I updated my A7III last December when they released the new firmware. The process is significantly more difficult than it needs to be. It is nice that you make these videos so we have a guide that explains it all. I hope you guys are doing well, Mike.
Good to hear you got it working. I was on 3.0 with my mac and I knew I had to upgrade but been putting it off until now...glad to see they made this patch but they really should have an easier way to upgrade like the canons with the SD card...that would be so much easier and it would mean they wouldn't have to build these very basic looking bits of software that we have to struggle our way through. We're all good dude, I hope all is good with you guys...and well see what happens tomorrow...when your country goes either red or blue!! 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Glad to hear that you guys are well. Mike. Yes, today is the day. Hopefully we will have a clear winner so we can get a break from the political mess that Presidential elections have become.
Indeed! It's pretty crazy these days...there should be a cap on funding a bit like the NFL and they should have a combine as well to find the best one...😆
Thanks. I ended up bricking my A7s after several attempts on various Macs in the house. I thought all hope was lost and that I would have to mail it in to someone for an expensive repair. Then it dawned on me - my kid has a gaming PC in his bedroom! I went in, kicked him off, downloaded the right firmware from Sony, plugged in the bricked camera to his computer, and voila! The installation process worked like a charm.
My first (and last) Sony. After 3 days of trying every trick I could find on the web, I am still unable to update the newly aqquired A7R3 from 1.00 to 3.10 on Mac OS mojave 10.14.6 ... Yours was the most encouraging and latest solution. I appreciate your effort but I have been unsuccessful after dozens of attempts using many configurations and cables (including usb-c that came in the box), various ports, applying every tool ,updater, patch, combo I have read about. Nothing works. I am giving up on sony. Thank you for your vid.
It is so annoying ins't it ... I wish they would use the SD card update system like Canon use ... I do have one other way to try ... it is using parallels to run a windows emulator ... and there is no cost involved if you use the parallels trial period to do it in. Here's the link to how I did it: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t 👍
Kudos! Finally got the updater to work on my a6400 in MacOS 10.15.4 using your instructions. Love these Sony cameras but it's a far cry from the Canon firmware updates via an SD card that take about a minute!
Great to hear you got it to work Daniel! It is a right pain in the arse isn't it!! I really do wish they would take on the same system as canon... Thanks for watching 😁👍
This procedure also works for updating Sony lens firmware. Instead of "SystemSoftwareUpdater" (camera body firmware), you will be dragging and dropping the "LensSystemSoftwareUpdater" (lens firmware) onto the DriverLoader_1015. Otherwise, the process is the exact same. The software had trouble finding my camera (6:42), so I had to restart my computer and camera before I was finally able to get it to recognize my a6300 and SEL24F18Z lens. Thank you so much for your help!
I'm doing everything correctly when downloading but when it comes time to drag and drop the system updater onto the driver, all I keep getting is an exclamation icon with the driver image in front of it saying "Drag-and-drop to start which is exactly what I'm doing.. so frustrating cause I know I am almost there. UPDATE:: You have to do what he did, the warning message will appear, leave it, click the software file again and at the bottom the driver icon tile will pop up, DROP IT ONTO THAT!! ** 2nd UPDATE** system updater file does not stay open and crashes. Don’t know why, but looks like a dead end. UPDATE * deleted everything, DOWNLOAD songs SSUHELPER File. I think they heard everyone talking, you don’t need the driver supplied here. Follow the Sony website prompts and it got me squared away. Cheers.
I trided with my Mac OSx Sequoia 15.0 MacBookPro 14 and the download ed files you have mentioned. No luck. The downloadd files do not show a resources file, but the icons of the downloaded DL1101_1910a and Update_ILCE6300V201 did show the two icons. The result was a pop-up stating, "Drag-and -Drop to start" with a lot of Japanese in sentence below and an "OK" button. Nothing opened, No window to start. ?? Any ideas? Thanks.
Bravo! You just saved my sanity! The patch worked the first time. If you didn’t share this... I’d still be following the instructions with no luck. 🥺 Really. Thank you!!! 😁🎉
For anyone still struggling with this... I couldn’t get the Mac patch approach to work tried 5 times.. so in the end I downloaded the parallels trial software, this then asked if I wanted to download a windows 10, which I did... then into internet explorer and the Sony site... downloaded the update for windows instead... worked instantly without issue.. took about 30mins from starting the parallels installation to updated firmware on my camera.. all the best
@@mikesphotography parallels allows you to run both a windows and OS concurrently.. windows running in a virtual machine. it seemed the easiest way to do it for this temporary need rather than partitioning the hard drive for a separate instance of windows at boot up. Hope it's of some use, I certainly get enough guidance from RUclips its nice to give back occasionally !!
That's great Luke. I did think of setting up a dual operating system but I've only ever tried it with a partition...a virtual machine sounds like a much better way to do it. 👍 I might have to make a video on this as so many people are struggling to update their cameras on Macs...and would definitely benefit from it. Thanks so much for letting us know. 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Morning Mike, yes all done from a MacBook pro 2014 running on Big Sur. www.parallels.com/uk/ The free tree doesn't require any financials for an auto renew, so should just time expire.. seems ideal for a short term usage like this. Hi Mike, thanks for your help. I got almost all of the way trying your suggestions and links but it kept shutting me out on 10.15.7. This is unbelievable that Sony does not sort this process out in 2021. I'm truly astounded at how hard this is. Sony, come on!!!
It sucks...I feel the same...it's about time big companies got on to make their products work together more efficiently. I'd did a video recently on a different way to upgrade, and it worked really well. ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html Check it out when you get the chance. 👍
Thanks I will try yet again. I had several goes with my A9 and it simply wouldn’t talk to my camera. If it doesn’t work after your very clear tutorial I might try it on a Windows computer.
Hi Keith, It is frustrating. I think it has a lot to do with the security levels of the Mac OS and third party programs. The best bet is to find a friend with a windows computer. It works seamlessly with that operating system. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Keith, if you haven't been successful yet, there is another way and I just uploaded a walk through tutorial on it. Check it out when you get the chance: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html 👍
@@mikesphotography Sony, last count, does not recognise Apple's Big Sur. Finally, I hooked up with a friend who had a Windows computer and I eventually got the update to work after several attempts. This really is the worst firmware updating method I have ever come across.

Thanks for this as I’m still relatively new to the Sony system but my, what a crazy and counter productive process. As I got more into photography, everyone told me that I’ll need a Mac or I’ll be sorry. I had left Apple some years ago because they frustrated me with how inflexible they were with everything. I got a MacBook Pro reluctantly and while LightRoom works great on it, I really think I’d have been just fine getting a well equipped windows laptop. Lucky for me, I have a windows desktop PC which I will definitely be using should my firmware need upgrading. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
I know, it's such a pain to get this to work on a mac...the sony engineers are definitely PC users! 😆 I'm looking forward to getting my PC in the new year!! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Love you video! I was wondering if you could share the basics for how to create videos so clean. as in Audio, focal Length, Lighting, etc. Im going to start making videos for real estate and would love them to look and sound as clean as yours
Thanks very much for your kind words. For videography, especially real estate, you want to keep your camera as steady as possible. I've shot some real estate videos in the past and the main thing is to get some decent light in the property and try to balance it out. I used to practice at my friends houses until I got this sorted. If you have a constant video light bounced off the ceiling, and play with the brightness, you can normally get this to the point where it looks good with soft bounced light. As for focal lengths, in my videos I use 25mm at f2 but with real estate, you want everything to be in focus for the wider shots, and you need to shoot really wide. This would be a 10mm with a crop sensor camera like the Sony A6000 series cameras or a 15mm with a full frame camera. You also want to set the focus halfway into the room so you get everything in focus. Then for the more creative shots, I'd use a 25mm prime lens with an aperture of f1.4 (full frame) or a 20mm f1.4 with a crop sensor. They are expensive but with one of these you can get the close up shots of details within the apartment or house you are filming. As for keeping the camera steady, a gimbal is great especially for the walkthrough sections in the video and well worth getting. Also if you can, get a slider as well. These make the static shots more dynamic with a bit of movement to keep the viewer engaged. If you have any talking in the video, I use the rode NTG3 mic through a preamp from Juiced link (company has disappeared but you might find one or two second hand) and then into my camera. This produces audio that is good enough for most things. The main thing to get clean video is to have enough light in the scene so you don't have to increase the iso in your camera and make the images noisy and grainy. I hope that helps. 👍
It is frustrating isn't it Travis. I have made another video to upgrade the firmware, it uses Parallels to run a windows emulator for the upgrade. ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html Thanks for watching 👍
I wanted to thank you for showing us how to update my A6000. finally, I was able to update the firmware.on my Mac (Catalina os) Thank you, Thank you.....
@@mikesphotography I love it! Much more light compared to the A7riii I had. You should do a video sharing your recommended a7c settings for video /photos if you haven't done so already 🙏🏽
Hi Mike: Thanks for creating and sharing this video. I am new to the Sony world, and I just purchased my Sony A7iii in September with the current version of the firmware. I am glad that you emphasized the need to just follow the screens. I have to share with you a story from August 2019 when I was upgrading a lens firmware for my newly purchased M. Zuiko 40-17 f2.8 lens. Long story short, I didn't watch the screens properly and disconnected the firmware update too early. As a result, the firmware didn't take and the lens was render useless. Fortunately, to me I had purchased a warranty coverage and the camera retailer I use was able to get this lens fixed at no cost to me. Keep Covid-19 safe! Cheers, Keith (Canada)
Ah man, I bet your heart sank when you realised what had happened...the Sony firmware system is such an antiquated way of doing it. I much prefer the canon system with SD cards...all you need then is an internet connection, a full battery and an SD card... Glad to hear you got the lens sorted in the end though. Thanks for sharing your experiences and thanks for watching, much appreciated. 😁👍
Hi and thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I am trying to update the drivers on my A73 but have just updated to Monterey and can't even get the updater to instal before getting a pop up saying I need to instal drivers for Sony though I have no idea which they are as that part is in Japanese text. Is there a workaround for this or am I hoping for too much? Thanks again.
Thanks very much! What I'd really like to see is an SD card firmware update system implemented instead...it would make it soooo much easier, like with the canon cameras...maybe one day we'll get a perfect camera! Thanks for watching. 😁👍
Literally been trying to do this for hours now, nothing is working. i love my sony camera but man this is the most ridiculously infuriating process for something that should be really simple. Thanks for making the video, unfortunately its not working for me.
Hi Mike, I just updated the a6600 with version 1.1, simply I use Windows OS and worked fine without the Mac long workaround solution. This may be the easiest way till Sony provide new update for Mac Big Sur. Thanks.
Hi Waleed! Yes, On macs it is getting harder to upgrade whereas on windows, it is really easy and straightforward. Sony still haven't provided a patch for big sur and I think it might be a while before they do. It is best to do what you did and find a windows computer or an older mac to upgrade with. I wish sony would change the firmware upgrade to just downloading a file on to the SD card, like canon do...that would get around this problem that so many people are having with upgrading... Thanks for watching. 😁👍
Mike - thank you so much for making this step by step video! Now, as ridiculous as Sony's firmware update process is, I seem to be having the most difficult time updating my a7ii. I have tried numerous times in the past with no success, and gave up for an entire year...... I've followed your tutorial, and here is where I can't proceed any further; after connecting the device via my USB cable, and disconnecting to reconnect again, anytime I click the "Next" button, there is absolutely no response. I've unplugged and plugged it back multiple times and still can not proceed with next. If you have any advice to help me get past this point it would be greatly appreciated! I'm photographing a chamber ensemble performance this weekend and need the silent shutter option desperately!!
Update: After 30min with Sony support, and 1hr30min on the phone with apple support to walk me through adjusting the kernel security settings on my MacBook M1 Pro, I have finally got the update to start running. Thanks again for this video!
have the A1 its now september 2021 and i still have problems on my mac this is a lifesaver. i had used it before and forgot about it and almost snapped my keyboard trying to install another firmware update
Haha! It sounds like you've gone through the same frustrations as a lot of us with sony cameras!! Glad to hear you got it sorted though. Which one ended up working for you? This one or the other way with parallels in my other video you commented on? 😁👍
@@mikesphotography it was the one with parralles. I went back to voice how mad i was going but mustve clicked on the wrong video. But yeah its crazy how many times i tried on mac to failure and how first time with windows it worked.
I have been successful using the updater but on older MacOS versions. I have an old MacMini with 10.15 and it works every time, no issues. I also have a old Windows laptop and the update is even easier on that platform. I really wish Sony would make the update really easy by allowing the update to happen through the SD card. Why they don't, I'll never know.
How interesting. It really is an oddball of a program. Some macs work effortlessly and others just don't seem to let it run. It is definitely easier on a windows machine, the sony engineers must be PC users...and then they leave the mac software updater to the intern!! 😆 An SD card update would be soooo much easier!! Thanks for watching. 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Not sure if you've seen Brian Smith guideline for updating Sony firmware. I have found it helpful. briansmith.com/guide-to-sony-camera-firmware-updates/
Thank you for the description of the update. Your explanation is simple and very understandable. The whole update procedure from Sony is a disaster. Comes rather from 1980. And, it also, unfortunately, does not work. Until 06:00 everything is OK. Further, it does not go then. Apart from the fact that I find this update scenario from Sony from the stone age, they should pay you for the good video :-) I go with the 6600 to the specialized trade. Sony and Nikon surely have the same developer there 🙈
It is a very backward process isn't it...I have another way to do it as well... check out this video: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html Although it still is a workaround as you have to install parallels and do it through a windows emulator. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Mike, great video. I'm having a problem and wondering if you could offer some insight. I'm using OS Catalina 10.15.7 and when I download the mac downloader OR the firmware from the Sony site, when it pops up it's saying it is not supported by this IOS. I can't load / unpack either of them. Any ideas?
Hi Brad, It sounds like they might have updated it to work with Big Sur...I have a few things that won't work on my mac now as I am still on Catalina... Although in saying that I have had a lot of people commenting saying that it isn't working on Big Sur... This updater is so frustrating...the best bet is to find a friend with a PC as it seems to work flawlessly on that. Sorry I couldn't help more. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Updating my camera at the moment, weird bug you have to click the progress bar to get updates haha fml sony, thought you bricked my camera it was sitting at no progress for agessss, clicked it and it jumped to 80% filled. Kept an eye and it completed shortly afterwards
It is a pretty antiquated process ins't it!! In the current generation of Sony cameras, they have moved to the same system as Canon, with a file that you put on the SD card and then update from there. Hopefully from now on, this is how they keep it! Thanks for watching and great to hear you stuck with it and successfully got the process done. 😁👍
Hello! I have a Sony A6000 (ver 3.20 it looks like) and I took some videos and pictures from this morning and now am trying to watch them on my Mac. The pictures show up but the videos are no where to be found...even trying to look in every folder. However, they still show up on my actual camera. Any thoughts?
Hi Cole, That is a good question and they aren't easy to find. The only way I could access them is to use sony's program catalyst browse, which is free ... but a pain to use. then click on the sd card, private, and then AVCHD. Then they should show up in this program. You can view them in this program by double clicking on them, or if you want them on your hard drive, you can export them as mp4 files. In future, I'd suggest changing the file type to mp4. these will then be available to copy from your hard drive. It is really annoying though ... Sony's file system is pretty rubbish when it comes to video. I hope that helps.
Had a tough time updating a newly inherited original a7/ILCE-7. 1. I only could get the camera to connect to the computer using the Sony USB cable. 2. I created a bootable Yosemite drive on an SD card, booted to it, and installed the software. Could not install on macOS 13 Ventura nor macOS 10.15 Catalina on my respective Mac's.
Hi, I've a sony a7iv and I tried several times in the lasts 3 Mac OS systems. it never works. I tried the way they say and with the way you explained but still nothing. If I open the updater with the camera on it recognize it and says to turn it off and restart the app but then nothing, never. now with the fact that finally they introduced the way to update the camera via sd card (finally and that's awesome), I don't care anymore camera updates being done via Mac, but what about all the lenses? It doesn't make sense to me to not being able to update lenses as well via sd card at this point, and again, with my Mac I haven't being able to make it work, not a single time. this sucks
That's a good point...to be honest I haven't ever updated a lens so I'm not 100% sure. Which lens are you trying to update? I might give it a go to see if I can figure it out...and then make a tutorial on it. 👍
It still doesn't work for me. I use A7iii with Big Sur 11.4 and I've tried all my usb-c ports and various cables and all the combinations of ports and cables.... I truly have no idea how to get this to work?! help me please

a6500 and iOS Big Sur. Got all the way through to where it was updating. While it was updating it stopped and said the update failed. It told me to disconnect and now my camera won't turn on. The updater will no longer recognize it. The only sign of life is the red light stays on next to the battery compartment. Did I brick it? Any advice? Thanks!
Good question Alison ... I haven't upgraded my OS yet so I'm not sure ... the only way to find out is to try it for yourself. If this way doesn't work, I have another way to do it as well: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Great video but unfortunately I can't get it to work on my A7R4. I've tried for hours, now, including your method. I'm on Big Sur which could be the problem.
Hi Joel, I think that's the problem. Ever since big Sur was released, I've been getting comments on this video like yours...it's so frustrating and such a bad way of updating the software. A download to SD card would make so much more sense and it would mean thy wouldn't have to keep updating the Sony software... Hopefully Sony will come out with a new patch soon.

Well, I sequentially followed this procedure about 12 times. Booted and rebooted my MAC and I only get to time code 5:50 on your video. On the first time around I had to do the security procedure in the System Prefs. No matter what, I can't get past this point. A few times the whole app crashed. I deleted everything a few times and re-downloaded everything again, and still I get to the window seen in TC 5:50. Plug/unplug the camera-nothing. Not sure why Sony makes things so difficult. I have ran into this same nonsense with our pro-cameras used in our TV studio. Maybe they just never told me how to hold my tongue just right in my mouth, or click my heals the magic number of times??? Been with MACs since my 512k machine! LOL!!! I have MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) running OSX 10.15.7. Sony A7iii with Ver.2.0 of course trying to go to Ver.4.0 Even tried various cables.... the camera always mounts on the desktop. Maybe I will take my camera to a camera shop and see if they can do it. Makes me feel helpless as I work on gear and app issues a lot and rarely have this kind of problem. Any ideas???

Edit: Thanks very much for your reply Mike - Im editing my original post as I've now realised the issue for me and am posting it here in case it helps anyone (and I've subscribed to your channel). I have just got a Sony A7R III and couldn’t get the camera to connect. I’d downloaded the A7R III updater, my camera said it was on firmware v 1, and the entire internet seemed to say the latest version was v 3. Tried all of this - nothing worked. 2 hours later gave up. After much digging this morning, I realised the update I was using was for the original A7R III not the A7R III (A) which I have. The updater seems to be very specific and treats them as separate cameras and as it doesn't get past the initial connection the software doesn't check your firmware itself. Also, to make it even more confusing the firmware numbering is different - the previous version is on firmware v3 the A version is still on v1 which is actually up to date but, you get no inkling of this. The kicker though is that as the A model is ‘new’ there is actually no firmware updater available at all so there is no choice between the original and the A version and any search ends up presenting you with A7III updater which you just try and use. This update then doesn’t connect properly and makes you think you have camera connection problem. The solution to this would be for Sony to have a universal updater that can connect to all models and then tells you if you need an update and then or pulls down for you the relevant firmware. Anyway - from some of my searches it seems like lots of people are falling foul of this so thought I’d mention it here. in case it helps anyone.
It's frustrating isn't it Jeremy, I wish they would do what Canon do and have a file you can download onto the SD card for the camera to do all the work ... You may indeed have to make friends with a PC user for a day or so! Thanks for watching 👍

@@mikesphotography I actually just finished watching your other way and it worked for me! My big problem is for some reason my iMac with Big Sur still won't read the video files even after the camera update and reformatting the SD card. I thought maybe my camera just needed updated but it still won't work, but your videos really helped me troubleshoot to find out that it wasn't the camera update causing my issue.
Ah ok. That sounds really frustrating. What setting do you have the video files on? In your menu tab2, file format? Also what happens when you click on the video files? Does it show a thumbnail? In my SD card I normally copy the video files from source...in the folder path: private, M4root, clip. In there I copy the MP4 files to my backup drive. You probably have tried this already but just letting you know just in case you haven't.
@@mikesphotography I normally do MP4 but it won't even read the video files nor can I transfer anything once I have it on there, but while trouble shooting just now I got it to work in the weirdest way possible. That is weird...but great to hear you've got it sorted!...sounds like the codec reader might have had a bit of an issue and was reset once you logged out and in again...🤔
This procedure is crazy and wildly, unnecessarily complex. On Canon, Pentax and others, you download the firmware file to your SD card, put the card in the camera, and click "update." Olympus requires an updater program on the computer, but it's still much much easier than Sony. You would think that an electronics company like Sony could engineer a user-friendly process, but no. I've also heard stories about a6600 version 1.1 introducing new errors. I'm going to skip 1.1 and won't apply future updates unless they promise fixes to problems that I actually have.
You're completely right Scott. I miss my canon camera for this reason alone. So much easier doing it via SD card and a simple file. I think the Sony engineers are pc people ... and the firmware update seems to be an afterthought...
@@mikesphotography I like my Sony cameras, I guess, but my feeling is that Canon, Nikon, Olympus (and others) are designed by photographers, while Sonys are designed by electronics people. Can't put my finger on the difference, just an overall feeling from long use of many cameras.
So I have another way for you to try that may work for you and your computer: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html This seems to work for everything but the new M1 chipset. I hope it helps. 👍
Currently on Ventura 13.3.1 and it's impossible to do! I wish Sony went the Canon way and let us install an update via the SD Card. It's a one click install!
It is annoying isn't it. You can also use parallels to do it as well, I show you how in this video: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html With the a7iv, they are now doing updates through the SD card. Even though with the pre 2022 cameras, this won't be an option, if you ever upgrade this will be the way to do it in the future. Like you said, I just wish they had done it that way from the start, like with Canon. Thanks for watching and I hope you get it sorted 👍
I know what you mean, Canon have a file you put straight on the SD card and it upgrades on startup, and apparently the pro Sony cinecameras do a similar thing ... so it is not totally alien to Sony ... I wish they would get rid of this way and rejoin the rest of the tech that is out there...🙈
Big Sur users, watch this to get it working: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html

Awesome! It's all about finding that illusive pc!! Great to hear you got it sorted in the end 😁👍

Same. Sony should be ashamed of itself. It's like children are making their software.

Excellent! The a7rii is still a fantastic camera even though it's in its senior years! 😁👍
It's a far cry from other manufacturers as well, Fuji, Panasonic. This is absurd you have to go through this for a firmware update.
Thank you SO much! I was getting frustrated with the process until this video. I had totally missed the driver loader part!!
Great to hear it helped! 😁👍
Thanks for letting us know William! 😁👍
Cheers.

Interesting. Is that an emulator for the windows operating system?
@@mikesphotography parallels allows you to run both a windows and OS concurrently.. windows running in a virtual machine. it seemed the easiest way to do it for this temporary need rather than partitioning the hard drive for a separate instance of windows at boot up. Hope it's of some use, I certainly get enough guidance from RUclips its nice to give back occasionally !!
That's great Luke.
I did think of setting up a dual operating system but I've only ever tried it with a partition...a virtual machine sounds like a much better way to do it. 👍

👍
@@mikesphotography thanks so much I really appreciate your thorough response
THanks for making the video. I've been trying like crazy to get this to work and no luck. it just keeps telling me to replug my usb

Hello! I have a Sony A6000 (ver 3.20 it looks like) and I took some videos and pictures from this morning and now am trying to watch them on my Mac. The pictures show up but the videos are no where to be found...even trying to look in every folder. However, they still show up on my actual camera. Any thoughts?
Hi Cole,
That is a good question and they aren't easy to find.

Good question Alison ... I haven't upgraded my OS yet so I'm not sure ... the only way to find out is to try it for yourself. If this way doesn't work, I have another way to do it as well: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t
I hope that helps.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
thx mike, works like a charm with my a6600, but, only with the Sony battery ;)
Interesting that it was sensitive to the 3rd party batteries. Great to hear you got it to work.
Thanks for watching. 😁👍
Brilliant Mike been struggling with this
Fantastic to hear you got it working....I'd been putting it off for months until I found this patch.
Thanks for watching. 😁👍
thank you for making it easy and by the numbers
I'm glad I could help. 😁👍
Great video but unfortunately I can't get it to work on my A7R4. I've tried for hours, now, including your method. I'm on Big Sur which could be the problem.
Hi Joel,
I think that's the problem.
@@mikesphotography Agreed and thanks for the ridiculously perfect video. You covered all the bases in a clear way and I subscribed. Hopefully I'll have a fix soon as I'm still stuck on Version 1.00
Thanks so much Joel! Hopefully they will give us an updated version of the software soon. Thanks for subbing and welcome to the community! 😁👍
Hi Joel, if you haven't been successful yet, there is another way and I just uploaded a walk through tutorial on it. Check it out when you get the chance: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html 👍
Sony A7iii with Ver.2.0 of course trying to go to Ver.4.0
Even tried various cables.... the camera always mounts on the desktop.
Maybe I will take my camera to a camera shop and see if they can do it. Makes me feel helpless as I work on gear and app issues a lot and rarely have this kind of problem. Any ideas???
It is so frustrating isn't it.
I did another vide recently using a different technique: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
Try this out and see if that works. 👍
@@mikesphotography I am in the same boat... I will try the different link... hope it helps
os Catalina.Try it 20+ times and nothing :( Still doesn't work. I finally make it on Windows. But still thanks for helping!
It's so annoying isn't it. It is such a glitchy clunky program...you can tell the technicians are PC users and not Mac fans!
Next time you have to do it, try parallels on your mac, I did a video on that last week: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t
Great to hear you finally got it done though. 👍
...or get overwhelmed and forget about it.
Pecos Hank ... My favourite youtuber!! Love your work dude!!! 👊
Sony firmware updates are always alot of hassle for a subtle difference.
P.s. looking forward to the Ballard of Pecos Hank. 👌
Struggling to update from my M1 Laptop. Have tried now about 10 times. Camera get's recognized from the Laptop and says "Mass Storage", is fully charged, with on original battery, Laptop is also connected to power. What am I missing?
It keeps saying that it can't do an update but gives no reason to why. Only suggests changing the battery.
My laptop went to sleep during and now my camera is bricked (a6000). Do I have any options for resolving this? Or will have to send it to Sony to fix?
Thank YOU! I think my camera model is a7r3A as well. so that's why it keeps saying there is no connection.
i tried it for hours, the last step the mac just can't find my camera what should i do. pls help
Hello I am not able to get my a7iii to work when I try to update the firm ware. Seems as if the program shuts down during the process.
It can be really frustrating with this patch.
I made another vide recently using a Windows emulator on your mac...try this way: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
thank you very much!!!!
this tutorial is the best for me !
Great to hear it has helped!!
What OS do you have on your mac and what camera did you upgrade the firmware on?
Thanks for watching 😁👍
I've gone through this whole process until I wanted to shave my head and I can't get my computer to recognize the camera. I'm on a Mac Pro, Big Sur 11.5, with a Sony a 6000. I just need to use it as a webcam. Any updated methods you can share?
Hi Kate,
It is so frustrating isn't it! I have done another video on this process: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t
In that one I show you how to install parallels which runs a windows emulator where you can easily update your firmware...either that or make friends with a PC user for a day and use their computer.
Thanks for watching 👍
Same. So frustrating with a A7Riv
Sony a6000 is not working. Also connection to iphone is not working. I never had problems like this with Canon. ALL Firmware updates were ALWAYS working....Best greetings to Sony - this is ridiculous!
But the Video is very good so thank you anyway Mike!
Hi Nesshin, if you haven't been successful yet, there is another way and I just uploaded a walk through tutorial on it. Check it out when you get the chance: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html 👍
I have Catalina OS and I keep getting, “the camera is connected to the computer. Remove the camera from the computer.” I unplug it and try again, and hit next and then it closes itself. Or sometimes it tells me I need to install the driver that’s already installed. I’ve tried uninstalling it and reinstalling.
It's annoying isn't it... Try this way of updating the firmware instead: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
I hope that helps. 👍
Do you have any sigma lenses ? I’m having an issue updating my sigma 24-70 2.8 on my Sony a7iii
if it still doesn't work for anybody, try factory resetting your camera, it worked after that
That's interesting...hopefully it'll help a few people. Thanks for sharing. 😁👍
I'm running Mojave and don't see a "resources" folder within the update software, please help!
I found another way to update as well: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
It's very different and no need for the patch.
I hope that helps. 👍
I couldn’t update my sonya7r3. It keep showing “ couldn’t find the camera for this update”. Please give me some suggestions.
A few poepl have had this problem and it ends up being the cable...so if you have any other multiport cables, try those.
You could also try using parallels to update it...this uses a windows emulator and seems to work more than not: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
I hope that helps. 👍
Great video, it really worked! Thanks!
Great to hear!! 😁👍
Very helpful thanks for making this video
No worries Danny, I'm glad it has helped. 😁👍
Hi, I’m staying in South Africa and every time I try logging or registering or even downloading something on my camera I keep getting the message that it’s not available in my region
Hi I have the Sony Ilce-7RM3A what is the latest version?
Just use Windows its soooooooo much easier. After messing around with my very expensive macbook pro, i gave up, downloaded it on windows laptop (borrow one if u need to), connected camera via USB and bam!!! Updating!
Most definitely the best way to do it!! 👍
Having an issue now with the A7S III. Just wanted to update it, but the "SystemSoftwareUpdater" just crashes :(
It is so frustrating isn't it. There is another way to try it using parallels ... I have a video on that process as well. ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html&t
I wish they would go down the route of just having to put a file on the sd card and letting the camera do the rest like with Canon.
I hope you get it sorted Rob.
At around 6:00 minutes it stopps working.
It says: “You need to install Sony camera driver”
What to do next? Thanks in advance!
If you're having problems with the patch, try this other way: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
I hope that helps. 👍
Would if I’m using Big Sur SIR????? Will it work
I don't think people have been having any luck with big Sur...it might be worth making friends with a PC user to upgrade...
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Danny, if you haven't been successful yet, there is another way and I just uploaded a walk through tutorial on it. Check it out when you get the chance: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html 👍
Thank you so much for this! Still didn't work for me. I am never buying a Sony camera again.
There is one more way to try: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
I did this one recently and it has worked for some people.
It is annoying isn't it...I wish apple and Sony would grow up and start getting on and working with eachother...🤦🏻♂️
I logged out of my apple ID account on my computer and now it reads perfectly. Thank you so much for your help!
That is weird...but great to hear you've got it sorted!...sounds like the codec reader might have had a bit of an issue and was reset once you logged out and in again...🤔
Thank so much, from México.
And thanks for watching Pablo! 😁👍
I couldn't, for the life of me, get it to work. The A7S3 firmware updater just crashes once I connect my camera and press Next.
So I have another way for you to try that may work for you and your computer: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
This seems to work for everything but the new M1 chipset.
I hope it helps. 👍
Thank you very much for this video.
No worries, I hope it helps. 😁👍
Currently on Ventura 13.3.1 and it's impossible to do! I wish Sony went the Canon way and let us install an update via the SD Card. It's a one click install!
It is annoying isn't it. You can also use parallels to do it as well, I show you how in this video: ruclips.net/video/mbEVx0gxcog/видео.html
With the a7iv, they are now doing updates through the SD card. Even though with the pre 2022 cameras, this won't be an option, if you ever upgrade this will be the way to do it in the future.
Like you said, I just wish they had done it that way from the start, like with Canon.
Thanks for watching and I hope you get it sorted 👍
why is Fuji's process much simpler than this? I upgraded the firmware in 10 minutes. This is a headache
