F-35A Joint Strike Fighter jets in action at RAAF Williamtown

- With approximately thirty F-35A Lightning II jets already based at RAAF Williamtown the noise levels have ramped up with the far from quiet F-35s on operations or training. Add in the F/A-18A/B hornet numbers diminishing the F-35A front line fighter jets will be a familar sight and sound in Newcastle NSW for many years.

That "double trouble" at 2:27 is spectacular! I love seeing our air force making these long-slandered and mistrusted aircraft their own. It's reassuring they'll not only know the bugs but know the work-arounds as well, when the time comes for war.
Nice to see our Aussie cousins flying the F35!
Great video. I remember standing on the roof of my house to watch a Mustang, Sabre and Mirage fly over Melbourne when the Mirage first arrived. I attended Avalon in 1984 at the roll out ceremony of the first Auatralian assembed Hornet. I can't wait to see my first Lightning.
A great story and a great moment for you with the Stang, Sabre and Mirage flyover. Thankfully you didn't fall off the roof John! Fingers crossed for a soon to be sighting of the F-35 with that ridiculous level of decibels.
I was at the Williamstown Airshow when the then new F18 Hornet was put in a side by side drag race with the Dassault Mirage Fighter they were replacing. I remember to this day, seeing the Mirage lifting off at the end of the runway. By that time the F18 had gone vertical and was out of sight. What a WOW historical moment. Daylight second, as they say.
I will never get over the goosebumps when I here these planes, absolutely wonderful
Can’t miss these puppies taking off, one hell of a racket. Got off a domestic flight at Williamtown right before what seemed a dozen or so taking off in succession into the east. Pretty cool sight at night. 😎
Beautiful footage. Keep the great work coming.
Cheers for that! Fingers crossed that travel, air shows and aviation action return back to normal in the near future.
these jets are extremely loud producing about 43'000lbs of thrust full afterburner man these jets will be really loud for sure
Nigel, absolutely brilliant!
I’d love too see some of the stills! Framing quality I imagine!
I saw the first to arrive at Williamtown...I definitely had camera lens envy!😂🤣
Thanks for watching Chris and for positive comments. Great that you got to see the first F-35's arrive in Aus !
So stoked for my Australian Cuzn's....Way to go Aussie's....Semper Fi!
Cheers mate, can not wait see one up close.Hello from Darwin
Great to see the real thing Nigel and love your weather!Well filmed as ever.
Is f35a the only version you have over there.?
Yes John only the 'A' version so no 'B' or 'C' models down under.
Great video
Great shots Nigel 👍👍👍
Thanks! 🙂
Looking good Nigel :)
Great footage! What camera were you using?
Great video!
Beautiful man! There's nothing like an F35 in AB!
Wow!! Fabulous!!
Great footage. I was not very fond of them at first, but they have grown on me. Glad that we are getting a few for the Belgian air force as well!
I agree BB with no early love for the 35's but gradual respect in time.
I think I may have actually been here this day, these aircraft are generally amazing
Great you got there Mathew on any day as many days have good action and operations. Enjoy your next visit there! Cheers Nigel
Very beautiful 😁😱
Good good
In the hands of an Aussie pilot ,their unbeatable .China has a big navy ,BUT SHIPS ARE EASY TO SINK .
Man we need more power 😂😆 come on man give me two engines 😏
Super Hornet:
Powerplant: 2 × General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofans, 13,000 lbf (58 kN) thrust each dry, 22,000 lbf (98 kN) with afterburner
Thrust/weight: 0.93
Max takeoff weight: 66,000 lb (29,937 kg)
F-35A:
Powerplant: 1 × Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 afterburning turbofan, 28,000 lbf (120 kN) thrust dry, 43,000 lbf (190 kN) with afterburner
Thrust/weight: 0.87 at gross weight (1.07 at loaded weight with 50% internal fuel)
Max takeoff weight: 70,000 lb (31,751 kg)
If the thrust to weight ratio is greater than one and the drag is small, the aircraft can accelerate straight up like a rocket.
Good enough for what it needs.
I love this aircraft and I just don't know why.
Because its becoming an all round fantastic awesome deadly aircraft ⚡⚡
new toy for the boys
I don't mind ads but stopping me from watching something will not be good
Lets see the ccp do some flybys now
세계겨접우로 여닉 하시면더 좆ㅅ으5. ㄷ😊
I never really liked the F35. no doubt it is a great aircraft, but I think Australia could have done better.
"fighter jet" what a childish expression. As opposed to what; a "fighter propeller"? Why not just say "fighter aircraft"? Everyone knows we have had only jets since the mid-50s.
The ugliest fighter ever designed.
