  • Hi everyone! I am sharing this beautiful Aegis! Framed and Layered wire wrapped pendant tutorial, free until July 31, 2024! This is normally a Membership Only tutorial so I hope you'll enjoy it for this limited time! I am relocating my life and studio 2000 miles, so thought I'd show you all appreciation for supporting my channel during this time. I will create new content and be back on schedule beginning August 2024 from my new home and studio in New Hampshire! Thank you again!

    Hi Members! I hope you enjoy this gorgeous freeform pendant! Aegis! This is a fun and whimsical, free-form frame that gives you quite a bit of room to just 'enjoy it'... nothing symmetrical or difficult but a gorgeous unique result each time. This technique can be applied to any shape stone or even a multiple-stone pendant (up next). I use 16 gauge wire for the main frame because of it's strength even at dead soft. I show us how to shape and hammer the big wire into a sturdy frame that will give the stone(s) good beginning security... and then I show us how to attach and use additional decorative wires to further secure the stone and make design.
    I go into details about how to make those cute flared spiral ends pointy and how to taper the wire.
    I talk about the important things that make the stone stay in place and I show how to hand sand the hammered elements to make them lovely and refine the look.
    This is a good back to basics for hammered and layered frames, shaping, adding wires, and sanding while still being whimsical and fun!
    The base frame is 15 inches of 16g round soft copper wire.
    The add-on wires are 12 inches of 18g round soft copper and 12 inches of 20g round soft copper.
    You can sub with or mix with square wries too!
    The stone is Oval 1.25long x .75 wide and about 3mm thick, Strawberry Quartz.

      Such an elegant design!
      And as usual excellent description!
      Could it also be possible to use sterling silver instead of copper, and would you use the same gauges then?

      I will be near Littleton! I love the area so much, so beautiful and such cute towns!

      Thank you so much! Yes, you can use Sterling and do this same design, the gauges would be the same if you are using the same size stone too. Enjoy! I appreciate your comment!

    I’ve never seen ANYONE use a board like yours to help them make a piece symmetrical. My mind is blown, and I think you may have solved my frustration with trying to do these pieces lol THANK YOU!!

      Yay! I love it when we find new tools! Yes, I used to teach my students to work on 4 square Grid paper (4 squares = 1 inch)... but the Cricut board doesn't waste paper. 😘🥳🙏❤️. This exact board is on my Amazon Associates store if you are interested. Amazon pays me a small commission if you buy tools using my links from my store, so thank you in advance for your support! Here's my store link, the Cricut board is the first item in the catalog. 🙏❤️ www.perfectlytwistedjewelry.com/buy-tools-and-supplies.html

    Eee..ahh, disaster struck omg note to self practice hammering before trying for the first time on a pendant, I was doing so well with 😂🤣 I can’t believe I’m laughing but that’s how monumentally I just royally stuffed up lol..I don’t know if I can save it, the more I hammered the worse it got 🤔😁..and here I was hoping to actually get an end product that even remotely resembled Aegis…guess I should of waited for the chasing hammer instead of using the little flat head jewellers one I have 😩 oh well hopefully I might be able to hide how bad it is…or do I ditch it and start again 🤔…I think I’ll turn the hammer over and see if the copper survives a little bit of patterning to match all the other dents lol, it’s terribly thin and may not..oh well another lesson learned 🤪🥰

    • @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
      @PerfectlyTwistedJewelry  4 дня назад

      Oh my dear, Seer! You are on the right track, try to add texture now to the whole thing is probably best to disguise the 'over hammered' area. Don't forget to sand the edges smooth as this will sharpen them also. If the frame is still thick enough to use, then try to use it, otherwise, yes, call it great practice and start again. I hope you can salvage your piece! Let me know how you're doing. xoxo
