    • @xavierraynor177
      @xavierraynor177 2 года назад +1

      It’s impossible for the current Mr. Backlot to have been the child who befriended Rotom unless Mr. Backlot and Charon are really the same person. Personally I agree that the owner of Old Chateau was probably Mr. Backlot’s father or grandfather and that Charon may even be a relative of the Backlot Family and maybe even perhaps the current Mr. Backlot’s father. Also keep in mind that we are dealing with a haunted mansion and thus ghosts and the dead and so Charon aka Pluto (his name in Japanese) being tied to Rotom and even the Old Chateau as well as the deaths of the girl and Butler. Perhaps Charon was tied to some project involving resurrection and Old Château was his base of operations. This idea isn’t unheard of in Pokémon either. Honestly Charon being a being a Backlot himself would have possibly given him money to fund a project of that nature makes sense and I’d go a step further to theorize that perhaps AZ, Mr. Fuji (aka Dr. Fuji), and Charon (possibly Charon Backlot) we’re all working together on their respective resurrection projects and possibly in pursuit of the same project/goal.

    If you've played Pokemon Platinum, you should know, that the boy is more or less confirmed to be Charon. He was the one who found Rotom and gave it its name. Given the fact that Charon is not so young himself, when we first see him in Platinum, I highly doubt that Mr. Backlot is he original owner of the Chateau, rather one of his ancestors is. You also did not mention the cursed painting at all. In BD/SP the face on the picture is much more clear and looks like from a completely different time.

    Alternate theory: The Old Chateau used to belong to Cyrus's family.
    Evidence:
    1. We have met Cyrus' ancestor (Cyllene) in Legends: Arceus, proving that Cyrus's family has been in Sinnoh for a long time and so could conceivably have been rich and/or important enough to own a mansion/chateau at one point.
    2. In Pokemon: Masters there is dialogue implying that Cyrus has a previous relationship with a Rotom, maybe he befriended the Rotom that lives in the Old Chateau as a child?
    3. His family finding out about Rotom and being spooked and thus leaving the mansion to rot, thus forcefully ending Cyrus' friendship with Rotom, could be a strong piece of backstory explaining Cyrus' ideals in the modern day

    A flaw in your theory but also what connects some of the dots you mentioned: the state of the old chatou is something akin to decades of neglect. Which brought me to think, the generations painting and the actual man in the main anime are similar indeed, almost like father and son... what if the chatou was actually owned by his dad, the girl would have been his sister and both died somehow... let's say it had nothing to do with rotom but some criminal, after all his defenses of the current mansion is based on physical assaults and if someone broke in cause they are rich and killed the lord and daughter, then he would indeed run away as far as possible from that spot. Now this boy of the diary could also have been him, spending his cash to make rotom items for his friend, but rotom never left the house that he vowed to never enter again.
    All your missing dots connected, the points you stated that had a little loop altered but fitting and we have what I believe the perfect theory as to who and why which also makes both anime fit

    • @Volkaroar
      @Volkaroar Год назад

      But the problem with this is that it doesn't connect how Rotom fits in to this or why it's a significant pokemon to be found specifically there. There's also no indication that the father and daughter were indeed killed by an intruder and Rotom had nothing to do with it. Why blame rotom when a criminal is to blame?

    • @DrakeBaku
      @DrakeBaku Год назад

      @@Volkaroar why should it explain rotom, through, it is well possible that rotom's existence in the mansion is an entirely separate case, a pokemon that began living in that mansion at some point and decided to never leave waiting for his friend to return one day. Meanwhile a tragedy happened and the friend rotom is waiting for ran away, both in a sense waiting for the other to return/follow. Things like that can always happen

      @DrakeBaku Год назад

      @@Volkaroar did you even watch the video, hoops stated a lot of points but there were gaps, dots that could not be connected, rotom has a role as friend of the child of the owner of the place, but for unknown reasons it was abandond, then there is this guy who has made an replica of the place, has a statue that could very likely be from there and the anime is also taken into consideration, there is also the unknown parts of why are there even ghosts, who were they, hoops came with a good theory to connect the very overly coincidences but it has some issues, but to run it by you, it meant rotom killed the people instead
      Rotom are not known as murderous, too many ghosts for an accidental, as most who touch rotom don't die
      The home of the assumed old inhabitant of the house has physical protection that is pointless against a ghost pokemon
      So the assumption that rotom is the killer is unlikely
      As that there are some other matters
      Now there is am owner who ran and rebuild his childhood home elsewhere with lots of protection, people who died in am old building
      It does not need to be an criminal per see, thay was an example of its self, the place could have caught fire and left a single survivor
      Point was he ran and while he loved the he he never wanted to return to his previous one cause of trauma
      Both hoops and I covered that concept
      Also just as an side note, why do Pikachu live only in viridian forest in Kanto, why are ghastly always at spots like graveyards
      It's an habitat, rotoms fit into the habitat of abandond buildings where there are devices left for it to inhabit so it's entire point in that building could just as easy be that it's a perfect home for it
      But that is a side note, mostly it could be that rotom was there before the people who turned ghost died and likely as with pretty much all rotom stories was a friend of a child living there, very likely the one who had ran away for some reason and rotom had been waiting for years
      Which is rotoms role into the place
      A typical rotom story, he is waiting for the child he was friends with but something happened, people died and the friend ran away to the other side of the region to rebuild the house with his inheritance

    • @Volkaroar
      @Volkaroar Год назад

      @@DrakeBaku totally watched the video, but wouldn't you think accidents wouldn't happen if a rotom would inhabit an appliance and cause issues that may have lead to the harm or deaths of characters? It's more than possible some mishaps could occur when possessing an appliance and leaving it afterwards for the sake of causing pranks but unintended consequences.
      I personally just think your reasoning of a criminal came in and killed people is too lacklustre and, while pokemon can be dark at times, they never really go full tilt into murder especially in a kids game. There's clearly some connection between the old chateau and rotom, but you dismiss it entirely based on no evidence but rather coincidence that maybe rotom had nothing to do with them and was just two different matters entirely. I'd like you to point out where in the video does this suggest that this could have occurred, where the family was killed by a criminal specifically. I'll wait.
      Point here is I disagree that the reason for your thinking of this theory isn't mutually exclusive when it very much can be. So to dismiss it in the way you do is not only uncreative and boring, but also a lazy way to tie things together. Maybe a criminal did come in and kill members of the family, and rotom is just a victim of circumstance. Seems kinda bland for a place with lore and history behind it, don't ya think?

    I have a better theory based on your same evidence, that I think makes even more sense:
    Unless I'm mistaken, we don't know where Mr. Backlot's money comes from. But the amount of it, as well as his house being so formal and having maids and such, suggests that it's old money. More recently rich families wouldn't have developed the taste for that kind of luxury.
    So, let's take that and say Mr. Backlot's money is old money, family money, right? In other words, his parents were rich too.
    I think the Old Chateau's last owner, before it became abandoned, and based on the same evidence in this video, was Mr. Backlot's Dad. You're right that Mr. Backlot bears a resemblance to the man in the large portrait of the Old Chateau, but Mr. Backlot is noticeably younger than the man in the portrait, and his scenes occur in the same general time period as that portrait is seen.
    So, no, I think the fellow in the Old Chateau's portrait is Mr. Backlot's father.
    In turn, I think the little boy who befriends Rotom was Mr. Backlot himself. The ghosts in the Old Chateau could in turn have been a little sister and the butler, or the old man perhaps even Mr. Backlot's dad himself.
    The tale then becomes a much more tragic one, where Mr. Backlot leaves the Old Chateau behind because of survivor's guilt. The time he as a kid was shocked by Rotom could, from a storytelling perspective, be viewed as foreshadowing. That turns it into a story where some time after that happened, after Mr. Backlot was shocked by Rotom and made unconscious, Rotom inadvertently killed his father and perhaps little sister. But by not having acknowledged Rotom as the threat that it is when he was first shocked by it, and subsequently having reacted accordingly, even if Rotom is benevolent, Mr. Backlot then feels culpable for his father and sister's deaths.
    And THAT'S why he leaves the Old Chateau behind. Childhood trauma, and he can't bear to face the ghosts of his father and sister.
    It even explains his fascination with rare Pokemon: He wants to study them and better understand them, and invites others to do the same -- but IN A SAFE AND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT, so that what happened to him won't ever happen to any kid again. Which I have to say feels like a very Pokemon-esque conclusion to the hypothetical story -- Passionately doing one's part to make the future a better place.

      I disagree. Respectfully... *You* should probably look into Cyrus' backstory more. Cyrus a) is canonically only 27 years old at the time of the events in D/P/Pl, and b) was born and raised in Sunyshore City... the opposite end of Sinnoh.
      If the Old Chateau were Cyrus', then it'd have to have been his after he grew up. He was born and raised in Sunyshore. So let's say at best he gets it when he's 18, after graduating school and becoming an adult in the eyes of the law. That's only 9 years before the events of the story. You're saying the Old Chateau was brand-spanking new... 9 years ago...? And then, what, he abandons it a handful of years after getting it?
      Moreover, if the little girl were Cyrus' little sister who died, why would she be haunting the Old Chateau and not their parents' home in Sunyshore where they most assuredly both grew up and where or at minimum near where she probably would've died?
      Even if Cyrus IS rich, which to be fair he's known to be, him having owned the Old Chateau just doesn't make much sense. It doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Who's the old man in the portrait then? Cyrus' parents were abusive and his grandfather indicates he didn't take him in and regrets it; Cyrus is unlikely to feel a connection to any of his relatives. Hell, he's known not to feel a connection to virtually any humans at all -- Why would he have a ginormous portrait of an old man?
      A far, far better theory is the one I outlined in my comment a year ago: The Old Chateau belonged to the Backlot family, Mr. Backlot not only grew up there but he was the little boy shocked by Rotom, and Rotom probably accidentally killed some members of his family which explains his deep desire to understand rare Pokémon *in a safe and controlled environment*. The old man in the Old Chateau's portraits is probably Mr. Backlot's father. etc.

    Ok imma give a huge bomb to your theory. In platinum the young boy is confirmed to be the scientist Charon. He also took over Galactic when Cyrus stayed in the Distortion Realm. He befriended Rotom but scared it away in a moment of anger. He made the motors you find hoping to bring it back. He never found it, much to his sadness.
    I would say the following is the real reason the mansion is haunted:
    Charon in a moment of anger scares Rotom away. In its sadness Rotom goes to the Chateu and causes and electrical overload, setting the place on fire. Note the burn marks on the walls and carpets. The girl was probably playing in her room while the butler was making dinner, hence why they died in the fire. Now as for the reason the secret key is in the trash can in the remakes (as it was platinum exclusive in the originals) was probably discarded by Charon after looking there but gave up when he found nothing.

    A long time ago, when I was a teen, I made up a story about what happened in the Old Chateau and it was kinda darker.
    It involved Darkrai, kinda the same way he interacts with the Canalave sleeping boy. Basically, Darkrai targeted this little girl, who was most likely related to Blacklot. This interaction ended up in her falling asleep and dying, and this affected greatly the rest of the family. We know that there is an Antidote item in the room where the Buttler ghost appears. So I guess the Buttler was poisoned or was the poisoner? And Rotom was just the little girl's pet who went to hide on the TV cause he was scared of Darkrai. As time passed on, the other Blacklot, the one who owns the other mansion could never claim it because of the heavy hauntings happening, and because of what happened to his relatives there, so he decided to just, let it sit there, to be forgotten.

  • @Volkaroar
    @Volkaroar Год назад

    So this is a good theory, but I think it just needs a BIT more things to tie it together neatly. I think you're right in that Mr. Backlot, or an ancestor of his, owned the mansion and was the original mansion and trophy garden. We know that in the games the trophy garden is home to rare pokemon that cannot be normally caught and only received as gift pokemon in previous games (Eevee, Porygon, Castform). Notice how the rare pokemon all happen to be normal types, which are also known to be directly immune to ghost types. It probably means he doesn't want any ghost type pokemon whatsoever near his garden, especially with the potential history behind it and why he has patrolmen active during the night when ghost type pokemon are the most active.
    Mr. Backlot prides himself in the rare pokemon he has in his garden, so it's likely that Rotom wasn't a pokemon that took over and haunted the mansion, but rather was brought in by Mr. Backlot, or his ancestors, so that it could be promoted and featured before Rotom started creating havoc and caused the potential harmful effects and deaths of members of his family. Pride and envy is a big thing with Mr. Backlot, so having a rare pokemon like Rotom to be featured isn't out of the question and would make sense to attract people to his garden. He may even have been that little boy who was shocked unconscious by Rotom too and instilled the fear of Ghost type pokemon. This would explain why the move across the mountain to be as far away from the original pokemon mansion, the old chateau, would occur.
    I think with this extra connection into his history would tie in this theory better to make for a haunting tale regarding the old chateau. This extra bit of speculation just seems to make your theory as tight as it could be.

    04:12, 06:29 - Bold of you to assume that only the richest man you've met would be rich enough to have a big fancy house in a forrest. I'm pretty sure any rich person (that has enough money to be called rich in the first place) has enough money to have a big fancy house in a forrest.
    07:25 - Also, any rich person would have heavy security around their property, it doesn't indicate that they're afraid of ghost.

    It is a high stretch that the painting is mr backlot. Because in the episode it is showing that Hunter has taken form of the man in the painting. It could be possible that him the Butler and a little girl could have perished within the house years ago. I doubt the building itself was on fire at all or else there would be scorch marks everywhere or would have been completely burn down itself. My guess is that it was just abandoned after the owner the Butler and the little girl have been reportedly haunting the area. My theory is that the owner was friends with rotum. Way back then. But something tragic happened to that family. So to escape it the rotum went into the TV on its own choice to keep itself safe because it was scared. Another theory is. That team galactic had a hand in their demise because they would not hand over the rotum. So the old guy that was on the painting told rotom to hide in the TV until it's safe to come out. But unfortunately that time wouldn't come for a very long time and the family living at that chateau was murdered because of not giving rotom to them. Or a third theory of mine is that the guy in The portrait is mr backlots father. And he was forced to leave the chateau because of the tragic incident that took their lives. So in his father's memory and the memories that he had their he created a chateau House of his own with plenty of guards

    I can't stop seeing how the old chateau is right where the galaxy hall is in legends arceus, or how the layout of the buildings are so similar. Captain Cyllene says Galaxy Team built it themselves, and is in fact still under construction at the start of the game with the scaffolding coming down as you progress the story. I know eterna forest music is played nowhere near galaxy hall in legends arceus, but where it is played is also nowhere near where eterna forest eventually grows, and is actually played somewhere around where oreburgh city stands in diamond and pearl. Jubilife village and jubilife city are not in the same places, with jubilife city being located somewhere in the obsidian fieldlands of legends arceus, between the horseshoe plains and aspiration Hill most likely.

    • @johnd4082

      One more thing, the galaxy team commander in legends arceus is actually an ancestor of professor rowan, meaning if anyone has a right to claim the old chateau, it would be the professor himself.

    in Platinum Gardenia would stare at the mansion and i think kinda implying she had some kinda connection to it, true Mr. Backlot is the only one WE KNOW(could be more we never seen or no longer around during the events of our adventure) as the player whos rich enough who can do it but another reason why Backlot has more beefed up security could be that he was friends or acquaintances of the previous master of the house and after hearing the grim news of what happens which lead it to end up the way it is and caused the death of a little girl in butler and possibly more or maybe Backlot had nothing to do with them but i would imagine it had the news and was spread around at the time which also could've influenced Backlot to hire more protection.

    While a cool theory. You completely left out one of the most obvious incriminating pieces of evidence.
    The fact you can catch WILD GENGAR here. Some of Gengars pokedex entries indicate that Gengar were ONCE people who died.
    The fact there are wild ghastly and gengar and you have the butler and little girl.
    Something happened in the Chateu in the forest.
    It could have bene an accident.. or more sinsterly... on purpose.
    But it's interesting you pointed out that he moved a forest on one side of sinnoh to totally different side of the country. AND put a literal mountain between him and the oldmansion. The old mansion was in the middle of a forest at the base of a mountain. His new mansion is in an open field, not a forest. And it makes sense he would have a wall surrounding his kansion and prized property And have security guards.
    I feel you focused WAY too kich on the whole ROTOM thing.
    Not only that Rotom is possessing thr TV. The Gengar is possessing the Portrait and it's eyes glow red and follow you.
    Some sort of weird stuff happened at the old Chateu and the rich guy abandoned it.😮

    interesting video, I agree with you on one thing, there is certainly a connection between Backlot's mansion and the old Chateau. However, it's never really stated how long ago the mansion was abandoned and Mr. Backlot in his depictions doesn't look that old, maybe in his 40s or 50s so I don't know if enough time could have passed for Backlot to abandon the mansion and for it fall into such a state of disrepair. A more probable explanation is that both mansions were built around the same time in history, hence the similar architecture, and one was abandoned and haunted and one was was sold or passed down, or perhaps both were abandoned and Mr. Backlot used his wealth to restore his one so he could live luxuriously while still being close to Amity Square (Hearthome City, despite its appeal, has mostly apartments).

    I like this theory. Also, it is pretty much canon that the person who became friends with Rotom is actually Cyrus.
    In both Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and Pokemon Masters, Cyrus from Team Rainbow Rocket specifically had some reaction to Rotom, acknowledging that he was once a very close friend with a Rotom. It is very possible that something happened to Cyrus and Rotom and eventually, they were separated, possibly causing Cyrus to decide to make a new Universe because he believes emotions shouldn't exist, and Rotom is one of the few things in the series that could actually give Cyrus some emotional touches. Cyrus was also mentioned by some NPCs that when he was a kid he liked to play with robots and didn't like to play with other kids or humans, so it makes sense he will become friends with Rotom and consider Rotom as a very valuable friend, so valuable that once he lost this friend he decided to destroy the whole universe.
    Oh yeah, did I mention the place you can use the Rotom Key is inside the Galactic building? Who would be able to hide things there? Cyrus.
    Also in BDSP if you encounter Cyrus in the Battle Tower, he will use a Rotom. That's a very sweet reference to the relationship between him and Rotom.

    TW: this is kinda dark, but I think it’s the best explanation of the old chateau. I think the little girl haunting the mansion was the one who played with Rotom like the book says. She lived there with the old man that haunts the chateau, presumably her grandfather. When Rotom disappears in the story it says Rotom’s friend searched forever to find it. I think the little girl ran away, leaving the old man alone on the mansion where he eventually dies. I think the girl was searching for so long, and being a little kid, could have gone hungry or not slept during this time. I think when she found Rotom, Rotom was so excited to see her that he shocked her again, and with her being so weak she died. I think that explains why she would be haunting the chateau, and why Rotom went back there with her. It also suggests the old man was haunting the chateau just waiting for the little girl to come home. That’s my theory, and I think it makes a lot more sense, as it heavily relies on the concrete evidence in the game, being the book with the story about Rotom

    There is actually one more thing linking Mr. Backlot to the Old Chateau, and that is the fact that in the Old Chateau's entrance there is one statue, but it seems like it would have an accompanying statue to make the room more asymmetrical, like in the other mansion. It's possible that the heavily guarded statue in the room where Mr. Backlot presides came from the entryway of the Old Chateau, and is heavily guarded because it is originally from the Old Chateau, because why else would a statue, that there are plenty of similar ones of in his mansion, be so heavily guarded that no-one is even allowed to touch it?
    This is just speculation, but I always found it odd that the entryway of the Old Chateau wasn't asymmetrical, like it seems it would've been.

    12:27 OBJECTION! Are you suggesting that Mr. Backlot..... IS CYRUS' BROTHER? There is a clear contradiction in your "evidence" that the Toy Robot was Mr. Backlot's! The fact Cyrus' parents in Sunyshore City mention the Toy Robot! Why would they know who Mr. Backlot was, unless he's related to Cyrus by blood relation or adoption?
    Ok, I'm done with Phoenix Wright bit, but, seriously, how is the TOY ROBOT your evidence of Mr. Backlot owning the Old Chateau? It's pretty well known Cyrus owned the Toy Robot and met Rotom. I have no evidence to prove Mr. Backlot DIDN'T own the Old Chateau, but, there's no evidence he DID own it either. For all we know it could've been Gardenia's home, then she developed a fear of Ghosts when a Rotom took control of her parents' Lawnmower. She is seen IN Eterna Forest when you can go after Rotom, looking straight at the Old Chateau. Again, there's no supporting evidence of WHO lived there.
