    Oh my goodness did this bring up my own experiences/feelings/trauma in the CTM (the Brazilian MTC). I too went on a mission with an diagnosed mental illness. Which spiraled out of control and only ended when my family demanded that I be brought home. My experiences in Brazil as a missionary led to me own leaving of the church.

      @mvaug69 3 года назад +3

      I can't comment about the Brazilian mission, but I can comment about the control of these organised religions that set themselves up as God's emissaries while covering up their own inexperience and errors, which is my personal experience. A mother has the right to make decisions for her own children, particularly in circumstances like this. You question these leaders and they can be very nasty. It's never their fault. You've got the problem, and you probably have after all that frustration.

      Another point here. If a woman is ruined because she has sex before marriage, what happens to rape victims? Christ loves, forgives and heals. He doesn't make it worse.

    Missions are abusive. Some worse than others. Mine was on the worse side. It gave me an idea what it was like to be a POW. The mission was an internment. When I got home I felt spiritually raped. I had severe PTSD. I didn't really know it at the time but I knew something didn't feel right. And as the church works, I was the one who felt guilty for how I felt about the mission..... because no one speaks bad about the mission experience, which is the most highly kept and guarded secret in the church......that missions are usually pretty awful. As I learned about dealing with trauma, I learned that everything you feel about a circumstance/situation are legitimate feelings. The church will teach that those bad feelings come from Satan. It's all so destructively bad.

      I met numerous missionaries during my decades of investigating. I’ve heard some crazy stories. Some told me that Jesus Christ resides in the SLC temple and the prophet & apostles commune with him. Some missionaries start out gung-ho, then I visit them at the end of their sentence and they have a washout gloss over their face as if they have PTSD. I’d make eye contact with them and talk slowly, but there’s a blank stare. When I asked where did that other missionary go, and say oh he got moved or went home sick. One missionary at the near end of her term said it’s ok to drink tea. Would you say good 40 to 50% must end up going inactive or resigning after the missionary service?

      I grew up taking speech therapy until I was in 12th grade for a significant stutter. Still had major parts in every major production from 7th to 12th grade; it took hard work and persistence. The GOP attacks on POTUS for verbal faux pas makes my blood boil. He stutters too! I feel you pain because I have been there. People worthy of your love, love you regardless of your speech pattern. I think I might have bumped into her Son before. Did he ever try to get a temp job in UT County in the last 2 years? The description of his personality sounds vaguely familiar, remember the individual I was working with also said he served in a mission in Brazil. Remember one day he came to work with his mind completely cracked by bumping into a church authority accusing him of odd thought crimes and accusations.. The pour soul was on a 10-20 sec recurrent loop of all the dramatic events/ history he learned cycling and finding new paths. Tried to stabilize his anxiety, getting him to talk out his line of thought on one concurrent path, but he seemed to have a lot of processing thoughts colliding all at once.

    With all my respect for your journey and what happened to your son, but I would like to make two corrections. Brazilians usually eat large meals during lunch. The Missionaries eat lunch with members, not dinner.
    I am Brazilian and I have never heard of this belief that if you do not eat everything on your plate, it is considered disrespectful to the mother, in reality we believe that if you eat everything you put on your plate was because you liked the food. And that makes us happy. And if you repeat it and eat more, it is a sign that you loved it. I think your son felt pressured to eat too much to make people "happy".
