  • @MFEGoingDeep one place I’ve been wanting to check out was the Narrows at Sebec Lake. Which I’ve come to find is a very busy spot during the summer months with boat traffic moving from area to area on the Lake. A busy summer day was going to be difficult for me to have the drone out searching below while trying to stay out of the way of boaters above so decided to head across the lake at daybreak to have a look around before too many folks were out and about. Besides the gorgeous sunrise I got to enjoy I had a fun morning exploring around!
Looked to be an abundance of bait from smelts both jack and regular sized, to sculpins, to what I think was a 9 spine stickleback. I don’t recall ever seeing one but looking at pictures it seems to be what it was. Grabbed some cool old bottles as I like to do, some being over 100 years old!
One other interesting story here that peaked my interest was back in the late 40’s, there was a steamship “Ellsie” that caught on fire, burned and sank in this area while towing a logging boom bag down the lake. You’ll notice a few minutes in the video where I see what looks like a bunch of blackened or burned wood or some kind of material scattered about with a couple big piles and I’m wondering if that is part of the debris left behind by that steamship. I obviously don’t know for sure but based on another steamship I viewed in Moosehead Lake that was burned and scuttled there it looked extremely similar and likely would be less remaining here as more of the ship would’ve had time to burn before sinking. Certainly makes me wonder! If anyone out there has found other remains of that ship or knows more about it please don’t hesitate to reach out would love to hear about it!
If you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet I would greatly appreciate your support and as always thanks for watching! 👍🐟

Absolutely mesmerizing, and fascinating! So cool to be able to pick up 50 to 100+ year old bottles intact from the bottom of a lake!

I really like collecting them! It’s cool to see what’s down there in different places but also to bring something up which can for the most part be dated and has been there for years and years. Always makes me wonder the story behind it too, when it went to the bottom of the lake and what was happening in the world at the time.

I was thinking next time I have a look around that area and if I happen to come across them again I’d try to grab them if I could. Just be cool to see how old they were.

I wonder what all the white patches along the lake bottom is. I know there aren't any shellfish other than freshwater clams in Maine, so I'm wondering if they're bacteria? Anyways, great video and I'm glad you found a bunch of cool bottles! ❤

Thanks! 😊 was glad I found some too, fun to find them and grab them since normally can figure out when they were made and kind of guess how long they’ve been there. Some quite a long time! I noticed the white stuff too, it was on some of the bottles. Was almost like fur, it wiped right off. I figured it was some kind of algae build up but could have been bacterial. Definitely cleaned everything up well after!

One common theme in many of these videos is the amount of sedimentation on the lake floors. I wonder if this has always been the case or just in the last few decades. Great, clear videos, by the way.

Thanks! Hard for me to say whether it would be normal accumulation or not, each place seems to vary but I do notice places in this lake where it really clouds up if I hover close to bottom for too long!
