Just as I was starting to lament the absence of our troubadours from the 60s and 70s, I stumble across this video. You are one of many voices that helped me through the rough years of Vietnam and the civil rights struggles of my youth. It saddens me that we don't have more activists and singesr like you and Woody and Arlo and Bob (among others) willing to stand up to the Nasty Man today.

About time and so fitting that it is Joan. A dear friend I met in grade school introduced me to Joan. I have been hooked every sense. She has always been there to defend right from wrong. This administration has given her much to write about. Thank you, Joan.

When I was a young girl of 15, 16, 17, and 18 and the world was all out of sorts and young men rather than planning their futures were being forced to put on uniforms, grab a gun and run off to die in a rice paddy halfway around the world and the older folks who we once obeyed and listened to and, yes, sometimes even wanted to grow up and be like, were calling us peace-freaks and misguided and telling us to wake up, grown up, man up, and shut up, I became enchanted with the power of the protest song and its ability to speak to the hearts of the people. It was a way of venting and saying what we wanted to say wrapped in a tune and that somehow made what we wanted to say okay and less offensive and more palatable. Many embraced the genre, many were good, but several were outstanding. One of those that were outstanding then, and remains so now is Joan Baez. Joan nails it again. Thank you.

I needed to hear this. My favorite line is "when the dirt on this man finally hits the fan......he will be finally and forever obsolete." May this be a prophesy! I think it will, and the tip of the iceberg was Helsinki when journalists Jonathan Lemire and Jeff Mason asked the questions heard 'round the world.
