nicko.
Really? I dunno... It seems they always seem to support local bands whenever they tour, bring em along for exposure and stuff like that. I think it's pretty cool :S
he's like a happy drunk villager in a Asterix town or something... the permanent contagious smile, what a guitar player... what a human being, Up the Irons!!!
Dave Murray still looks like he did when the number of the beast came out. 👌 Thank you Dave and Iron Maiden for all the years of great music. God only knows how much I've loved these guys over the years. Keep on Rocking Iron Maiden!
@Imperium Europa Yes. I know a lot about his background. Dave chooses to be the way that he is. A lot of rock stars have rags to riches stories, but Dave is just different. As soon as he made enough money from Maiden, he bought his parents a house. He treats people with respect and has said that he knows he is lucky. With all of that, he admits to having to pay his dues for several years before he considered himself successful. Touring so much and for so long comes with a price. Dave loves playing live and he loves the fans. He decided at 15 that he was going to devote everything to playing guitar. He's living his dream, but still chooses to be gracious and humble. He's a very happy guy who also happens to be very wise. Bruce has said that the band goes to him for "wise counsel." He never has anything negative to say about anyone in interviews or documentaries. We all love him and know him as the heart and soul of Maiden. Rock on, Smilin' Dave! Irons up!
These guys have always been about the music now, the party later. In order to do the type of shows these guys do, they almost have to be pure athletes. Which is awesome.
Their party is the music, being out there on stage always putting on a great show and having the up most fun for each and every member us fans are the bands party
my favourite musician in Maiden even the I'm a drummer! It's his style, personality & commitment. Just a superlative human being. Playing wise I've found probably a dozen youtube vids of guitarists doing an Adrian solo & coming really really close. When they do a Dave solo it's never got that powerful but smooth liquidity you get from the master!
very true.i've been a huge maiden fan forever and this guy is always smiling.such a quality person.such a phenomenal guitar player.maiden are allstars of music.unreal band allround!
Dave seems to be a humble guy. He's always smiling while he's rockin out during the performances, such an inspiration for me. A Great musician. Congrats for the interview!
One of the most gracious, cool and talented guys ever to wander this big earth. What a diamond and what a musician. One of the main reasons I got into Maiden over 20 years ago was just watching this guy, let alone listen to him, on Live After Death god I wore out 3 copies of that VHS tape trying to see what his fingers were doing. I hope you do loads more stuff with Maiden and would love to hear a solo album maybe one day eh?!!! Perhaps something different I know you like your blues? DMC
Dave Murray is one of, if not the biggest influence in my own guitar playing. I remember being 10 and I first heard his solo on Aces High and it completely changed my lead guitar playing from that moment. Up the Irons!!!!
Well said mate. Dave murray is a LEGEND. a really nice happy down to earth guy. no bravado, no gimmicks or image trends. he is an exceptional guitarist who plays solo's to what fits well with the kinda of music maiden write, and it is flawless. i am sure he could write solos that could put almost any other guitarist to shame. and i am a massive fan of kirk hammett, joe satriani, steve vai and more. does not care about showing off. and what he does in maiden is god like skill anyway.
I'd say it's the only way around, Dave is the most technical guitar player while Adrian is more into soulful solos. Actually if you listen to Adrian solos in slow mo, they sound bluesy and beautiful.
Yeah Dave Murray is a phenomenal guitar player and Steve Harris said when Dave auditioned for maiden back when they were really young, Steve said he was blown away at how good he was after only playing 4-5 years, Dave Murray is so fluid when playing and so versatile, he can palm mute rhythms while Adrian rips leads then Adrian palm mutes rhythms and Dave rips leads, Dave and Adrian are my favorite guitarist and play so well together, their styles compliment one another. I finally got to see them in the Tacoma dome several years ago on the book of souls world tour and it was absolutely powerful and amazing. Couldn't believe I finally got to see them live. Phenomenal performance by every band member.
the incredible part of iron Maiden is that they incorporate huge stories into the music which take each one of us on a sonic journey, some more than others and we all have our favorites but the level of creativity bleeding from these guys is plainly unmatched even through today's rising musicians. I love these guys.
Just saw Iron Maiden lastnight in Nashville, TN and I must they performed with as much crazy energy and tightness as they did in the 80s. Running and jumping off of risers and in constant motion etc.. Bruce did not miss a note, highs or lows. Incredible must see live show!!
Had a chance to meet him back in 1995. We talked for about a good half an hour... I can tell you that he is the most down to earth guy I've ever met. He is also very humble and he was generous enough to sign my guitar, which is now framed and hanging in my office.
You guys are amazing I just learnt 2 minutes to midnite on guitar it is a hard song to do to write such a song and to put such deep lyrics is an art that few bands can do and Maiden is the Master of it :-)
I absolutely adore Davey, he is a great guitar player and he is one of my biggest influences as a guitar player along with H and Jan, he is an amazing guy, I love he is always smiling, I think he has never been upset in his life, and I also love his humbleness, his playing style is so unique, he is a legato God, and even though he writes a song very rarely, every song he has contributed is fantastic, songs such as Still Life, Deja-Vu, The Prophecy, Judas Be My Guide, The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, The Thin Line Between Love and Hate and some other great songs. Davey rules, he is great and I absolutely admire him, he is a God!! UP THE IRONS!!
Totally underrated for so long. Never tried to gain attention over the others, out of the 11 times I watched them I saw one guitar solo by Murray and I think it was to burn some time while something else was being repaired
I know nothing about music . I know nothing of how to read music . musical composition or theory . I only know when something I hear is excellent and with Dave Murray I hear excellence . Dave always seems to enjoy what he is doing and makes it as if it is so effortless .

Yea man they do, they all seem like a great group of guys. I hope i get the chance to meet them one day, that would be fuckin awesome! I seen em live a couple times, this past tour was easily the best concert i ever seen though. It was amazing!

Man Dave Murray is true to himself and humble. No Rockstar bullshit or "praise me" ego. Him and Adrian are gods.
Yeah, same with KK Downing.
Same with Rob Halford. My friend saw him in a Starbucks in California and they had a good conversation.
