An acceptance speech that absolutely DEFIED all others before or since. Truly one of the funniest, most off-the-cuff zaniest speeches of all time from an established actor with a resume longer than his poop who won for one of the most hilarious performances of all time in City Slickers. Well done Mr. Palance may you RIP.

City Slickers one of my favorite films and for a long time I questioned why Jack Palance got the Oscar nod, he probably has a total of 15 minutes screen time. But as I got older I realized, you truly believed that man was a badass cowboy, no questions asked.

Handsome when young, in a hard kind of way, he was an ideal heavy in films.
Of UKRAINIAN heritage, from a coal miner father, he was one of several actors having served in WW2. Most were patriots, and by that era's standards, were real men...having character and toughness.
Yes, he did a few pushups..and probably could have done more. But he was 73 at the time, and there are more than a few (relative) men in their 70's (and even beyond) who can do those basic strength exercises. You just have to stay fit. On the other hand, in society today, where men and boys have become feminized, here may be much younger men who can't do what Mr. Palance did on that stage.
Wish there were more actors like him today.
