Love catching gar they are one of the tastiest fish in freshwater those where longnose gar btw spots have a much shorter and wider snout and are usually don’t in still water
I was fishing a pond yesterday for bass with a popper frog and while I did manage a few bass but by far i had more strikes from gars which at 1st i thought were aggressive bluegills until I seen the gar swimming up to it and with 1 more pop the gar lashed out but couldn't get him hooked and time after time the same thing would happen even watching gars immediately raging through the cattails, tail and dorsal fin above water straight at my frog. Really cool learning experience but couldn't get a good hookset on a single 1
A: that was a longnose gar and B: I catch plenty of gar with the hook penetrating the mouth- no nylon needed. Nylon strands left in their mouth can also prevent them from opening their mouth once released.
Hey guys I thought I would say Thank you. You have inspired me to start my own fishing fly fishing channel as well. Id love to colab sometime. Keep your eyes out. Lmk If you guys need any help. Located in SLC area.

We think so! We hope this video will make folks appreciate gar fishing a little more.
Thanks for the tips! I fish a river that’s loaded with gar. They always lash out at my streamers. Dino appreciation!
Awesome! Need to bring some gar flies in case it's slow one day!
Awesome video, Nice work Steve!
Great video definitely something different would love to see more on gar
Didn't expect to hear anyone say they want to see more gar, but you got it! We'll get another one on the deck for next summer.

Ya, we need to get Steve brushed up on his gar species.
Flies that tangle the gars mouths are for rookies! use Clousers and hook 'em like man.
You're better than us and we know it.
