To kick the podcast off on the right foot, I had my friends Adam & Steve from Blue Line Flies on to talk. Adam and Steve are lifelong best friends from Northern Alabama who grew up chasing smallmouth on their local rivers. With no fly shop in their area, they were left having to get their hands dirty and figure out how this whole fly fishing thing was done, on their own. Fly tying became a necessity for them with a lack of accessibility to flies & outfitters. This all played into the formation of Blue Line Flies and what it is today. Adam & Steve offer some great lessons for anglers--of all levels--as they had to figure out much of what they know on their own. They highlight their shortcomings when growing up and how other anglers can excel quicker than they did. We also talk about the Short Bus Diaries, Northern Natives, and other film projects we are working on. You'll get to hear more about how we met and how we started making trips together. This was an awesome conversation and I hope you all enjoy it.

I would like to send out a huge thanks to Scotty, Adam, and Steve. Ya'll are great a source of information and entertainment. So many misconception about fly fishing are out there. I have recently got into fly fishing after years of fishing a spinning rod. I have tried to convince my dad many times that fly-fishing consists of more flies than a just popper or just top water. Until recently, he saw me catch more bass, bream, and crappie than him and he realized I wasn't fishing top water.

Great stuff! Interesting to hear about yalls intro to fly fishing.. I’m 33 and grew up near the Catskills and had the instruction available to do all of this. Books were important.. residual from the boom in the 80s. This stuff has been cyclical. Books were huge in the 80s-early 2000s, then dvds/vhs, then websites, now what you all are doing.

Man this was a good podcast! I'd definitely have a beer with the Blue Line guys. Maybe you try to plan a western fishing trip around the king salmon spawn in Idaho? I feel like that would be pretty sweet. I'm finally getting into tying my own flies after fly fishing for about 5 years and I can see why y'all are so into it. The ability to fix or alter your fly any way you want makes for some cool new bugs! I don't have a big enough setup now but I'd like to try an alligator gar fly fishing trip here in Texas sometime and hearing y'all talk about how adaptive fly fishing is only makes me want to go more. I appreciate the good content and I'll probably finish all of your videos in a couple of days. Keep it up bud!

For a "fly company" to call a popper "not a bass fly" im already skeptical. Just cuz YOU can't finesse a smallie on a popper doesn't mean it doesn't work or its not a bass fly. All game fish except the soft ones (trout and salmon) crush topwater. And i checked there flies and the can definitely tie, I just think they need a little versatile fishing experience before they make bold claims like "poppers aren't for bass"
